Parts included
- 1 Speedo/Indicator Lights Relocation Bracket
- 4 Bolts
- 2 Star Washers
- 1 Flat Washer
- 1 Self-Locking Nut
- 1 Rubber thread protector
- 2 Spacers (9/16” & 1”)
- 3 Zip Ties
Installation Steps
FIRST-Remove the main fuse, or disconnect the battery.
- Remove 2 screws from the back of the speedometer
- Remove the speedometer back-plate and bottom rubber gasket
- Unplug the electrical connector from the main speedometer unit
- Unscrew the reset button outer rubber cover and remove the back plate from the wiring
- Push the main speedometer unit out the top of the bracket, and make sure you get the top rubber gasket also.
- Remove indicator lights from the bracket by removing 2 screws on the underside of the bracket. (you may need to remove the bracket from the top clamp in order to reach the two screws securing the indicator lights, depending on what model you have)
- Be careful, there are 3 components of the Indicator Lights:
- Top plastic cover
- Bottom unit with lights and wires
- Thin color strip
- Remove nut from front tank bolt (that goes through the frame)
- Install Speedo/Lights bracket onto tank bolt, with a star washer on either side of the new bracket. Use included self-locking nut. (do not tighten all the way yet) At this point you can decide how far out you want the relocation bracket to sit from the frame. If you have a DK Custom Tank Lift, you can put the bracket on the Inside OR the outside of the lower tank lift mount. You can also use any combination of the included Spacers to adjust how far out you want the bracket to sit. Use whichever length included bolt is needed for the configuration you choose. You can always change it later, should you decide you want the Speedo further in or out from the frame.
- Feed the Indicator Lights Unit and wires (and speedo wires) down to new location. You may need to remove one of the headlight brow bolts in order to move the brow to the side a little to have enough room to fit the Indicator Light Unit through.
- Install Indicator Lights into a new bracket. Remember the thin color strip.
- Insert the main speedometer unit and top rubber gasket into the new bracket.
- Plug the electrical connector into the main speedometer unit.
- Making sure wires are in the new bracket cutout, slide the bottom rubber gasket into place.
- Replace back plate, holding the reset button in its place on the bottom of the main speedometer unit.
- Reinstall the back-plate screws and reset the button rubber cover.
- At this, you can decide which angle you want the Speedometer at and tighten the tank bolt all the way down. Install a rubber thread protector onto the end of the bolt.
- Make final adjustments to how you want the wires routed (making sure they do not pinch when turning the handlebars all the way in each direction) and use the zip ties to secure wires as desired.
- Re-install the headlight brow bolt.
- If your stock Speedometer Bracket is integrated into the Top Handlebar Clamp, replace it with our Chrome or Black Top Clamp. (this is a separate item)
- Replace Main Fuse OR reconnect the battery and go for a ride!
General Notes:
- The rider’s safety depends on the correct installation of this kit. Please do not attempt if you have any doubts of your ability to install it.
- We recommend blue thread locker be used on all metal-to-metal threads.
- Because the Custom and 48 Models use a different back-plate than all other Sportsters, Sportster Custom and 48 models require the Harley-Davidson speedometer back plate and rubber gasket (back cushioning) HD #67320-95 & 67104-95. These two parts can be purchased from any Harley-Davidson dealership and should cost around $20.00 combined.
