GETTING STARTED

SETTING UP YOUR LAUNCH MONITOR

  • The launch monitor should be placed on flat ground at the same height as the golf ball.
  • Square Golf gives you ball and club data by capturing images with a high-speed camera and built-in infrared LED lighting.
  • The launch monitor should be set up in a room with little to no sunlight. Additionally, the front of the launch monitor should not directly face sunlight.

BALL PLACEMENT

Center Front-42cm, Right-23cm
Dimension 15cm x 15cm
02 Stick zone Type Area for the virtual shot
Center Front-42cm
Dimension 15cm x 15cm

TARGET ALIGNMENT

  • The default target line for the launch monitor is parallel to the front cover.
  • You can reset the target line using the alignment stick on the back of the launch monitor.
  • When the alignment stick is placed in the `stick zone’, the launch monitor adjusts the target line to match the alignment stick.
  • When you restart the device, the target line resets to default. See the figure below.

01| Default target line| parallel to the line of the front cover of the launch monitor

02| Reset target line| Direction pointed by the alignment stick,

up to +/-5° relative to the default target line

TAKING SHOTS

HITTING A BALL (FROM HITTING ZONE)

To take a shot, place the ball in the `heating zone’ as shown in the figure below. Once the LED illuminates green, you can hit the ball.

  1. Searching ball LED blinking blue
  2. Placing the ball Place the ball in the `heating zone’
  3. Ball-ready LED illuminates green
  4. Perform shot Complete shot when above minimum ball speed
  5. Simulation Data is processing – LED is blue

Minimum ball speed: shot – 3.4mph, putting – 1.1 mph

APPLYING CLUB MARKER

  • If you attach a marker to a golf club, you can measure the club path and attack angle of your swing. The club marker should be attached 20cm from the floor with the club upright as shown in the figure below.

VIRTUAL SHOT USING SWING STICK (FROM STICK ZONE)

  • To take a virtual shot with a swing stick, place the ball in the `stick zone’ as shown in the figure below. Once the LED illuminates green, you can take a virtual shot with the swing stick.
  1. Searching ball LED blinking blue
  2. Placing the ball Place the ball in the `stick zone’
  3. Ball-ready LED blinks green
  4. Shot ready Point the stick to the ball and pause for more than 1 second then the LED illuminants green
  5. Perform shot Complete shot using swing stick
  6. Simulation Data is processing – LED is blue

SETUP AND SWING OF VIRTUAL SHOT

When taking a virtual shot using a swing stick, the shot data is measured and analyzed by the ball’s position in your stance.Square-Golf-SQGHE100A-Launch-
Monitor-FIG-13

  • During setup or downswing, it is considered a completed setup/swing only if the target line of the swing stick is within a certain range (-10cm to +10cm) compared to the position of the golf ball.
  • In the case of a completed shot, the impact data of the shot is calculated by analyzing the path of the swing stick and the angle of the stick head.
  1. Target line
  2. Measure the angle of the head of the swing stick at the impact point to measure the face angle
  3. Measure the 3D path and speed of the swing stick head

SHOT DATA

Further club and ball data is available when using a patterned golf and a club marker is attached to the shaft. In the case of a virtual shot using a swing stick, the simulation is conducted by predicting the flight speed, direction, and spin of the ball by measuring the speed and path of the swing stick and the angle of the stick’s face. The following is a summary of the shot data that can be measured on the launch monitor.

Type of shot Normal shot Virtual shot
Golf ball Marking ball Normal ball
Club marker Use Not use Use
Ball flight Speed
Direction
Backspin
Side spin
Club Path angle

Putting 1.1 ~ 17.9
Direction (°)NOTE -15.0 ~ 15.0
Elevation (°) -10.0 ~ 70.0
Backspin (rpm) -2,000 ~ 12,000
Side spin (rpm) -7,000 ~ 7,000
Club Path angle (°)
Attack angle (°) -30.0 ~ 20.0

The range of the ball flight directions in the table is measured relative to the default target line of the launch monitor.
