Proper use

The product is suitable for private use in private gardens and allotments. A product for private gardens and allotments refers to a device with an annual operating time generally not exceeding 50 hours, during which time the device is primarily used to shred organic household and garden waste. Public facilities, sporting halls, and agricultural/forestry applications are excluded.

The product may only be used in the intended manner. Any use beyond this is improper. The user/operator, not the manufacturer, is responsible for damages or injuries of any type resulting from this.

An element of the intended use is also the observance of the safety instructions, as well as the assembly instructions and operating information in the operating manual.

Persons who operate and maintain the product must be familiar with the manual and must be informed about potential dangers. In addition, the applicable accident prevention regulations must be strictly observed. Other general occupational health and safety-related rules and regulations must be observed. The liability of the manufacturer and resulting damages are excluded in the event of modifications of the product. The product may only be operated with original parts and original accessories from the manufacturer. The safety, operating and maintenance specifications of the manufacturer, as well as the dimensions specified in the technical data, must be observed.

Proper use includes shredding

• All types of branches up to a maximum diameter of 75 mm (depending on the type of wood and freshness),
• Hedges and tree cuttings,
• Shrubs and bushes,
• Wilting, moist, garden waste that has already been stored for several days, alternating with branches.

Please note that our products were not designed with  the intention of use for commercial or industrial purposes. We assume no guarantee if the product is used in commercial or industrial applications, or for equivalent work.

WARNING

Who is not permitted to use the product:

• The product may only be operated by people who are familiar with handling it.
• Children may not work with this product.
• People under the influence of alcohol, drugs and medication, as well as those who are tired or ill.

ATTENTION

Always check whether the feed funnel is empty and that the blades are not blocked prior to starting the engine!

ATTENTION

Remaining in the petrol impact garden shredder’s danger area when starting and operating is prohibited.

• Never shred while people, especially children or animals are nearby.
• Do not run the combustion engine in closed rooms in which hazardous carbon monoxide can collect.
• Wear hearing protection and safety goggles during the entire operating period.
• Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or clothing with hanging belts or cords.
• Only use the machine outdoors (i.e. not close to a wall or another rigid object) and on a solid, level surface.
• Do not use the machine on a surface paved with gravel where ejected material could cause injuries.
• Ensure that all nuts, pins and screws are securely tightened so that the product is in a safe working condition.
• Prior to commissioning, all covers and safety devices must be mounted correctly. Damaged or illegible stickers must be replaced.

Handling fuel

Use only E5 unleaded petrol as fuel.

DANGER

Risk of fire and explosion!

When filling, fuel may ignite and even explode. This can lead to severe burns or death.

• Only store fuel in containers (canisters) designed for this purpose.
• The tank caps must always be properly screwed on and tightened.
• Fuel must be filled before starting the engine. While the engine is running or immediately after switching off the product, do not open the fuel filler cap or add fuel.
• Before refueling, switch off the combustion engine and let it cool down.
• Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke while refueling.
•  Never store the product with fuel in the tank inside a building. Any fuel vapors produced can come into contact with naked flames or sparks and ignite.
• Do not place the product and fuel tank near heaters, radiant heaters, welding machines or other sources of heat.
• If fuel has overflowed, do not start the combustion engine until the area contaminated with fuel has been cleaned. Avoid starting the engine until the fuel vapours have evaporated (wipe dry).
• For safety reasons, check fuel line, fuel tank, fuel cap, and connections regularly for damage, aging (brittleness), tight fit and leaks and replace if necessary.

Handling

• Before starting the machine, make sure that the filling funnel is empty.
• Keep your head and body a safe distance from the loading slot.
• Do not place hands, other parts of the body and clothing in the filling chamber, the ejector chute or in the vicinity of other moving parts.
• Always pay attention to your balance and firm footing. Do not bend over or stand higher than the device when throwing material in.
• Always stay outside of the ejection zone when commissioning the machine.
• Ensure that hard objects such as metal, stones, glass or other foreign objects are not contained in the material being thrown in.
• If foreign objects get into the cutting tool or the machine makes unusual noises or vibrates abnormally, switch the engine off immediately and allow the machine to run down. Remove the spark plug connector and perform the following steps:
  • Check the machine for damage
  • Check the parts for firm seating, and retighten them if necessary.
  • Repair or replace any damaged parts with parts that are of equivalent quality
• Do not let processed material pile up within the ejection area; this could prevent proper ejection and cause a kick-back of the material through the filling funnel.
• In the event of blockages in the loading or ejection area of the machine, switch the engine off and pull the spark plug connector before removing the material remaining in the loading slot or ejector chute.
• Make sure that the engine is free of waste and other accumulations to safeguard the engine from damage or possible fire.
• Remember that when the starter mechanism with motorised machines is commissioned, the cutting tool also starts operating.
• Make sure all covers and deflectors are in their place and in good working condition.
• Do not change the speed governor setting of the engine or over-rev it. The safe maximum working speed regulates the speed and protects the engine and all rotating parts from damage due to excess speed. Contact customer service if you have any problems.
• Do not transport or tilt the device with the engine running.
• Switch the engine. off and pull out the spark plug as soon as you leave your workstation.

Residual risks

The product has been built according to state-of-the-art and the recognized technical safety rules.
However, individual residual risks can arise during operation.

Unpacking

• Check whether the scope of delivery is complete.

Assembly

ATTENTION

Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning!

ATTENTION

Due to the heavy product weight, we recommend that at least three people assemble the product.

Note:
Place the product on a level, even surface.

Ensure that the safety switch and cable are not broken or damaged by being crushed, pulled or the like.

Tool required:

• Not included in the scope of delivery!

• Open-ended spanner/socket spanner, size 10 mm*
• 2x open-ended spanner/socket spanner, size 13 mm*
• Needle nose pliers
• Fitting the wheels (11) (Fig. 3)

1. Place a pad on the floor to avoid damage to the product.
2. Carefully remove the product from the transport case with the help of another person.
3. Place the base frame (7) on the pad.
4. Push the wheel axle (A) into the base frame (7)
5. Push an M16 washer (B), a wheel (11) and an M16 washer (B) onto both sides of the wheel axle (A).
6. Secure the wheels (11) on both sides with a split pin (C).
7. Tilt the base frame (7) onto the wheels (11).
   • Note: Bend the free ends of the split pins with a needle nose pliers to secure them

• Fitting the shredding unit (12) (Fig. 4)

1.  Position the shredding unit (12) over the base frame (7) and ensure that the fitting holes are aligned.
2. Fasten the shredding unit (12) to the base frame (7) with four M8x35mm screws (D), M8 spring washers (E), M8 washers (F) and M8 locknuts (G). Use two 13 mm open-ended spanners/socket spanners to fit the M8x35mm screws (D).

• Mounting the feed funnel (2) (Fig. 5)

1. Position the feed funnel (2) with the feed funnel rubber seal (H) over the shredding unit (12) and ensure that the fitting holes are aligned.
2. Fasten the feed funnel (2) to the shredding unit (12) with three M6x16mm screws (I), M6 spring washers (J), M6 washers (K). Use a 10 mm socket spanner/ open-ended spanner to fit the M6x16mm screws (I).

• Connecting the loading funnel safety switch (14) /catch basket safety switch (8) (Fig. 1, 5)

1. Connect the loading funnel safety switch cable (14) to the engine connection cable (15).
2. Repeat the procedure for the catch basket safety switch (8).

• Fitting the transport handle (1) (Fig. 6)

1. Position the transport handle (1) with the narrow side on the inside of the feed funnel (2).
2. Fasten the transport handle (1) to the feed funnel (2) with four M6x20mm screws (L), M6 spring washers (J), M6 washers (K). Use a 10 mm socket spanner/ open-ended spanner to fit the M6x20mm screws (L).

• Inserting the catch basket (10) (Fig. 7)

1. Slide the catch basket (10) along the guide rail into the base frame (7).
   • Note: The petrol impact garden shredder can only be started once the collection bucket has been pushed into the base frame correctly.

Before commissioning

ATTENTION

Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning!

• Inhalation of fuel / lubricating oil vapors and exhaust gases can cause serious damage to health, unconsciousness and in extreme cases death.
• Do not breathe fuel / lubricating oil vapors and exhaust gases.
• Operate the product outdoors only

ATTENTION

Product damage!

Using the product without or with too little engine and gear oil can result in engine damage.

• Fill with fuel and oil before starting the machine.
• The product is supplied without engine and gearbox oil.

ATTENTION

Environmental damage!

Spilled oil can pollute the environment permanently.
The liquid is highly toxic and can quickly lead to water pollution.

• Fill/empty oil only on level, paved surfaces.
• Use a filling nozzle or funnel.
• Collect drained oil in a suitable container.
• Wipe up spilled oil carefully immediately and dispose of the cloth according to local regulations.
• Dispose of oil as per local regulations.

ATTENTION

Risk of damage!

If incorrectly stored or undrained fuel is used, the carburetor may become clogged or engine operation may be affected.

• Put unused fuel in an airtight vessel and store it in a dark, cool room.

Topping up oil (Fig. 8)

Check the oil level regularly before commissioning. An oil level that is too low can damage the motor.

1. Unscrew the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16).
2. Use a funnel to top up the engine oil. Note the max. filling capacity of 0.55 l. Fill the oil up to the lower edge of the filling nozzle carefully.
3. Wipe the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) with a clean, lint-free cloth.
4. Screw the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) back into the filling nozzle until it reaches the stop.
5. Unscrew the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) and read the oil level in the horizontal position. The oil level must be in the middle on the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16).
6. If the oil level is too low, repeat the process.
7.  Then screw the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) back in.

ATTENTION

The product is delivered without engine oil. Therefore, ensure that you add oil before starting it up. Use SAE 10W-40 oil.

Filling in fuel (Fig. 8)

ATTENTION

The product is delivered without fuel. It is therefore essential to fill with fuel before commissioning. Use Super E5 petrol for this.

1. Unscrew the fuel filler cap (3).
2. Use a suitable funnel to fill a maximum of 3.6 l of E5 unleaded petrol into the fuel tank (4).
3. Ensure that the fuel tank (4) is not overfilled and that no fuel is spilled. Always use the fuel filter insert (17). Wipe up spilled fuel immediately and wait until the fuel vapors have evaporated (risk of ignition).
4. Retighten the fuel filler cap (3).

WARNING

Note:

• Good work results require well-sharpened blades.
• Blunt blades reduce the cutting performance and impair the work process! Sure signs of blunt blades are leaving an indentation, reduced performance and a poor cutting pattern.
• Always stand to the side of the filling funnel when feeding chopped material (Fig. 16)

Speeds

Use the throttle lever (21) to set the engine to the desired speed.

• MIN position, “tortoise”
• MAX position, “hare”

Starting the engine (5) (Fig. 9)

DANGER

The danger of poisoning!

Only use the product outdoors and never in closed or poorly ventilated rooms.

ATTENTION

• Do not allow the pull starter to recoil. This can result in damage.
• In case of cool weather, it may be necessary to repeat the starting process numerous times.

Note:

If the engine is cold, set both the choke lever and the fuel valve to the “ON” position. If the engine is warm, the choke is not required.

1. Set both the choke lever (19) and the fuel valve (20) on the engine to “ON”.
2. Position the throttle (21) in the middle.
3. Turn the on/off switch (18) to “ON”.
4. Now pull the pull starter (22) slowly several times so that fuel can flow from the fuel tank (4) to the engine (5).
5. Start the engine (5) by pulling the pull starter (22) quickly. If the engine (5) does not start, repeat the process.
6. Let the engine (5) warm up for several seconds.
7. Turn the choke lever (19) to the “OFF” position slowly.
8. Use the throttle to set the required speed (21).
   • MIN position, “tortoise”
   • MAX position, “hare”
9. If the engine (5) does not start even after several attempts, read the “ Troubleshooting

Switching the engine (5) off (Fig. 9)

Note:

Allow the product to run for a short time (approx. 30 seconds) switching it off so that the engine can cool down.

1. Use the throttle (21) to set the speed to MIN, “tortoise”.
2. Turn the on/off switch (18) to “OFF”.
3. Set the fuel valve (20) to the “OFF” position.

Automatic oil cut-off

Note: The automatic oil cut-off system responds when there is too little engine oil.

1. If the oil level is too low, top up the oil as described in 9.1.
2. Start the engine (5) as described in 10.1.

Cleaning

WARNING

There is a risk of accident! Always carry out cleaning work when the engine is switched off. There is a danger of injury! Let the product cool down before cleaning. Elements of the engine are hot. There is a danger of injury and burning!

The product can start unexpectedly and cause injuries.

• Switch the engine off before cleaning.
• Remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug.
• Allow the engine to cool down.

Note: Place the product on a level, even surface.

ATTENTION

Never use a high-pressure cleaner to clean your product.

The use of high-pressure cleaners shortens the service life and reduces the ease of maintenance.

• Keep protective devices, air vents and the motor housing as free of dust and dirt as possible. Rub the product clean with a clean cloth or blow it off with compressed air at low pressure. We recommend that you clean the product directly after every use.
• We recommend that you clean the product directly after every use.
• Clean the product at regular intervals using a damp cloth and a little soft soap. Do not use any cleaning products or solvents; they could attack the plastic parts of the product. Make sure that no water can penetrate the product interior.

• Socket spanner with extension, size 16 mm*
• Copper wire brush*
• Compressed air*
• Fuel extraction pump

Removing blockages and shredded material residues from the cutter disc (23) (Fig. 1, 11)

1. Disassemble the feed funnel (2) and remove the feed funnel rubber seal (H). Use a size 10 open-ended spanner/socket spanner to remove the M6x16mm screws (I).
2. Remove the cover (13) from the shredding unit (12).
3. You can use the hexagon on the shredding unit (12) to turn the cutter disc (23) so that the blade screws (24) are well accessible. Use a socket spanner with extension, size 16.
4. Clean inside the product and the cutter disc (23) with compressed air in order to remove shredded material residues.
5. Fit the feed funnel (2) with the feed funnel rubber seal (H) as described in 8.3.

ATTENTION

Remove the socket spanner with extension from the hexagon on the shredding unit.

Transport

Note:

If transporting the product with a car or similar, please ensure that the product does not move during transport. Preparation for transport

• Switch off the engine and let it cool down.
• Remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug.
• Drain the motor oil of the warm motor.
• Empty the fuel tank using a petrol extraction pump (not included in the scope of delivery) into a collection container.
• If operational, keep the engine running until the remaining fuel has been used up.
• Clean the cooling fins of the cylinder and the housing.
• Secure the product against slipping using a tension strap, for example.

Transport (fig. 10)

1. In order to move the product, grip the transport handle (1) and tilt the product backward onto the wheels (11).
2. You can now transport the product.

Maintenance

WARNING

Have maintenance and repair tasks that are not described in this operating manual, carried out by a specialist workshop. Use only original spare parts.

There is a risk of an accident! Always carry out maintenance work when the engine is switched off. There is a danger of injury! Let the product cool down before maintenance. Elements of the engine are hot. There is a danger of injury and burning!

The product can start unexpectedly and cause injuries.

• Switch the engine off before maintenance.
• Remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug.
• Allow the engine to cool down.
• All protective and safety equipment must be reinstalled immediately after servicing and maintenance work is completed.

Ensure that all moving parts have come to a standstill.

• Open-ended spanner/socket spanner, size 10 mm*
• Socket spanner with extension, size 16 mm*

Changing the blade (Fig. 12)

CAUTION

Wear protective gloves when handling the blades!
Note: Clean the blade and the blade support surface to remove hardened dirt residues. The blades must be positioned exactly during installation.
Note: When installing, ensure that the blade is touching the stop edge.
Note: In order to prevent the blade screws from loosening themselves, they must be glued in place with screw-locking adhesive.
Note: The blades are reversible blades. Blades can be reversed before new blades have to be inserted.

1. Disassemble the feed funnel (2) and remove the feed funnel rubber seal (H). Use a size 10 open-ended spanner/socket spanner to remove the M6x16mm screws (I).
2. Remove the cover (13) from the shredding unit (12).
3. You can use the hexagon on the shredding unit (12) to turn the cutter disc (23) so that the blade screws (24) are well accessible. Use a socket spanner with extension, size 16.
4. Use a size 16 socket spanner with extension to loosen the blade screws (24) on the blade (25) and remove the blade (25) carefully.
5. Insert the new blade (25) and secure the blade (25) with the blade screws (24).
6. Turn the cutter disc (23) in order to replace the second blade (25). Proceed as described in point 3 above to do this.
7. Fit the feed funnel (2) with the feed funnel rubber seal (H) as described in 8.3.

ATTENTION

Remove the socket spanner with extension from the hexagon on the shredding unit.
Note:
If one of the following points occurs after replacing the blade, contact an authorized specialist dealer who can check the product for damage and replace the blades if necessary:

• Not a satisfactory cutting result.
• The product vibrates excessively.
• The product causes unusual noises.

Damaged blades (25)

WARNING

There is a risk of injury if you work with a damaged blade.

• Wear protective gloves!
• For safety reasons, you should only ever have your blade sharpened and balanced by an authorized specialist workshop. For optimum results, it is recommended that the blade should be inspected once a year.
• When changing the blade, only use the original spare parts.
• • If it came into contact with a foreign object. Inspect the product for damage and perform the required repairs before starting again and working with the product. If the product begins to experience exceptionally strong vibrations, switch it off immediately and check it.
• Use only blades and accessories recommended by the manufacturer. Use of other insert tools and accessories may result in injury to the user

Sharpening the blades (25)

In order to avoid an imbalance, sharpening should only be performed by an authorized specialist workshop.

Checking the oil level

1. Check the oil level as described in 9.1.

Changing oil (Fig. 8, 13)

WARNING

Health hazard!

Inhalation of fuel / lubricating oil vapors and exhaust gases can cause serious damage to health, unconsciousness and in extreme cases death.

• Do not breathe fuel / lubricating oil vapors and exhaust gases.
• Operate the product outdoors only.

ATTENTION

Product damage!

If the product is operated without or with too little engine oil, this can lead to product damage.

• Fill with fuel and oil before starting the machine. The product is delivered without engine oil

ATTENTION

Environmental damage!

Spilled oil can pollute the environment permanently.
The liquid is highly toxic and can quickly lead to water pollution.

• Fill/empty oil only on level, paved surfaces.
• Use a filling nozzle or funnel.
• Collect drained oil in a suitable container.
• Wipe up spilled oil carefully immediately and dispose of the cloth according to local regulations.
• Dispose of oil as per local regulations.

Change engine oil after 50 hours of operating time.

The engine oil change should be carried out while the engine is at operating temperature.

1. Unscrew the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16).
2. Provide a collection container (not included in the scope of delivery).
3. Unscrew the cover cap from the oil drain hose (9). Hold the oil drain hose (9) over the collection bucket and allow the oil to run out.
4. Close the oil drain hose (9) again once the oil has drained completely.
5. Fill up with new SAE 10W-40 engine oil (approx. 0.55 l).
6. Wipe the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) with a clean, lint-free cloth.
7. Screw the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) back into the filling nozzle until it reaches the stop.
8. Unscrew the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16) and read the oil level in the horizontal position. The oil level must be in the middle on the oil filler cap with oil dipstick (16).
9. If the oil level is too low, top up the oil as described in 9.1.
10. Dispose of the used oil properly.

Cleaning the fuel filter insert (17) (Fig. 8)

Note:

The petrol filter is a fuel filter insert cup, which is located directly under the fuel cap and filters all the fuel that is filled in.

1. Unscrew the fuel filler cap (3).
2. Remove the fuel filter insert (17). Clean it in a nonflammable solvent or a solvent with a high flash point.
3. Reinsert the fuel filter insert (17).
4. Retighten the fuel filler cap (3).

Maintaining the air filter (6) (Fig. 14)

DANGER

Risk of fire and explosion!

If not cleaned correctly, fuel may ignite and even explode. This can lead to severe burns or death.

• Only clean the air filter by knocking it out.
• Never clean the air filter with petrol or flammable solvents.

ATTENTION

Risk of damage!

Operating the engine without a filter element or with a damaged filter element can cause engine damage.

• Never run the engine without the air filter element or with a damaged filter element. This would allow dirt into the engine, which would result in severe damage to the engine.

ATTENTION

Fouled air filters diminish the engine output due to reduced air supply to the carburettor. Regular inspection is therefore essential.

Note: The air filter should be checked prior to use and cleaned as required.

1. Remove the air filter cover (6) by removing the cover wing screw (6a).
2. Remove the air filter (6c) by removing the air filter wing screw (6b).
3. Only clean the air filter (6c) by knocking it out.
4. Replace a faulty air filter (6c) with a new one.
5. Re-insert the air filter (6c) and fit the air filter wing screw (6b).
6. Fit the air filter cover (6) with the cover wing screw (6a)

Maintaining the spark plug (27) (Fig. 15)

Check the spark plug for dirt for the first time after 20 operating hours and clean it with a copper wire brush if necessary. Then service the spark plug every 50 operating hours.

1. Remove the spark plug connector (26) from the spark plug (27).
2. Use the spark plug spanner (M) to remove the spark plug (27).
3. Remove any dirt from the base of the spark plug (27).
4. Visually inspect the spark plug (27). Remove any deposits present using a copper wire brush.
5. Check the spark plug gap. Use a feeler gauge to adjust the electrode gap to 0.6-0.7 mm.
6. Replace the spark plug (27) and take care not to tighten it excessively.
7. Then place the spark plug connector (26) on the spark plug (27)

Storage

Store the product and its accessories in a dark, dry and frost-free place that is inaccessible to children.
The optimum storage temperature is between 5 and 30˚C.
Store the product in its original packaging. Cover the product to protect it from dust or moisture. Store the operating manual with the product.

Risk of fire and explosion!

Storing the product near potential sources of ignition can result in a fire or an explosion. This can lead to severe burns or death.

• Eliminate possible sources of ignition, such as furnaces, hot water boilers with gas, gas dryers, etc.

ATTENTION

Risk of damage!

If the product is not stored properly, the engine can be damaged.

• Store the product protected against dirt, dust and moisture.

Tool required:

• Not included in the scope of delivery!
• Fuel extraction pump
• Oil filler bottle*
• Collection bucket*
• Cloth

Preparing for storage

If the product will not be used for a period of more than 30 days, the following measures must be taken to prepare it for storage.

1. Empty the fuel tank using a petrol extraction pump.
2. Start the engine and let it run until the remaining fuel is used up.
3. Change the oil at the end of every season.
4. Remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug.
5. Fill the cylinder with approx. 20 ml of oil from an oil can.
6. Pull the pull starter slowly so that the oil protects the inside of the cylinder.
7. Clean the entire product to protect the paint

Drain fuel with a petrol extraction pump (Fig. 8)

In case of storage over a longer period of time, the fuel must be drained.

1. Unscrew and remove the fuel filler cap (3).
2. Remove the fuel filter insert (17).
3. Push the fuel extraction pump’s hose into the fuel tank (4) and use the fuel extraction pump to drain the fuel completely.
4. Reinsert the fuel filter insert (17).
5. Retighten the fuel filler cap (3).

Repair & ordering spare parts

After repairs or maintenance, make sure that all safety related parts are installed and are in perfect condition. All parts which may cause injury must be kept where they are inaccessible to children or others.

According to the German Product Liability Act, no liability is accepted for damage caused by improper repairs or by not using original spare parts. Such work should be performed by a customer service centre or authorised specialists. The same applies to accessory parts
