Dear customer, thank you for purchasing our produkt. Please read the operating instructions carefully before putting the appliance into operation and keep the instructions including the war-ranty, the receipt and, if possible, the box with the internal packing.

General Safety Instructions

  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance.Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Children younger than 8 years must be kept out of reach of the appliance and its power cord.

  • Before replacing accessories or accessible parts, which move during operation, before assembly and disassembly, before cleaning or maintenance, turn off the appliance and disconnect it from the mains by pulling the power cord from the power socket!

  • Do not leave the appliance plugged in power supply without supervision!

  • Check the power supply cord for damage from time to time! If the power cord of the appliance is corrupted, it has to be replaced by the manufacturer, its service technician or a similarly qualified person so as to prevent dangerous situations.

  • Never use the appliance if its power cord or plug is damaged, if it does not work properly, if it fell down and was damaged and it is leaking. In this case take the appliance to a special service to check its safety and proper function.

  • When the appliance is in operation, prevent pets, plants or insects to get in contact with it.

  •  Use only designated accessories enclosed.

  • After finishing work and before cleaning, always switch off the appliance and disconnect it from power supply by taking the power cord connector out of the electric socket.

  • The product is intended for home use and similar (in shops, offices and similar workplaces, in hotels, motels and other residential environments, in facilities providing accommodation with breakfast). It is not intended for commercial use!

  • Keep it away from sources of heat, direct sunlight, humidity (never dip it into any liquid) and sharp edges. Do not use the appliance with wet hands. If the appliance is humid or wet, unplug it immediately. Do not put it in water.

  • When cleaning or putting it away, switch off the appliance and always pull out the plug from the socket (pull on the plug, not the cable) if the appliance is not being used and remove the attached accessories.

  • Do not operate the machine without supervision. If you should leave the workplace, always switch the machine off or remove the plug from the socket (pull the plug itself, not the lead).

  • To protect children from the dangers posed by electrical appliances, make sure that the cable is hanging low and that children do not have access to the appliance.

  • Check the appliance and the cable for damage on a regular basis. Do not use the appliance if it is damaged.

  • Do not try to repair the appliance on your own. Always contact an authorized technician.
    Use only original spare parts.

  • Pay careful attention to the following “Special Safety Instructions …“.

Special safety instructions for this unit

  • Operate the appliance only in accordance with the specifications on the rating plate.
  • Before using your Food Dehydrator for the first time, the unit must be run in for 30 minutes. Please do not place any food for drying during this period. After the running in period, please clean and rinse the unit according to the instructions indicated in the following section „Cleaning and maintenance“.
  • Use well away from walls and curtains. Avoid using metal surfaces, e.g. sink.
  • Never leave an appliance unattended when in use.
  •  Do not use an appliance for other than its intended use.
  • Do not place an appliance on or near a hot gas flame, electric element or in a heated oven.
  • Do not place on top of any other appliance.
  • Do not let the power cord of an appliance hang over the edge of a bench top or touch any hot surface.
  • Never cover the appliance with towels or similar objects. A covered appliance is a fire risk.
  • Switch the appliance to ‘O’ or “OFF ‘before disconnecting the plug.
  • Do not carry the appliance when hot.
  • Use original accessory parts only.

Features of your food dehydrator

  1. Lid with Drying Motor
    Acts as a lid for the Food Dehydrator and contains the motor and ON/OFF switch. Air vents on the lid allow air to be circulated.

  2. Drying Racks
    Hold the food in place for easy drying. Each rack holds for exaple, approximately 3 sliced apples. Your unit includes 5 Drying Racks.

  3. Enclosed Base
    The base can be used for making fruit rolls, drying herbs and potpourri.

  4. Rubber Feet

  5. Holds the Food Dehydrator in place and prevents it from scratching the bench top.

  6. On/Off Switch
    Enables the Drying Motor to be switched on and off.

Instructions for Use

When using for the first time, allow the appliance to run empty for 30 minutes. Then rinse the trays – never the appliance – with water and dry them with a cloth. Your appliance is now ready to use!(You need only do this the first time you use the appliance).

  • Temperature Setting
    The 2-setting control is used to set the right temperature for the produce to be dehydrated . Select setting 1 for produce with a low water content such as herbs, mushrooms, spinach, onions etc., and setting 2, for produce with a high water content e.g. pears, citrus, etc. Do not afraid to experi-ment a bit. You will soon have a clear idea of which setting is best for your particular produce.
    Arrange the food on the Drying Racks, ensuring the pieces of food are not quite touching, to allow air to circulate freely. Place Drying Racks onto the Base. To use unit efficiently, use only the num-ber of racks needed.Place the lid with drying motor on the top Drying Rack. Plug the power cord into a power outlet corresponding to the voltage marked on the underside of the unit, and turn the power on.

Instroduction to drying techniques

  • how it works
    Dehydrating food is an efficient way of preserving food. Using a controlled heat temperature, air is circulated from the top of the unit to each of the five tray and base to removes moisture from food. This method of drying seals in the flavours and nutrient and vitamin content.

  • Storage of dried food
    Drying fresh, ripe fruit and vegetables allows you to enjoy these luxuries all year round. You can now consume your choice of Summer fruits in the middle of Winter. Storing of food is easy and takes up little storage space. Dried food has a long shelf life in air tight storage jars.

  • No preservatives added
    Fruit and vegetables dried using your Food Dehydrator, will be different in appearance from tho-se sold in Health Food Stores and Supermarkets. This is due to your Food Dehydrator uses no preservatives, no artificial colouring, and only natural additives.

  • Versatility
    You can dry herbs and spices and flowers to make potpourri. You can even enjoy the advantages of rehydrating foods to make instant additions to soup, sauces, casserole and baby food.

  • healthy snacks
    Natural healthy snacks, for picnics, camping and snack time, can easily be created using your Food Dehydrator. A variety of fruit rolls such as pear, berry and apple rolls. You can make tasty, low calorie muesli bar, using all natural ingredients.

  • hand hints
    Use Quality Food (if available). Best results are achieved when quality food is used. Select pro-duce at the peak of ripeness and flavour, for the highest nutritional content. You can dry overripe produce if desired, as long as you remove all the poor areas.

  • Wash Food
    Food should be washes thoroughly, removing soft or spoiled area. Be certain that your hands, cutting utensils and food preparation area are clean.

  • Pre-treatment
    Pre-treatment makes food look better, taste better, dry faster, stop ripening process, and increases the shelf life. Some methods are listed as follow:

    • Natural pre-treatment: For drying fruits, lemon juice and pineapple juice may be used to prevent browning.
    • Blanching: Some fruits or vegetables, with natural protective wax coating, may need to be blanched to speed the drying process.
    • Steam Blanching: Some vegetables with a long cooking time require steam blanching.
  • Food Uniformly
    Produce can be shredded, sliced or diced. 5 mm (1/4”) slices are best for efficient drying.

  • how long will it take?
    As a general rule, dehydrating times will vary depending on what is to be dehydrated, how big and how thick the pieces are, their water content, how much you place in the individual trays, on the temperature and The humidity of the air in the room where appliance is used. To find out whether fruits are properly dry, allow a few pieces to cool off. They should bend easily, without breaking. Or cut a piece: no water droplets should form on the cut surfaces. Adequately dehydrated vegetables and herbs feel ^hard“, they should break when bent.

  • Testing for Dryness
    Be sure to let the produce cool before testing for dryness, cut a piece open – there should be no visible moisture inside.

  • Uneven Drying
    If you notice uneven drying, rotate the drying racks, i.e. move the bottom rack up and the top racks down.

  • Keep Records
    Records of humidity, weight of produce before and after drying times, will be helpful in improving your drying techniques for the future.

STORAGE OF DRIED FOODS

  • Glass containers that can be sealed airtight and cloth bags are ideal for staring dehydrated foods. The produce must be allowed to cool off completely before storage. A long storage life is only ensured if the produce cannot absorb any additional moisture while stored.
  • Important: Check the moisture level of the stored produce. If droplets of moisture form during the first weeks, repeat the dehydrating process.
  • Herbs: Do not pulverize before storing.
  • Crush between your fingers immediately before use – this is the best way to obtain
  • the full flavour over the longest period of time.
  • Mushrooms: Should be stored in airtight sealed jars.

Important
Check for moisture by shaking the content of your storage container several times during the first week after the food has been dried. If moisture appears on the inside, the food has not been sufficiently dried and should be returned to the Food Dehydrator for further drying. Do not place warm produce into storage containers, as condensation will form causing mould and mildew.

Dehydrating dry foods

  • Rehydration is the process of putting the moisture back into food that have been dried.
  • Rehydrated fruit and vegetables can be used in a variety of dishes. They can be used in sauces, cakes, soups, casseroles and even for making baby food. For example, dried vegetables can be used in making a nutritious and healthy soup.
  • Dried foods can be partially rehydrated by soaking in water or cooking. (Food will taste and resemble their fresh counterparts after reconstitution).
  • One cup of dried vegetables generally reconstitutes to two cups of vegetables.
  • Once cup f dried fruit reconstitutes to one and a half cups of fruit.

DRYING FRUITS

Preparation

  • Wash fruit and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Remove any blemishes, pips and stones.
  •  Slice as recommended.
  • Pre-treat if desired.

Pre-Treatment
Pre-treatment makes food look better and increase the shelf life.

  • Natural Pre-Treatment Recipes

    • Use pineapple or lemon juice to prevent browning. Soak fruit for 2-3 minutes in the juice, before drying.
    • Fruit may also be sprinkled with honey, brown sugar, cinnamon or coconut to give an interesting dried flavour.
  • Blanching
    Soak fruits with natural protective wax coating, e.g. figs, grapes and prunes, need to be blanched to speed the drying process.

  • To Blanch

    • Soak fruits in boiling water for 1-2 minutes.
    •  Plunge into ice cold water.
    • Slice and commence drying.
  • Dryness Test
    Cool fruit before testing for the final degree of dryness. Most fruit will be soft and pliable when properly dried.

DRYING VEGETABLES

Preparation

  • Wash vegetables thoroughly and remove blemishes.
  • Pre-treat if desired.

Pre-Treatment
Steam Blanching: Vegetables with a long cooking time require steam blanching.

  • To Steam Blanch
    •  Bring saucepan of water to the boil.
    • Place vegetables in a colander in the saucepan and cover.
    • Steam for 1-5 minutes
    • Cool in ice water, drain and pat vegetables dry.
    • Commence drying.
  • To Blanch
    • Soak vegetables in boiling water for 1-2 minutes.
    • Plunge into ice cold water.
    • Slice and commence drying.
  • Dryness Test
    • Cool vegetables before attempting the final test for dryness.
    • Vegetables should feel hard and firm with no soft spots.
  • Fruit and Vegetables Rolls
    Chewy Rolls are dried, rolled sheets of plain or sweetened pureed fruit and vegetables.

Preparation Directions

  • Line the Base with a piece of plastic wrap.
  • Puree fresh or canned fruit to a consistency that can be spread with a¨ spatula, over the Base of the Food Dehydrator.
  • Spread the puree over the base, to a maximum thickness of 5mm.
  • Chewy Rolls are ready when the centres are no longer sticky to touch.
  • Remove the fruit while it is still warm to prevent sticking.
  • Roll tightly ad slice into desired portions.

DRYING HERBS AND SPICES

  • Pick leaves, when young and tender.
  • Pick seed pods before they open.
  • Most herbs and spices can be dried on the plant stalk or stem. The leaves and seeds are easily stripped off once they are dry.
  • Do not store herbs in paper bags as the oils will be absorbed by the paper leading to less flavour.

DRYING MEAT AND FISH

Meat

  1. Trim excess fat from meat and slice into strips.
  2. Marinate meat for 6-8 hours.
  3. Dry meat in an uninterrupted drying cycle for 8-10 hours.

Fish

  1. Fish must be fresh, when drying.
  2. Clean and fillet fish.
  3. Sprinkle fish with lemon juice and soak in a solution of 1/2 cup salt and 2 litres of water. Soak for half an hour.
  4. Drain and dry for 8-10 hours.
  5. Fish is ready when it is dry and bendable.

Drying Flowers

Preparation Directions.

  1. Cut flowers when they are dry and cool.
  2. Choose flowers that are firm but only half open. Full bloom flowers tend to loose their petals.
  3. Position flowers and petals sparsely on the Drying Racks and Base.
  4.  Dry for 8-10 hours until flower are brittle.

To make Potpourri
Place dried flowers, blossoms, and petals in a large air tight glass container with 3-4 drops of perfumed oil, to enliven the fragrance. After a month, shake the petals or sprinkle more oil into the container.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Do not immerse the Lid with Drying Motor in water. To clean, use a damp, soft sponge with a mild detergent. To clean the Drying Racks and the Base, soak in warm soapy water. A soft bristle brush can be used to loosen stubborn food particles. Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners. In addition, do not place any parts in a dishwasher.

Troubleshooting

The device is not working

  • Check that the mains connection cable is firmly plugged in.
  • Check the positions of the switches.
