AVIGILON NVR5 Premium 10G Base T Kit

Product Information

The Avigilon NVR5 10G Base-T Kit is an optional kit designed for the NVR5 Premium. This kit provides high-speed Ethernet ports for faster connections to your security network of ACC Servers and Clients. The part number for this kit is NVR5-10GBASET-A2 and it is specifically designed for NVR5 models with a storage capacity of 192TB-224TB.

Confirm Package Contents:
Before starting the installation, ensure that the package contains all the necessary components. The package should include the 10G Base-T card and any other required accessories.

Recommended Tools:
The following tools are not included in the kit package but are required for the installation:

• Phillips #2 screwdriver
• Torx #T30 screwdriver
• Wrist-grounding strap connected to the ground
• ESD Mat

Note: It is recommended to use an antistatic mat and antistatic strap while working on components inside the system to prevent any damage.

Product Usage Instructions:

Step 1: Opening the Cover

1. At the top of the NVR5, unlock the latch release and lift and rotate the latch towards the back of the unit to release the cover. If it’s the first time removing the cover, use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the shipping screws before unlatching the cover.
2. Remove the air shroud by holding it at both ends and lifting it away from the system.

Step 2: Identifying Installation Locations
View the interior of the NVR5 and identify the locations where the components of the kit will be installed. The 10G Base-T card will be installed in Slot 1 of Expansion Riser 1.

Step 3: Installing the 10G Base-T Card

1. Unpack the 10G Base-T card.
2. Remove the pre-installed quad port Ethernet card in Slot 1 of Expansion Riser 1 by pulling the expansion card latch out of its slot.
3. Insert the 10G Base-T card into Slot 1 of Expansion Riser 1, ensuring it is properly seated.
4. After inserting the card, push the expansion card latch closed.

Step 4: Reattaching the Cover
Once all the components of the kit are installed:

1. Ensure all expansion card latches are closed and there are filler covers for all empty slots.
2. Reinstall the top of the cooling shroud.
3. Close and lock the NVR5 cover.
4. If the NVR5 was rack-mounted and removed, remount it into the rack.
5. Reconnect all peripherals and cables.
6. Ensure both power supplies are connected to main power as the upgraded NVR5 requires both power supplies to function properly.
7. Power on the NVR5.

Introduction

Avigilon provides an optional 10G Base-T Kit for the NVR5 Premium. This kit provides you with high-speed Ethernet ports for faster connections to your security network of ACC Servers and Clients.

Confirm Package Contents
Confirm that the kit you are installing contains the following components:

• 1 × 4-port 10G Base-T PCIe card

Recommended Tools
The following tools are not included in the kit package, but are needed to complete the installation:

• Phillips #2 screwdriver

• ESD Mat

Important: It is recommended that you always use an antistatic mat and antistatic strap while working on components inside the system.

Installing the NVR5 10G Base-T Kit

Note: If the NVR5 is an operating part of your security system, be aware that it must be shut down to complete this procedure.

Before starting to install the kit:

1.  Turn off the NVR5, including all attached peripherals. Press the power button on the front panel, and wait for the light to stop blinking to indicate shutdown is complete.
   WARNING — Opening or removing the system cover while the system is powered on may expose you to a risk of electric shock.

2. Disconnect the NVR5 from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.

3. Remove all network, power and peripheral cables from the NVR5.

4. If applicable, remove the NVR5 from the rack.
   Important: Whenever you need to lift the system, get others to assist you. To avoid injury, do not attempt to lift the system by yourself.

Opening the Cover

1. At the top of the NVR5, unlock the latch release then lift and rotate the latch towards the back of the unit. The cover slides back and is released from the body.
   Tip: Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the shipping screws before unlatching the cover if you are removing the cover of an NVR5 for the first time.
   

2. Remove the air shroud by holding it at both ends and lifting it away from the system.
   

3. View the interior of the NVR5 and identify the locations where the components of the kit will be installed.
   The view below shows the details of an NVR5 with all of the covers and cards removed, and important components labeled with numbers.
   The components affected by the NVR5 10G Base-T Kit are:

   • 10—Expansion card riser 1
     
     The 10G Base-T card will be installed here.

Installing the 10G Base-T Card in Slot 1 of Expansion Riser 1

With the NVR5 open:

1. Unpack the 10G Base-T card.

2. Remove the pre-installed quad port Ethernet card in slot 1 of expansion riser 1:

   • Pull the expansion card latch out of its slot.
     Note: The card in this illustration does not match the appearance of the actual card being removed from slot 1.

   • Hold the expansion card by its edges, and pull the card until the card edge connector disengages from the expansion card connector on the riser.

   • Set aside the Ethernet card you removed on an ESD mat.

3. Install the 10G Base-T card in slot 1:

   • Slide the card into the slot guide opposite the connector to align the connector on the card with the connector on the riser.

   • Insert the card edge connector firmly into the expansion card connector until the card is fully seated.
     

   • After the card is installed, push the expansion card latch closed.

Reattaching the Cover

When all the components of the kit have been installed:

1. Ensure all expansion card latches are closed and there are filler covers for all empty slots.

2. Reinstall the top of the cooling shroud.
   

3. Close and lock the NVR5 cover.

4. If the NVR5 was rack mounted and removed to install the kit, remount it into the rack.

5. Reconnect all the peripherals and cables.
   Important: Ensure that both of the power supplies are connected to main power. The upgraded NVR5 requires both power supplies to properly function.

6. Power on the NVR5.

Confirming the Installation

From an ACC Client running on a workstation with a network connection to the ACC site associated with the NVR5:

1. Log in to ACC site.
2. Click in the menu bar and scroll down and click Site Setup.
3. In the Search panel, click to expand the site containing the NVR5 in which the 10G Base-T card is installed.
4.  Navigate to (or search for) the upgraded NVR5 and click
5. Verify that the NVR5 has one additional 10GbE adapter with four ports available:
   • In the System Explorer, select the upgraded NVR5 server.
   • In the New Task menu , click Site Health.
   • c. Under the Network Adapters heading, there should be four new ports installed in PCIe slot 1. These new ports should have a Link Speed of 10Gbps.
