⚠ Read the precautions before your operation
The transmitter and receiver of this device are powered by lithium polymer batteries.
Please do not place the device in a location that is dusty, humid, or hot (above 40°C).
Please do not disassemble the device. Repair and maintenance should be done by a professional staff.
When not using the device for a long time, please remove the battery to prevent the battery liquid from leaking out.
Please do not perform related operations on the communication line during thunderstorms to prevent lightning strikes and personal safety.
Product interface and components
NF-8508 is an Optical wire meter tracer for home and public facility network
cable repair.
Its main functions includes Multi-Function Network Cable Tester (cable faults
testing, cable length measurement, PoE testing, port flash, Crystal head QC
test function) and optical power meter & Visual Fault Locator function. Also
it has two modes for options to track cable like Digital mode &Analog mode,
all these makes it a must-tool for cabling engineers.

Instructions of the Product
1. Alignment
Two kinds of alignment modes: Alignment with the receiver, alignment with the
exchanger, alignment of this machine.
Alignment with the receiver: It can be used to test connection , cross and
short circuit of the network cable.
Alignment with the exchanger: Only test connection situation, and which
indicates in the form of short circuit.
Alignment of the receiver(this machine): Rapid or slow alignment can be
switched.
The following is the example of receiver alignment:
Insert one end of the network cable to alignment interface on right side of
the emitter, and insert the other end to alignment interface of the receiver,
select “alignment with the receiver”, press the button of ” “to start testing.
The test results are as follows:
2. Line Hunting
Two Modes: Digital Mode/ Analog Mode, Customers can use UP/ Down to switch.
Digital Mode: Anti- interference, when tracking cables with load from 1 000M switches, customers were suggested use this mode.
Analog Mode: With little noise, customers were suggested to use this mode when tracking cables without load.
Transmitter: Default set to Digital mode, use UP/Down button to switch between the two modes.
Receiver: If the scan signal indicator stays on, it means the receiver is
in Digital mode;
If the scan signal indicator blinks, it means the receiver is in Analog mode.
3. Port Flash
After connecting the device with the switch, the green dot on the screen will flash at the same frequency as the port indicator on the switch.
4. Cable Length Measurement
Insert one end to the Length port of the device (Keep the other end empty), Choose the right type of the cable (CAT5/ CAT6), Set the unit for the result (Meter/ Yard/ Feet) by pressing” “, then press ” “to measure the cable length (Best range will be 5~200m), the result will be displayed in pin pairs.
- When measuring broken cables, If the broken point is too close to the empty end (less than 3% of the full length), due to technical reason, the device will show the full length of the cable, in that case customers were suggested to measure the length from the other end to locate the broken point.
5. PoE Test Function
6. Pressing Connection Test
This function can be used to inspect whether the crystal joint is well
connected.
The tick means the cable core has been well connected, the error mark means
that the core hasn’t been well connected.
7. Functions of the Optical Power Meter
7.5 Reference value: In case of non-REF mode, Line 3 indicates optical output power value, line 5 not indicates value.
Notes:
- In case of REF mode, Line 5 indicates the reference value, Line 3 indicates the attenuation value.
- dbm is the unit indicating absolute power value.
- dB is a relative number, which indicates increase or reduction of the signal strength.
- In the optical fiber network, the optical power is often measured with dBm as the unit, while, the attenuation, consumption and insertion loss of optical fiber are expressed with dB.
7 .6 Optical power calibration: Factory value/user value can be selected.
Normally, you only need to select factor value, if the test error is large,
you can select user value-user value setting for calibration.
The following uses the 1310 wavelength as an example:
Notes:
-
In Step Five above, be sure to long press the “ OK ” key for 2 seconds.
When ✓ appears, it indicates that the data are confirmed; otherwise, the calibration will to take effect. -
In the aforementioned step six, calibration is done for the 1310 wavelength.
When testing the 1310 wavelength under “User Value Setting” mode, the calibration data takes effect. For calibration in other wavelengths, follow steps three hundred and forty-five as described above. -
If the calibrated value is not used, switch back to the factory-set value according to Step One above.
-
To remove the calibrated value, return to Menu – Setup- Factory Settings.
8. Red Light Function
Emitter:
9. Setting Function
The emitter can set language, backlight brightness, backlight time, and automatic shutdown time etc.
