Wriggle Overview

Wriggle is a powerful Auto Filter device inspired by the Buchla Triple Morphing Filter. It features three parallel bandpass filters modulated by an LFO, offering a wide range of sound manipulation possibilities.

The key features include:

  • Three independently tunable bandpass filters.
  • Resonance control to narrow the filters’ width.
  • Shift function for adjusting filter tunings above and below the center frequency.
  • 12 dB per octave high-pass filter to prevent blowup or tame uneven resonances.

LFO

Wriggle’s LFO offers:

  • Four waveform shapes: sine, triangle, sawtooth, and pulse.
  • A sample and hold waveform.
  • Freely adjustable or tempo-synced rate.
  • Jitter for adding random values to waveform shapes.
  • Smear for delaying control signals to second and third filters.
  • Stereo offset for wider stereo image creation.

Thank you for exploring Wriggle. For any inquiries or feedback, contact hey@rainbowcircuit.co.

FAQ

  • Q: Can Wriggle be used in other DAWs besides Ableton Live?
  • A: Wriggle is designed as a Max for Live Device specifically for use within Ableton Live.

  • A: To reset Wriggle to its default settings, simply remove the device from the track and re-add it.
  • Q : Does Wriggle support MIDI mapping?
  • A: Yes, you can MIDI map various parameters of Wriggle for real-time control.

Installation
Unzip the .amxd file and drop the file to the following: Ableton/user library/presets/audio effect/max audio effect.

Wriggle Overview

Deceptively simple in its construction, Wriggle comprises three parallel bandpass filters modulated by an LFO. Wriggle offers creative ways to manipulate this mechanism, enabling the extraction of a wide range of sounds. The three bandpass filters can be independently tuned to specific frequencies. Resonance narrows the width of the bandpass filters, accentuating the motion of the filter.

Shift simultaneously adjusts the filter tunings above and below the set centre frequency. Use Shift to create rumble or vowel-like overtones in the signal.

Wriggle is equipped with a 12 dB per octave high-pass filter, which can be used to prevent filter blowup or tame uneven filter resonances.

LFO
Wriggle’s LFO offers four waveform shapes: sine, triangle, sawtooth, and pulse — along with a sample and hold waveform. The LFO rate can be set freely or synced to the tempo of the host Live set. The LFO modulates the filter tunings between 100 Hz and 18 kHz, and any ‘spillage’ from the LFO is folded back.

Jitter adds random values to the LFO waveform shapes, creating irregularities in the modulation.

Smear delays the control signal arriving at the second and third filters by the specified interval. For example, if Smear is set to 100 ms, the second bandpass filter will be modulated with a 100 ms delay, and the third filter with a 200 ms delay.
Stereo offsets the modulation time between the left and right signals, creating a wider stereo image.
