Guide to Evaporative Air Coolers
The performance of evaporative systems deteriorates as the humidity increases.
Consequently, evaporative systems are not suitable for highly humid regions.
They are generally suitable for areas with dry summers, although their
effectiveness will be reduced during the occasional periods of humid weather
that these areas can experience.
Evaporative air Coolers not only cool but also humidify homes. This is why
they will not do you much good if you live in a climate that is already very
humid.
Evaporative cooling is not suitable in areas that have both a high temperature
and a high moisture content simultaneously.
Evaporative coolers suit only dry climates where humidity is low. If you live
in a very humid place, your evaporative cooler may not work as effectively as
it does in dry areas.
Using an evaporative air cooler in a humid area causes only a small amount of
water to evaporate, so the cooling ability may be poor. Also, higher humidity
level speeds up corrosion, which in turn causes the parts of the air cooler to
deteriorate.
If you live in a region where the summers are hot and dry, a portable
evaporative cooler can be a cheap and effective way to keep you cool over
those long sunny days. However, if you live in a humid area, they will not be
the most effective option.
Because evaporative coolers need a constant source of hot dry air to work
effectively, you need to leave a door or window open and position the unit
near it.
The open door or window also helps keep down the overall humidity in the room.
The more humid the room, the less effective the cooler.

Preparation
-
Before using the cooler, a few checks need to be made first as follows:
-
Make sure that the cooler unit is unplugged from the PowerPoint.
-
Ensure the rear Mesh Filter (with Evap Paper attached) is fitted correctly to the rear of the cooler as shown.
-
In the bottom of the water tank is a Rubber Drain Plug. This plug must be in place and fitted correctly to prevent water from leaking out onto your floor.
-
To open the water tank, rotate the Water Tank Lock Anticlockwise 90°.
-
Grasp the handle in the lower front of the water tank and pull it out.
Note: The water tank cannot be pulled out fully. This is to prevent accidental water spillage. -
The Rubber Drain Plug is located as shown below.
- Ensure this rubber plug is pushed all the way down into the drain hole before adding water.
- Ensure the cooler is standing on a flat and level surface and in the position the cooler will be operated from, then water can be added.
CAUTION: Moving the cooler when the water has been added, especially to the Maximum level mark, may cause water to spill over and onto your floor.
If you need to move the cooler, switch it off and unplug the cooler, and ensure that the water level is at least only ¾ full or less to reduce the chance of spilling water.
- Fill the water tank with fresh clean cold water until the level has reached the Maximum mark on the rear of the Water Tank. DO NOT OVERFILL.
- Ice blocks can also be added which will help cool the water/air. Add Ice first and then fill with water.
- Do Not Fill with any liquid other than clean cold water. Do Not add any additives to the water.
- Gently push the water tank back in to avoid spilling and rotate the Water Tank Lock to secure the Water Tank.
- When the water tank has been pushed in and secured, the water level can now be monitored from the front of the cooler by means of the water indication window.
Note: The front window is just an indication of water being in the tank and is not a true level indicator. Refer to the markings on the Water Tank for actual levels.
- When the water has been used up, the water pump will turn off, and the Indicator light above the “Cool” button with blink with three beeps.
- Refill the water tank when the water level reaches the “Min” level mark, or when the indicator light blinks or turns off the “Cool” function.
Refer to the instruction under the heading “Cool” for the operation of this function.
4.1 Wheels
The cooler has four castor wheels for ease of moving the cooler around.
When the cooler has been located in the desired operating position, it is
advised to lock the castor wheels to prevent the unit from moving.
To do this, press the levers down, which are located on the front of the
castor wheel.
To unlock, lift the lever up.
4.2 Louvers
The Horizontal louvers need to be manually adjusted to your desired position.
Grasp the tab on the middle louver and move up or down to the position that
you require.
Note: the Vertical louvers which are located behind the front horizontal louvers will automatically swing back and forward if you select the “Swing” function. Refer to the instructions under the heading “Swing” for further information.
Controls
5.1 Evaporative Cooler
5.2 Remote Control
Note: 2 x AAA batteries are not included.
The Cooler comes with remote control for your convenience.
The functions of the remote control are the same as the buttons on the
evaporative cooler.
To install the batteries, first, remove the back of the remote control by
sliding the back battery cover off.
Insert the batteries inside the battery compartment matching polarity icons
with those in the battery compartment and then refit the cover securely.
Battery Type: “1.5V 2 x AAA”
Battery Type: “1.5V 2 x AAA”
Do Not mix new and old batteries or batteries of different types (e.g.,
Alkaline with Non-Alkaline) in the remote control.
To prevent corrosion, remove the batteries if the remote control will not be
used over a lengthy period.
The Remote Control can be stored at the top of the control panel as shown.
Point the Remote Control at the control panel as this is the location of the
receiver, then press your desired button.
Operation
Important: Refer to the Section “Preparation” prior to Operation.
Note: This cooler has a “Memory”.
The Memory function will remember the settings last used when the evaporative
cooler is turned Off with the On/Off button and will re-use the same settings
(excluding the Cool function) when it is switched on again providing the
cooler is not unplugged in-between uses.
NOTE: Memory function is not available for Sleep mode and Timer Function.
6.1 ON/OFF
- Insert the power plug into a power point and switch on. A short “Beep” will be heard.
- Press the “ON/OFF” button on the control panel (or remote control). The unit will start in the default “Low” Speed as indicated by the indicator light and Normal Mode.
Note: If the “Cool” function was used prior to turning off after the last use, the Cool function will not turn back on with memory. This is to prevent damage to the water pump should there be no water in the water tank.
6.2 Wind Modes
Press the “Mode” button to select between, “Normal”, “Natural” and “Sleep” fan
wind patterns.
a. NOR: The Normal Default Mode is set by default when the unit is first
turned on. The wind remains a constant flow.

b. SLP: The “Sleep” mode (No Mode Light) creates wind patterns that are the
same as the Natural Mode wind patterns, however, when the fan is set to either
Medium or High Speed, the pattern will drop a speed level after approximately
30 minutes.
For Example: If the High-Speed Fan and the Sleep Mode are selected, this will
be the same wind pattern as the High-Speed setting in Natural Mode. However,
after approximately 30 minutes, the wind pattern will automatically drop down
to the same wind pattern as if Natural Mode was selected at Medium fan speed.
After approximately a further 30 minutes, the wind pattern will automatically
drop down to the same wind pattern as if Natural Mode was selected at low fan
speed.
The fan will continue to run in the Low-Speed Natural Mode until manually
turned off.
Note: To have the fan automatically turn off at your desired time in this
mode, use the “Timer” function to select the auto-off timer.
c. NAT: The “Natural” variable speed wind mode automatically selects one of
three variable speed wind speed patterns. Each Pattern produces a different
wind pattern depending on the Speed Setting Selected.
These Wind Patterns simulate the variable speed wind that you would experience
outdoors.

-
Without the “Cool” function switched on, allow the unit to run for 1 – 2 hours without water so as to dry it quicker.
More time may be required depending on how humid the ambient air is. -
Coil the power cord loosely and place next to the unit.
-
Remove the Batteries from the Remote Control.
-
When the appliance is totally dry, refit the water drain plug (if removed) and store the cooler in a dry well-ventilated area.
