Setup

Warning!

Be aware of overhead power lines. Never set up under electrical wires or where your antenna can fall over into possible hazards. Always set up far enough from operators and bystanders that an antenna cannot fall over and strike anyone. Make sure that your set up complies with FCC RF exposure requirements.

Connect the feed-line coax to the SO 239 connector on the bottom of the hub. You may prefer to do this after the legs have been attached to the hub and the hub has been anchored to the ground. Slide the legs onto the 3 tabs on the hub. Insert the leg retention pins into the holes on the legs and leg tabs as shown in fi gure 1. Place the tripod on the ground where you want your antenna located. Refer to the warning above. If you haven’t already connected the feed line, do it now with caution. Be mindful of the pins protruding from the tabs to avoid injury. Next, insert the anchor stakes thru the holes in the yellow leg end and force them into the ground. The stakes prevent tipping of the antenna or the legs from coming off of the hub due to wind.

Now you are ready to thread an antenna or loading coil into the 3/8-24 female connector on the top of the hub. Do not use tools to tighten the antenna or coil. Finger tight is all that is needed. Using too much torque risks things pulling apart at the wrong place during disassembly. There are 9 “D” shaped holes around the outside of the hub. Thease are for connecting the counterpoise of your set up using alligator style clips. The counterpoise can be a metal window screen, Faraday cloth, random length radials, or tuned radials.
