Product Usage Instructions
Important Notes:
- Ensure all rollers spin freely and independently but are not spaced apart.
- Do not snap both halves of the rollers together until ready to install.
- Installation time can be reduced by partially assembling the rollers on the ground.
Installation Steps:
STEP 1: Confirm the contents of your LG201-1pk kit, including wheels, roller halves, and fasteners.
STEP 2: Check the diameter of the line/conductor where Line Guard will be installed.
STEP 4: If using the standard fastener option, position the L-Bracket at one end and secure with cable ties and/or hose clamps. For LG 201-1pk-HLC, use C-Clamps.
STEP 5: Snap two roller halves together, then position over the line/conductor and snap the other side tight. Repeat for all rollers.
STEP 6: Spread apart the wheel to fit over the roller end while assembling the first and last rollers. Secure the split wheel with a cable tie.
STEP 7: Push Line Guard rollers down the line until snug against the fasteners. Secure the final fastener on the other end.
FAQ
- Q: How do I ensure the rollers spin freely?
- A : Make sure all rollers spin independently but are not spaced apart. Do not snap both halves together until installation.
- Q: What if I have leftover snaps on the roller halves?
- A : If you have cut back the roller, leaving fewer snaps, it will not affect the product’s integrity.
- Q: Can Line Guard be installed on energized lines?
- A: Yes, Line Guard can be installed on energized lines using large HLC Clamps provided in the LG 201-1pk-HLC option.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
LINE GUARD INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE : This Line Guard is for overhead conductors of different sizes/voltages. Line Guard is offered with different fasteners to secure the system to your overhead lines. The default option uses a small L-Bracket on each end of the set of rollers secured by either cable ties or hose clamps (or both). The alternative option uses large hotline clamps for installation on energized lines.
Thank you for your purchase of Line Guard, from Critter Guard. Line Guard prevents “critters” from gaining access to critical pole-mounted equipment, roofs, attics, and substations via overhead cables and power lines.
The average installation time is approximately 15 minutes per cable or conductor. Line Guard is designed to provide years of worry-free protection if these installation instructions are followed.
SAFETY PRECAUTION
For overhead power line applications, Critter Guard recommends this product be installed by qualified power line technicians. It is not required to de-power the line. Assure the conductor is properly insulated and not showing signs of wear or degradation. For Substation applications, position one end of the Line Guard approximately 5 feet outside the substation fence. For other installations, position one end of the Line Guard approximately 2 feet from the power pole or vertical structure (i.e., building).
DO NOT TOUCH LIVE TERMINALS.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Make sure all rollers spin freely and independently of each other, but do not leave space between adjacent rollers on the line/conductor.
Rollers will not separate (without manual intervention) once they are snapped together. Do not snap both halves together until ready to install over the line/conductor.
Installation time can be decreased by snapping one side of each roller together on the ground.
The wheel is designed to snap onto tabs on the outside rollers, so the wheel spins in unison with this roller. To prevent separation of the wheel from the roller, use one cable tie to secure the split wheel after snapping onto the roller.
-
STEP 1 : Confirm the following items are contained in your LG201-1pk kit:
- 2 Wheels 12” diameter
- 10 Roller halves (to make 5 rollers)
- 1 set of Standard Fasteners (2 L-brackets, 6 cable ties, 2 hose clamps), or
- 1 set (2) large HLC Clamps (if for ITEM LG-201-1pk-HLC)
-
STEP 2 : Verify the diameter of the line/conductor where the Line Guard is to be installed. For line/conductor sizes less than 1”, proceed to STEP 4.
-
STEP 3 : Rollers are fabricated by default to have a 1” hole on each end of the assembled roller. If the line/conductor is larger than 1” the roller halves can be cut back on each end. There are pre-fab grooves on the inside of the conical ends of the rollers. The first groove represents a 2” opening, and the next groove represents a 3” opening. Cuts can be made using a utility knife, hacksaw, or rotary chop saw (prior to installation). Note: Removal of the cutout for a 3” opening will remove the end snaps to hold the wheel. This will not affect the integrity of the product.
-
STEP 4 : If using LG 201-1pk with the standard fastener option, position one L-Bracket at the end of the desired installation and secure to the conductor with cable ties and/or hose clamps.
If using the LG 201-1pk-HLC option, position one C-Clamp at one end of the desired installation and secure to the line so it doesn’t slide on the line due to gravity. -
STEP 5 : Snap two roller halves together. The rollers mate only one way. There are 4 snaps on each side of the roller halves. To begin, only snap one side of the roller halves together to form a clamshell. Then position the clamshell over the line/conductor and snap the other side tight. Repeat for all 5 rollers. Note: If you have cut back the roller to form a 3” opening, you will only have two remaining snaps on each side. This will not affect the integrity of the product.
-
STEP 6 : While assembling the first roller on the line and the last roller on the line, spread apart the 12” wheel to fit over the roller end and the 4 snaps on the end so the wheel and roller spin together. Then secure the split wheel with a cable tie at the base of the wheel.
-
STEP 7 : Gently push Line Guard rollers down the line until it fits snug against the first installed L-Bracket or HLC clamp. Now secure the final L-Bracket or HLC Clamp on the other end in the same way as the first fastener. This completes the installation of Line Guard.
