AIM OF THE GAME: The aim is to reach exactly 50 points by knocking over the pins. The first player to achieve this wins the game.
THROWING ORDER: The starting order for the first game can be decided by a draw. The order for the next games is determined by the results of the previous game (the player with the least points starts).
SCOREKEEPER: Players take turns acting as scorekeeper. A player may also become the scorekeeper if he/she fails to earn any points after three throws.
STARTING THE GAME: The numbered pins are arranged in a tight formation 3-4 m away from the throwing line. The first player throws the stick.
TOPPLED PIN: A pin is not considered to be toppled if it is at all resting on another pin or on the stick. After the throw, pins that have been knocked down are placed upright where they fell.
THROW SCORES: If one pin is knocked down, the player gets the number of points shown on the pin. For example, if pin number 6 is toppled, the player gets 6 points. If more than one pin is toppled, the score is the number of pins toppled. For example, if pins number 6 and 10 are toppled, the player gets 2 points. The maximum score from one throw is therefore 12.
ENDING THE GAME: The game ends when the first player reaches exactly 50 points. If a player’s score goes over 50, the score drops back down to 25 points. If a player fails to score any points after three throws, he/she must leave the game and act as scorekeeper.
ALTERNATIVE GAMES
- The players all start with 70 points and the aim is to get down to zero, following the same rules as above. So the score from each throw is deducted from the player’s number of points at that time. If the score falls below zero, it returns to 50.
- The points earned from a throw can be the sum of all the numbers on the pins toppled, regardless of how many pins are toppled. For example, if pins number 6 and 1 are toppled, the player gets 16 points. This way, players earn more points more quickly but also have to be more strategic about which pins they try to knock down.
