Before Initial Use
- Remove all packaging materials and any possible protective films used for protection during transportation.
- Before you first enjoy fresh cold drip coffee, we recommend cleaning all components to remove any possible production residues. To do this, follow the instructions in the “Cleaning and Care” chapter.
Preparation
You can find tips on dosing and preparation in our “Tips for the Perfect Cold Drip Coffee” on the next pages.
-
Place the coffee jug on a dry, stable, fl at and water-resistant surface.
-
If you have not already done so, place the seal on the permanent filter.
-
Place the permanent filter in the coffee jug.
-
Pour the desired quantity of freshly ground coffee into the permanent filter. Do not pour too much powder into the permanent filter as this will swell up. And do not press down the powder because otherwise the water will no longer be able to trickle through.
We recommend 25 g of ground coffee per 250 ml of water. You will find more information about this in the next chapter. -
Wet the surface of the coffee powder with a little water. This encourages even extraction.
-
If you have not already done so, place the silicone insert with drip stop at the bottom of the water container. Make sure that the round head of the drip stop is pointing downwards.
-
If you have not already done so, place the seal at the bottom of the water container.
-
Fill the water container with cold water and ice cubes if necessary. Cover up the air hole with one finger as you do this so that no water escapes.
-
Place the water container on the coffee jug with permanent filter. Press the seals firmly against each other.
-
Place the lid on the water container.
-
Wait until all the water has run through the permanent filter. This takes around 2 to 4 hours depending on the amount of coffee and grinding fineness.
-
Take off the water container.
-
Take the permanent filter out of the coffee jug.
-
As lots of flavour emerges from the coffee at the beginning of the extraction and this gradually decreases during the extraction, it is essential to stir around the cold drip coffee before you enjoy it.
-
Place the lid on the coffee jug.
-
You can now pour the cold drip coffee straight into your favourite cup or store it in the fridge.
We hope you enjoy fresh coffee moments full of great flavour!
Tips for the Perfect Cold Drip Coffee
The perfect flavour depends on lots of different factors – first and foremost
the coffee bean and the water. But the exact way the coffee is prepared also
makes the sometimes small but subtle difference.
Below we have summarised a few of the most important basics for this
preparation method.
Type of Coffee
- Even though for cold drip preparation many factors play a role in the success of making the perfect coffee, the most important ingredient is of course the coffee bean itself. The taste differs according to the type of coffee, the soil on which the coffee was grown, the growing region and the prevailing climate, and the roasting process to which the coffee beans were subjected.
- To really enjoy coffee, remember: Quality beats quantity!Cold drip preparation in particular brings out the fi ne aromas of the particular coffee bean and therefore the very unique flavour of the coffee. It is therefore worth spending a little more when choosing your coffee beans. We recommend gently roasted, light varieties, as they contain few bitter substances and their own taste is particularly well preserved.
Grinding
- Coffee loses its aroma quickly after grinding. To get the best out of the coffee beans, we recommend that you only grind them just before making the coffee – preferably by hand. The advantage of manual coffee grinders is that the grinding fineness can generally be infinitely set and therefore adjusted more precisely. In addition, the coffee grinders are easier to clean, which means that it is possible to switch between different types of coffee without any problem.
- The grinding fineness is one of the crucial factors.
For the cold drip method, the coffee should be ground slightly coarser than for the French press. If you want to be on the safe side, let a barista that you trust grind a small portion of the beans and use this as a comparison when grinding at home.
Dosing
- To obtain a successful result, you should keep an eye on the ratio of coffee powder to water. If the water content predominates, the coffee loses its taste. If you use too much coffee, the coffee becomes too strong. We recommend that you start off with 25 g of coffee per 250 ml of water. Of course, tastes vary from person to person, so you need to slowly get to know your own ideal ratio.
- Kitchen scales are one aid that not only make dosing easier for beginners, but are also used by even the most experienced baristas. You can use them to weigh the quantities of coffee powder and water very precisely and so also ensure the ideal ratio between the two ingredients.
Water
- Along with the coffee bean, water is the main component of your coffee. You should therefore make sure that the quality of the water you use is good. Since tap water is often too hard, we recommend that you use filtered water. For a particularly fine flavour, you can also use still mineral water. Here too you should experiment, because not every mineral water tastes the same.
- In addition to the water quality, the water temperature is also decisive for the taste of your coffee. For the best results, pour really cold water over the freshly ground coffee. As well as cold water, most baristas also add ice cubes (which have also been made from filtered water) to the water container so that the water stays really cold for as long as possible.
Enjoying Cold Drip Coffee Properly
Cold drip coffee is traditionally drunk purely on ice. But there are lots of different ways to sample cold drip coffee. We have summarised the most popular for you below:
- delicious iced coffee with milk (and a scoop of vanilla ice cream)
- light alternative to filter coffee – just heat it up afterwards
- coffee tonic – mixed with tonic water
- coffee lime tonic – mixed with tonic water and freshly squeezed lime juice; also works very well with lemon or orange juice
- gin coffee tonic – mixed with tonic water and your favorite gin
- coffee long drink with whiskey or coffee liqueur, grappa, Amaretto or similar
Let your imagination run wild and experiment with your favorite drinks.
Shelf Life
- As soon as all the water has run through, you can enjoy your cold drip coffee instantly. Just stir it around and pour it into your favorite coffee glass.
- However, if you do not want to drink it all right away, you can store it in the fridge. Simply transfer it into a sealable vessel or cover up the coffee jug. If it is well chilled, cold drip coffee will easily last for around 3 days – assuming you can resist drinking it for this long!
Cleaning and Care
PLEASE NOTE
- The components must not be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- Do not use any toxic, corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents or scouring sponges to clean the product. These may damage the surfaces.
- Empty the permanent filter.
- Rinse all components with warm water. If necessary, you can use a little detergent to remove more intense soiling.
