CHALLENGES FACED BY INDUSTRY
Industrial customers are facing multiple challenges today: the market dynamics
are changing; the supply chain has been impacted by geopolitical conflicts[1];
and there is shortage of skilled manpower[2] to run the plants.
Meanwhile, customers are saddled with old and aging assets, facing reliability
issues, including unscheduled downtime, and are therefore, not able to achieve
the optimum production, while incurring the additional costs of ever-
increasing compliance and reporting requirements[3].
Industrial customers have reacted by undertaking a Digitalization journey.
On average, the oil and gas industry spent around $25B globally on enterprise
IT projects in 2022[4]. While this has led to siloed[5] applications, which
provide some benefits, the overall value of digitalization benefits has not been
fully captured at the plant or OT level, given that siloed applications may
deliver insights which might contradict each other, thus inhibiting faster and
accurate decision making.
