Thank you for choosing an Etac product.
To avoid accidents and injury when moving and handling the products, please read this manual carefully.
The person described as “the user” in this “Instruction for Use” is the person who is lying or sitting on the product. The carers are the people who maneuver the product.
This symbol appears alongside the text in the manual. It draws the reader’s attention to points at which there may be a risk to the health and safety of the user or carer.

These products comply with the standards applicable for Class 1 products in the Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on medical devices.

The information is given in this manual, including recommendations, combinations, and sizing does not apply to special orders and modifications. If the customer makes adjustments, repairs, or uses combinations not predetermined by Etac, the Etac CE certification and Etac warranty will not be valid. If in doubt, please contact Etac.
Warranty: Two-year warranty on material and manufacturing defects, provided that the product is used correctly.
Expected lifetime: The device has an expected service life of 1 to 2 years under normal use. The service life of the device varies depending on usage frequency, loads and how often, and how it is washed.

In case of an adverse event occurred in relation to the device, incidents should be reported to your local dealer and the national competent authority in a timely manner. The local dealer will forward information to the manufacturer.

Intended use

The E-Board Oval can be used to transfer users from bed to bed, wheel-chair to bed, bath/commode, car seat, etc., and vice versa. E-Board Oval can also be used to assist placement of a lifting sling both in bed or in a seated position.

Intended use

E-Board Oval S is used for moving back in a chair, small repositioning, or application of a sling.
E-Board Oval L is used for transfers between beds, repositioning, applicating a sling in bed, or sitting in a chair.

Positioning + use

Positioning – moving back in the chair:
E-Board Oval S is used in pairs. Place the boards under the user’s legs. Make the user move the weight from the leg/thigh where you want to place the E-board Oval, and slide the board under the seat.
(illustration 1) Repeat under the other leg.
Alternative place the board from behind – let the user lean forward and place the E-Board Oval S under the seating bones.

Use:
Independent users can by leaning forward push or shuffle themselves backward in the chair into a correct and comfortable position.
(Illustration 2) Partly Independent users can lean a bit forward and the carer can push against the user’s knees. Remove the boards after repositioning. Rotate the boards to the side and pull slowly away from the user.

Positioning – assessment/application of sling leg straps:
E-Board Oval S is used in pairs to place the boards under the user’s legs. Make the user move the weight from the leg/thigh where you want to place the E-board Oval, and slide the board under the thigh.

Use:
Place the leg strap between the 2 boards. (Illustration 3) Remove the boards and repeat under the other leg.
Remove the board between the leg and the sling before lifting.

In to bed:
If the user is sitting on the edge of the bed, place the E-board Oval S under the thigh. Make the user move the weight from the leg/thigh where you want to place the E-board  Oval, and slide the board under the seat. Repeat under the other leg. (Illustration 4)
Use:
Independent users can by leaning forward push or shuffle themselves backward in the bed.
Partly Independent users can lean a bit forward and the carer can push against the user’s knees.
To turn the user into a bed, remove the board that is not the center of turning. Let the user use the low friction surface on the board to rotate, and remove the board when the user is lying in bed by pulling the handle.
Repositioning:
Place the E-Boards Oval S under the pressure point.
Use:
Let the independent user slide on the boards.
Positioning – moving bed to bed:
Tilt the user slightly to the side and place the 2 boards under the pressure points – shoulder and back and hips and upper tights. If a sheet/drawsheet is used, it is a good idea to  position E-Board Oval underneath the sheet. Press the E-Board Oval down in the mattress and push–adjust the E-Board Oval so they are placed under the pressure points.
Use:
By applying a little pressure to the shoulder and hip, the assistant moves the weight of the user on the boards. The other assistant can now slowly pull the user to the other bed. If needed one or two carers can support the head and feet. If using a sheet, the assistant can pull in the sheet and move the user to the other bed. (Illustration 5) E-board Oval can easily be removed by tilting the user slightly and pulling the boards out. The 2 horizontal surfaces must be closed together, make sure the wheels are locked.
Applicate a sling horizontal positioning:
Applicate the 2 boards under the shoulders and upper back of the user. Press the E-Board Oval down in the mattress and push under the lower back rotate the board under the shoulder. Repeat on the other side – adjust the E-Board Oval so they are placed under the pressure points.

Alternative placed the pair of E-Board Oval L on top of each other,  Press the E-Board Oval down in the mattress and push under the lower back so they are just visible on the  other side of the user’s lower back. Rotate the boards under the shoulders.
Use:
Raise the head end approx. 30 degrees.
Pull the sling from the head end under the 2 boards and slide it in the right positioning. Remove the boards and apply the leg straps under the user’s leg. (illustration 6)
Alternative: Pull the sling from the head end between the 2 boards and slide it in the right positioning. Remove the board close to the user and apply the leg straps under the  user’s leg.
Applicate a sling sitting positioning:
Applicate the pair E-Board Oval L between the user and the back of the chair/wheelchair – either from the head and push down or from the side and rotate. (Illustrate 7)
Use:
Place the sling between the 2 boards and slide it in the right positioning. (illustration 8) Remove the board close to the user and apply the leg straps under the user’s leg.
Repositioning:
Place the E-Boards Oval L under the pressure point.
Use:
Let the user slide on the board either alone or with guidance or help from a carer.

Tips

Immedia Clove can be used together with the boards to make an easy application.
Immedia CloverFoot can be placed under the user’s feet to reduce friction under the thighs.
Immedia SatinSheet pillowcase is a useful accessory to use when the user is moved from one bed to another.

Notice

Special features

Always check the product before use and after washing.
Never use a defective product. If the product shows signs of wear-and-tear, it must be scrapped.
Read these instructions carefully.
It is important that carers receive instruction in manual handling. Etac offers advice and training for carers.

Encourage the user to assist where possible.
To ensure that the user feels safe and that every manual handling is smooth, always plan the manual handling in advance.

There is a risk that the user may slide off. Never leave the user alone on the edge of the bed.
Never leave the product on the floor.
Maximum 10 cm gap between 2 horizontal surfaces.
Always conduct a risk assessment, and ensure that the assistive product can be used for the individual user and, in combination with other devices, that it is safe for the user and carers.
Never use the product under wet conditions as the underside of the board may become slippery in contact with water.
Remember to apply brakes to lock bed and wheelchair.
Make sure that skin not will be pinched between the 2 boards.
Remove the board/boards before lifting
Remove the boards after use

if applicating a sling in a wheelchair with high friction surface it is an advantage to use 1 or 2 MultiGlide to applicate the E-Board Oval L.

Material and cleaning

Material:
Polyethylene.
The product should be checked regularly, preferably each time it is used.
Never try to repair a product yourself.
Never use a defective product.

Washing instructions:
E-Board Oval can be wiped with soapy water or disinfectant.
This product can be cleaned with a solvent-free cleaning agent with a pH level between 5 and 9, or a 70% disinfection solution.

Service information

Inspection

First inspection:

  • Is the packaging intact?

  • Read the label on the packaging and check the article no. and product description

  • Check that Short Instruction is enclosed – updated User Manual/Instruction for use can be downloaded from www.etac.com or contact your Etac
    Customer Service or the local dealer.

  • Check the label on the product – does it include article no., product description, lot/batch no., cleaning instructions, and supplier name?

Periodic Inspection:

  • Make sure that your Manual transfer system always is in perfect condition.
  • After washing – always check materials, stitching, handles, and buckles.
  • If the product shows signs of wear and tear, it must be removed from service immediately.

Visual inspection/Check the product:
Ensure that the materials, seams, stitching, handles, and buckles are intact/faultless.

Mechanical load or stress/Test handles:
Draw hard in the handles in opposite directions and control the material, seams, and stitching. Test buckles:
Lock the buckle and draw in opposite directions, control the buckle and the stitching.

Stability test:
Try to bend the product to verify that it feels firm, stable, and solid.

Test low/high friction:
Place the product on a firm surface or a bed, place your hands on the material and test the friction by pushing your hands down into the product.
Low friction – slides effortlessly
High friction – no sliding/moving
