General notes

Please read these installation instructions carefully before proceeding with the installation and using the MELAtrace software. Keep the installation instructions in a safe place. This document is part of the product.

• Barcode scanner with Code 128 B support

2.3 Access rights
The following access rights are required for the use of MELAtrace:

• Approval of internet communication for the application TeamViewerQS_DE.exe or TeamViewerQS_EN.exe

• Access to the practice network for device connections (TCP, FTP)
• Access to e-mail client for sending logs by e-mail (e.g. MS Outlook)

Connecting and configuring devices

3.1 Connecting devices to a computer with MELAtrace
Note the following points before connecting a device to a computer with MELAtrace:

• Depending on the device, you will need different cables and adapters (e.g. network cable, switch, hub, USB/ serial adapter).
  PLEASE NOTE: An overview is provided in Appendix 1.

• You will need an unused IP address for each of the devices integrated into an existing practice network. This is assigned by the practice administrator.

3.2 Configuring devices for output in MELAtrace
Use the service menu of the respective connected device to configure it for output in MELAtrace:

• Select the computer as the output medium and activate immediate output.
• If necessary, set the date and time.

Specify IP address, gateway, subnet mask of the device and computer for:

• Careclave 618
• Cliniclave 45, 45 M, 45 D, 45 MD
• Vacuclave 118, 118S, 123, 123S, 318, 323, 550
• SteriHero Beauty, Beauty S, Vet, Vet S, Podo, Podo S
• Vacuklav 40 B+ (Evolution), 41 B+ (Evolution), 43 B+ (Evolution), 44 B+ (Evolution)
• MELAtherm 10 (Evolution)
• MELAnet Box

Set FTP or TCP logging for:

• Careclave 618
• Cliniclave 45, 45 M, 45 D, 45 MD
• Vacuclave 118, 118S, 123, 123S, 318, 323, 550
• SteriHero Beauty, Beauty S, Vet, Vet S, Podo, Podo S
• Vacuklav 40 B+ (Evolution), 41 B+ (Evolution), 43 B+ (Evolution), 44 B+ (Evolution)
• MELAtherm 10 (Evolution)

Deactivate indicator and approval request as well as label printing for:

• Cliniclave 45, 45 M, 45 D, 45 MD

• Vacuklav 40 B+ (Evolution), 41 B+ (Evolution), 43 B+ (Evolution), 44 B+ (Evolution)

Activate printer output for:

• DAC Universal

Installation

Depending on the software, which is already installed on the computer, the following additional components are installed alongside MELAtrace if necessary:

• Microsoft .NET Framework
• Microsoft SQL Server 2019

PLEASE NOTE
MELAG recommends installing any Windows updates before installing MELAtrace.

4.1 Installing MELAtrace
You can download the MELAtrace installation file either via the MELAG website or in the download centre under the “Documentation” product category.

The following must be fulfilled or present:

You have administrator rights for the computer.
If using a notebook, a power adaptor is connected.
All programs are closed.
Windows is not being run in safe mode.
A connection to the internet exists.

1. Download the installation file.

2. Run the file.
   The installation wizard opens.

3. Select the required language and click OK.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen during installation.

4.2 Installing Microsoft .NET Framework
Microsoft .NET Framework is a program library required by MELAtrace. If the relevant version is not yet installed on the computer, it is set up before the MELAtrace installation.

4.3 Installing the SQL Server
The SQL server is a component required by MELAtrace. It is installed automatically during the installation of MELAtrace if it is not yet installed on the computer.
Before starting to install the SQL server, any available updates are sought. These are downloaded before the installation begins.

Logging in

To log into MELAtrace, you need a MELAG account and a MELAtrace user.

5.1 MELAG Account
When starting MELAtrace for the first time or after you licence code has expired, you must log into your MELAG account first.

Create a MELAG account
The following must be fulfilled or present:
A connection to the internet exists.

1. Start MELAtrace.
   The login window for the MELAG account appears.

2. Click  Create an account now. The registration form opens.

3. Complete the registration form in full.

4. Click Register now.

Log in with your MELAG account
The following must be fulfilled or present:
You have created a MELAG account.

1. Start MELAtrace.
2. Enter the login data of your MELAG account.
3. Click Login.

5.2 MELAtrace User
A user login is required each time MELAtrace is started, after every logout and for authentication procedures.

PLEASE NOTE
Access data for the first time you log in:
User name: melagadmin
Password: melag

PLEASE NOTE
MELAG recommends changing the preset user name and the password after logging in for the first time.
Information on User administration can be found in the MELAtrace user manual.

1. Start MELAtrace.
   The login window for the MELAtrace user appears.

2. Enter your user name and your password in the login window.

3. Click  Login.

Licensing

PLEASE NOTE
The full range of functions is only available in the Pro version. Functions that are not available are greyed out in the software.

Note the following:

• If firewall systems are used it may be necessary to set up exceptions for the URLs of the licensing and up- date services.
• The program can only be licensed if you are logged into MELAtrace as an administrator.
• The MELAtrace software is licensed with a time credit model. The licence is valid for 12, 36 or 60 months, depending on the time credits selected.

6.1 Purchasing a licence
On purchasing MELAtrace, your stockist issues you with a valid licence code.
This is sent to you automatically by email.

With this e-mail you will receive your individual license code, with which you can activate your desired MELAtrace time credit:

Create a MELAG account at melatrace.melag.com, enter the code in your MELAtrace software and benefit from a complete, fast and paperless documentation.

6.2 Activating a licence

PLEASE NOTE
If you have any problems activating your licence, please contact melatrace@melag.de.

After opening MELAtrace for the first time, activate your licence to use the program.
The following must be fulfilled or present:

A connection to the internet exists.
You have received a licence code from your stockist.
You have created a MELAG account [▶ Page 7] for yourself.

1. Log in with your MELAG account in MELAtrace.
   The licensing wizard opens.

2. Enter your 24-digit licence code.

3. Confirm with OK.
   Your licence is activated.

Test licence
MELAG offers a free, three-month test licence, for which a licence code is not needed, so that you can try out the software. Only one test licence can be activated for each component and user.

1. Log in with your MELAG account in MELAtrace.
   The licensing wizard opens.

2. Select Activate three-month trial licence.

3. Confirm with OK.
   Your test licence is activated.

6.3 Licence renewal
After your licence has expired, you must renew it to continue using MELAtrace.

1. Request a new licence code from your stockist.
2. Activate the new licence code, see Activating a licence [▶ Page 9].

Licence renewal before the current valid licence expires

1. Go to Extras > Licensing.
2. Enter your new licence code.
3. Confirm with OK.
   Your new licence is now activated.

PLEASE NOTE
If the software version (Basic or Pro) stays the same, the new time credit is added to the remaining time. If the software version changes, the remaining time credit of the current licence code is lost.

6.4 Licence information
You can view information on your licence under Extras > Licensing.
One month before your licence expires, a notification is indicated in the header by the bell symbol. It shows you for how many more days your licence is still valid.

6.5 Licence model for existing customers
The old MELAtrace licence model was changed to a new model with time credits in March 2023.
If you purchased MELAtrace before then, you must change the licence model to use the latest software version.
To avoid you incurring costs for this, MELAG provides you with a free time credit of 50 months (valid until 31/05/2027).

Activate 50-month licence

1. Go to the MELAG website and complete the existing customer form.

2. Click Submit.
   You will then receive a licence code from MELAG.

3. Click Extras > Licensing.
   The licensing wizard opens.

4. Enter your 24-digit licence code.

5. Confirm with OK.
   Your free licence is activated.

Software update

As soon as a software update is available for MELAtrace, you are notified automatically by the bell symbol.

Performing the software update

1. Click the notification A new update is available.
   The Settings > Update menu opens.

2. Click  Download and install.

The installation package is downloaded and runs automatically.
