- Remove the blade guard covers (Item 25a). Warning! Take care not to injure yourself on the cutting blade.
Important! Vibrations when using the cutting blade
If considerable vibrations of an unusual nature arise when using the cutting
line after you have fi tted the cutting blade, this is because the cutting
blade is not fi tted in central position. Switch off the tool immediately.
Remove the battery/batteries
and refi t the cutting blade.
Caution! A cutting blade that is not fi tted in central position will cause damage to the tool!
Removing the cutting blade

- Remove the chain wheel cover.
- Lay the saw chain (Item 18) in the groove which runs around the cutter rail (Item 19).
- Insert the cutter rail (Item 19) and the saw chain (Item 18) into the mount of the pole-mounted pruner. At the same time guide the saw chain around the chain wheel (Item 14b) and hook the cutter rail into the chain tensioning bolt (Item 14c).
- Fit the chain wheel cover and tighten the fastening screw hand tight.
Note: Do not fully tighten the fastening screw until after you have adjusted the chain tension (see section 5.3.3).
Tensioning the saw chain (Fig. 20-21 22)
- Slacken the fastening screw for the chain wheel cover slightly (use the size 13 multi-function tool).
- Adjust the tension of the saw chain by using the multifunction tool 4mm (Item 22) to turn the chain tensioning screw (Item 14d). Turning the screw clockwise increases the chain tension, and turning it counter-clockwise decreases the chain tension. The saw chain is correctly tensioned if it can be lifted approx. 2 mm in the middle of the cutter rail.
- Tighten the fastening screw for the chain wheel cover (use the size 13 multifunction tool).
Danger! All the chain links must lie properly in the guide groove of the rail.
Notes on tensioning the chain:
The saw chain must be properly tensioned to en-sure safe operation. When the
saw chain can be raised by around 2 mm in the middle of the cutter rail, you
know that the chain tension is ideal (Fig. 21). During cutting, the
temperature of the saw chain rises and its length changes. It is important
therefore to check the chain tension at least every 10 minutes and to adjust
it again as required. This applies in particular to new saw chains. When you
have finished working, slacken the saw chain again as it will shorten when it
cools down. This will help to prevent damage to the chain.
Saw chain lubrication
Important! (Fig. 22) Never operate the chain if it is not lubricated with saw
chain oil! Use of the pole-mounted pruner without saw chain oil or with the
oil level below the „min“ mark will result in damage to the cordless pole-
mounted pruner.
Important! Be aware of the temperature conditions:
Different lubricants with completely diff event viscosities are required at
different ambient temperatures. At lower temperatures you will need low-
viscosity oils in order to achieve sufficient lubricating fi lm. However, if
the same low viscosity oil is used during the summer it will become even
thinner due to the ambient temperatures alone, and as a result, the
lubricating fi lm could break down, causing the chain to overheat and become
damaged. In addition, the chain oil would burn and produce unnecessary
pollutants.
Filling the oil tank (Fig. 22)
Warning! Fill in the oil outdoors and do not smoke while fi lling.
- Place the pole-mounted pruner on an even surface.
- Clean the area around the oil tank lid (Item 10) and remove the lid.
- Fill the tank (Item 10a) with saw chain oil. In the process, make sure that no dirt enters the tank, as this could cause the oil nozzle to become blocked.
- Screw the oil tank lid (Item 10) back on again.
The pole-mounted pruner will be ready for use after you have screwed it to the motor unit (see section 5.2.6).
Assembly/adjustments of the hedge trimmer
Assembly
The hedge trimmer is ready for use once the connecting tube has been converted
(see section 5.3.1) and it has been screwed to the motor unit (see section
5.2.6).
Adjusting the housing tilt (Fig. 23)
Press the lock-off button (Item 15a) and adjust the tilt of the housing to any
of 7 latching positions.
Fitting the battery (Fig. 24a-24b)
Push the battery into the battery mount provided (Item 1). The battery will be
heard to click into place when it has been pushed fully in. To remove the
battery, press the push lock button (Item N) and pull out the battery.
Notice!
Never combine batteries with different capacities (Ah).
Use only batteries which are charged to the same level. Never combine full and half-full batteries. Always charge the two batteries simultaneously. The equipment‘s operating time depends on the battery with the lower charge level. The two batte-ries must always be fully charged before use.
Charging the battery (Fig. 25)
- Take the battery pack out of the tool. Do this by pressing the pushlock button.
- Check that your mains voltage is the same as that marked on the rating plate of the battery charger. Insert the power plug of the charger into the socket outlet. The green LED will then begin to fl ash.
- Insert the battery into the charger.
- In the section entitled „Charger indicator“ you will find a table with an explanation of the LED indicator on the charger.
The battery can become a little warm during the charging. This is normal.
If the battery pack fails to charge, check:
- whether there is voltage at the socket outlet
- whether there is good contact at the charging contacts
If the battery pack still fails to charge, send
- the charger
- and the battery pack to our customer service center.
To ensure that items are properly packaged and delivered when you send them to
us, please contact our customer service or the point of sale at which the
equipment was purchased.
When shipping or disposing of batteries and cordless tools, always ensure that
they are packed individually in plastic bags to prevent short circuits and fi
res.
To ensure that the battery pack provides long service, you should take care to
recharge it promptly. You must recharge the battery pack when you notice that
the performance of the device drops. Never allow the battery pack to become
fully discharged. This will cause it to develop a defect.
Battery charge level indicator (Fig. 26)
Press the battery charge level indicator button (Item M). The battery
charge level indicator (Item L) shows the charge status of the battery using 3
LEDs.
LEDs are lit
The battery is fully charged.
LED (s) are lit
The battery has an adequate remaining charge.
- LED fl ashes:
The battery is empty, recharge the battery.
All LEDs blink:
The battery temperature is too low. Remove the battery from the equipment,
keep it at room temperature for one day. If the fault reoccurs, this means
that the rechargeable battery has undergone exhaustive discharge and is
defective. Remove the battery from the equipment. Never use or charge a
defective battery.
Operation
Please note that the statutory regulations governing noise abatement may diff er from one location to another.
General information
Putting on the harness (Fig. 27-28)
Important! Always use the harness when you work with the tool. Switch off the
tool before you take off the harness. Otherwise there is a risk of injury.
- Slip the harness (Item 17) over your shoulder.
- Adjust the length of the harness so that the harness holder is at waist level.
- . The harness is equipped with a buckle. Press the hooks together if you need to put down the tool quickly.
Switching On/Off Switching on (Fig. 29)
- Hold the tool firmly with one hand on the handle (Item 4) and the other hand on the steady grip (Item 16).
- Press the switch lock (Item 3) and then press the On/ Off switch (Item 2).
Switching off (Fig. 29)
Let go of the On/Off switch (Item 2).
Using for work
Danger! Work only with a fully assembled tool. When you want to carry out work
on the tool itself, always wear protective gloves and use the supplied blade
covers to protect yourself against injury.
Each time before use you must check that:
- the safety devices and the cutting device are in perfect condition and complete;
- all screws are securely fastened
- all moving parts move smoothly.
- Never use a tool which is obviously damaged.
Working with the cordless trimmer/scythe Practice all the work steps with the
motor switched off and without the rechargeable battery before you start to use
the tool. Use the cutting
line only to mow dry grass. If the grass is long, the grass must be cut
shorter in stages (Fig. 30).
Extending the cutting line (Fig. 31)
Danger! Do not use metal wire or plastic-en-cased metal wire in the line
spool. This may cause serious injuries to the user.
The grass trimmer has a semi-automatic line extension system (automatic jog
line feed). Each time you activate the semi-automatic line extension system,
the line is automatically extended to ensure that you can cut your lawn with
the perfect cutting width at all times. To extend the cutting line, run the
motor and tap the line spool on the ground. This will automatically extend the
line. The blade on the guard hood will cut the line to the permissible length.
Please note that the more often you activate the semi-automatic line extension
system, the more the line will wear.
Note: If the line is too long when you use the tool for the fi first time, the
surplus end of it will be cut by the blade on the guard hood. If the line is
too short when you start the tool for the fi rst time, press the knob on the
line spool and pull the line hard. When you then start the tool for the fi rst
time the line will be cut to the perfect length automatically.
Using a brush or similar, carefully remove all residual grass from the
underside of the guard hood at regular intervals.
Different cutting methods
When the tool is correctly assembled it will cut
weeds and long grass in places that are diffi cult to access, e.g. along fences,
walls and foundations, and also around trees. It can also be used for „mowing“
down vegetation so that a garden can be better prepared or a certain area
cleared down to the soil.
Please note: Even if it is used carefully, cutting around foundations, stone
or concrete walls, etc.
will result in the line suffering more than normal wear.
Trimming/mowing
Swing the trimmer from side to side in a scything motion. Always keep the line
spool parallel to the ground. Check the site and decide which cutting height
you require. Guide and hold the line spool at the required height to obtain an
even cut (Fig. 32).
Low trimming
Hold the trimmer right in front of you at a slight angle so that the underside
of the line spool is above the ground and the line strikes the correct target.
Always cut away from yourself. Never draw the trimmer towards yourself.
Cutting along fences/foundations
Approach wire mesh fences, lath fences, natural stone walls and foundations
slowly so that you can cut close to them without striking the obstacle with
the line. If, for example, the line strikes stones, stone walls or
foundations, it will wear or fray. If the line strikes wire fencing, it will
break.
Trimming around trees
When trimming around tree trunks, approach slowly so that the line does not
strike the bark. Walk around the tree, cutting from left to right. Approach
grass or weeds with the tip of the line and tilt the line spool forward
slightly.
Warning: Take extreme care during mowing work. When doing such work keep a
distance of 30 meters between yourself and other people or animals.
Mowing
When mowing down to the ground you will cut all the vegetation. To do this,
set the line spool at an angle of 30° to the right. Place the handle in the
required position. Remember the increased risk of injury to the user, watchers
and animals, and the danger of damaging property due to objects (for example
stones) being catapulted into the surroundings (Fig. 33).
Warning : Do not use the tool to remove objects from footpaths, etc.
The tool is powerful and can throw small stones and other objects a distance
of 15 meters or more, causing injuries and damage to cars, houses and windows.
Sawing
The tool is not suitable for sawing. Jamming
If the cutting blade jams as a result of attempting to cut vegetation that is
too dense, switch off the engine immediately. Remove the grass and scrub from
the tool before you restart it.
Preventing recoil
When you work with the blade, there is a risk of recoil if it strikes solid
objects such as tree trunks, branches, tree stumps, stones or the like. This
will throw the tool backward in the direction opposite to the rotation of the
tool. This can cause you to lose control of the tool. Do not use the blade
near fences, metal posts, boundary stones or foundations. For cutting dense
stalks, position the blade as shown in Fig. 34 to prevent recoil.
Working with the pole-mounted pruner
Preparations
To ensure that you can work safely, check the following points before every
use:
Condition of the cordless pole-mounted pruner
Before you start your work, check the cordless pole-mounted pruner for damage
to the housing, the saw chain and the cutter rail. Never use a tool which is
obviously damaged.
Oil container
Check the oil level in the oil container. Both be-fore and during your work
make sure that thereis always sufficient oil in the system. To avoid damaging
the cordless pole-mounted pruner, never
run the saw if there is no oil in the system or if the oil level drops below
the „min“ mark. On average, a single filling will last for 15 minutes depending
on the number of pauses in cutting and the loads involved.
Saw chain
Check the tension of the saw chain and the condition of the cutting elements.
The sharper the saw chain, the easier and more controllable it is to operate
the cordless pole-mounted pruner. The same applies to the chain tension. For
greater safety you must check the chain tension at least every 10 minutes
during your work. New saw chains in particular tend to expand more.
Safety Clothing
Always wear appropriate tight-fitting safety clothing such as special cut-
resistant trousers, protective gloves and safety shoes.
Hearing protection and protective goggles Wear a protective helmet with
integral face and hearing protection. This will off er protection against
falling branches and recoiling branches.
Safe working
- To ensure that you can work in safety you must use the tool at a working angle of max. 60°.
- Never stand under the branch you want to saw.
- Use special caution when working with branches under tension and with splintering wood.
- Possible risk of injury from falling branches and pieces of wood catapulted into the surroundings!
- When the tool is in operation, keep other persons and animals away from the danger zone.
- The tool is not protected from electric shock through contact with high-voltage cables. Keep a minimum distance of 10 m from live cables. Electric shock can cause fatal injury.
- When working on slopes always stand to the upper or left or right side of the branch you want to cut.
- Hold the tool as close as possible to your body. This will help you to keep your balance.
Cutting techniques
- When removing branches, hold the tool at an angle of max. 60° to the horizontal to avoid being hit by a falling branch (Fig. 35).
- Start with the bottom branches on the tree. This will make it easier for the cut branches to drop.
- After completing a cut, the weight of the saw will abruptly increase for the operator as the saw is no longer supported by the branch. This can result in you losing control over the saw.
- Remove the saw from the cut only with the saw chain still running. This will prevent the saw from getting jammed.
- Never cut with the tip of the saw.
- Never cut into the bulging branch collar. This will prevent the tree from healing.
Sawing off smaller branches (Fig. 36)
Place the contact surface of the saw onto the branch. This will prevent the
saw from making jerky movements when you begin a cut. Exerting slight
pressure, guide the saw from the top to the bottom through the branch.
Sawing off large and long branches (Fig. 37)
Carry out a relief cut when working on large branches.
Start by sawing through 1/3 of the branch diameter (a) from the top to the
bottom with the top side of the cutter rail. Then saw towards the first cut (b)
from the top to the bottom with the bottom side of the cutter rail.
Saw long branches in several steps to keep control over the impact location.
Kickback
The term „kickback“ describes what happens when the running pole-mounted
pruner suddenly kicks upward and backward. Usually this is caused by contact
between the tip of the rail and the workpiece or by the saw chain becoming
trapped.
In the event of kickback, large forces occur suddenly and violently. As a
result, the cordless pole-mounted pruner usually reacts uncontrollably. This
can often result in very serious injuries to the worker or persons in the
vicinity. The risk of kick-back is at its greatest when the saw is positioned
for a cut in the region of the tip of the cutter rail, as
the leverage eff ect is greatest there. It is therefore safest to position the
saw as fl at as possible.
Warning!
- Make sure that the chain tension is always correctly adjusted.
- Only use a cordless pole-mounted pruner that is in perfect working order.
- Only work with a saw chain that has been properly sharpened in accordance with the instructions.
- Never cut with the upper edge or the tip of the rail.
- Always hold the cordless pole-mounted pruner firmly with both hands.
Cutting wood which is under tension Special care is required when cutting wood which is under tension. Cutting wood which is under tension can release the tension, causing the wood to react out of control. In the worst case this can result in severe and even fatal injuries. This type of work must be performed only by specially trained persons.
Working with the cordless hedge trimmer
- Check that the blades work properly. With their twin cutting edges, the blades rotate in opposite directions, thus guaranteeing a high cutting performance and smooth operation.
Take care to maintain a steady foothold and hold the tool firmly in both hands away from your body. Before you switch on, make sure that the tool is not touching any objects.
Work practice
- A hedge trimmer can be used to cut shrubs and bushes as well as hedges.
- To obtain the best cutting results, hold the hedge trimmer so that the cutter teeth are at an angle of approx. 15° in relation to the hedge (see Fig. 38).
- The blades with their twin cutting edges rota-te in opposite directions to enable cutting in both directions (see Fig. 39).
- It is recommended to tie a guideline of string or the like along the hedge so that you cut the hedge to a level height. Cut off all branches which protrude beyond the guideline (see Fig. 40/41).
- Cut the sides of the hedge with curve-shaped movements from the bottom up (see Fig. 42).
Cleaning, maintenance and ordering spare parts
Danger!
Remove the battery pack before doing any cleaning or maintenance work.
General information on cleaning
- Regularly clean the tensioning mechanism by blowing it out with compressed air or cleaning it with a brush. Do not use any tools for cleaning.
- Keep the handles free of oil so that you can maintain a firm grip.
- Never immerse the tool in water or other liquids in order to clean it.
- Use a brush to remove deposits from the safety guards.
- Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the tool with a clean cloth or blow it down with compressed air at low pressure.
We recommend cleaning the tool immediately each time after use.
Clean the tool regularly with a damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or
solvents; these may be aggressive to the tool’s plastic parts. Ensure that no
water can get inside the tool. The ingress of water into an electric tool
increases the risk of an electric shock.
General information on maintenance
There are no other parts inside the tool which require maintenance.
To keep the tool in good working order, carry out regular maintenance in
accordance with the following instructions. Use only the accessories and spare
parts approved by the manufacturer, Details can be found in section 8.6
“Ordering spa-re parts”. The use of non-approved accessories or spare parts
can result in very serious injuries.

- ook approx. 15 cm of the end of the line into one of the line holders on the edge of the spool.
- Thread the end of the line from the new line spool through the eyelet (Item K) in the spool cover. Insert the pressure spring (Item L) in the line spool.
- Pull sharply on the end of the line to release it from the line holder.
- Press the spool cover back into the line spool housing.
The next time you re-start the tool, the cutting line will be cut
automatically to the optimum length.
Important! Bits of the nylon line that are catapulted out into the
surroundings could cause injuries!
Sharpening the cutting line blade (Fig. 9)
The cutting line blade (Item 23c) can become blunt over time. When you notice
this, undo the screws holding the cutting line blade on the guard hood. Clamp
the blade in a vise. Sharpen the blade with a fl at fi le and make sure that the
angle of the cutting edge is not altered in the process. File in one direction
only.
Maintenance of the pole-mounted pruner
Use only saw chains and cutter rails approved by the manufacturer. These are
listed in section 4
“Technical data” or are available as accessories (see section 8.6 “Ordering
spare parts”). The use of spare parts which are not approved by the
manufacturer could result in very serious injuries.
Replacing the saw chain and cutter rail
The cutter rail needs to be replaced if the guide groove of the cutter rail is
worn. Proceed as described in the section “Cutter rail and saw chain”.
Checking the automatic chain lubrication You should check the operation of the
automatic chain lubrication system on a regular basis in order to guard
against overheating and the damage this can cause to the cutter rail and the
saw chain. Point the tip of the cutter rail at a smooth surface (a board or a
cut tree face) and allow the pole-mounted pruner to run. If you see a growing
oil stain on the smooth surface, the automatic chain
lubrication system is working properly. If no clear oil trace is evident then
please refer to the corresponding instructions in the “Troubleshooting guide”!
If the information contained there still fails to remedy the situation, please
contact our service de-partment or another similarly qualifi ed workshop.
Danger! Do not actually touch the surface. Keep a safe distance (approx. 20
cm).
Sharpening the saw chain
Working eff ectively with the cordless pole-moun-ted pruner is only possible if
the saw chain is in
good condition and sharp. This also reduces the risk of kickback. The saw
chain can be re-shared by any dealer. Do not attempt to sharpen the saw chain
yourself unless you have the necessary tools and the necessary experience.
Maintenance of the hedge trimmer
(Fig. 47)
The blades should be cleaned and lubricated at regular intervals in order to
ensure best performance at all times. Remove deposits with a brush and apply a
thin fi lm of oil.
