Installation Instructions

Before You Begin
Before starting, familiarize yourself with the site plans and installation specifics. Check the site plans to confirm the location of the stormwater catch basin before you begin excavating. If no site plans are available, determine and sketch the exact positions of the inlet line, stormwater catch basin, and outlet line. Provide measurements and distances on the sketch as accurately as possible.

Step 1.

Prepare for Installation
  • Step 1a: In areas where freezing is a concern, remove the cap and filter from the basin and drill four 1/8in (3mm) holes into the basin, 90° apart from one another, 1/2in (13mm) up from the bottom of the basin. Then replace the cap and filter.
  • Step 1b: Overexcavate the hole to 6in (150mm) deeper than the basin height and 6in (150mm) wider than the basin diameter.
  • Step 1c: Make sure the basin has 3in (75mm) clearance around it when placed in the hole.

Step 2.

Lay and Compact Bed

Place and compact a 6in (150mm) bed of ≤3⁄4in (9mm) aggregate or pea gravel in the hole.

Step 3.

Install Stormwater Catch Basin
  • Step 3a: Place the stormwater catch basin in the hole.
  • Step 3b: Use PVC cement to glue the inlet pipe to the basin inlet and to glue the outlet pipe to the basin outlet, according to the flow arrows on the basin.

Step 4.

Backfill Installation
  • Step 4a: Backfill around the unit with 6in (150mm) lifts of material.
NOTE: Do not use native material as backfill if it is primarily sand or very soft or highly expansive clay, or if it contains debris, large rocks (>3/4in or 19mm), sharp rocks, peat, or muck. In these cases, use ≤3/4in (19mm) rounded gravel, crushed stone, or pea gravel as fill material. Verify that the material is washed, free-flowing, and free of debris. Do not backfill with sand.

  • Step 4b: For basins over 36in (914mm) tall, remove the cap and filter after every 6in (150mm) lift to ensure that the sides of the basin do not compress and prevent the cap from fitting or prevent removal of the screen.
NOTE: If shortening the top of the stormwater catch basin, maintain a minimum of 4in (100mm) between the top of the inlet and the top of the basin.

All product and performance assertions are based on proper design, installation, operation, and maintenance according to Orenco’s current published documentation.
