IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

1. Read all instructions. Misuse of appliance may result in personal injury.

2. Do not touch hot surfaces, including the Ceramic Pot, Lid, and Steam Vent area. Use potholders or oven mitts when handling the Ceramic Pot or Lid.

3. To protect against electrical shock do not immerse cord, plugs, or the Grain and Rice Cooker base in water or other liquid.

4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow the appliance to cool completely before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.

6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest Authorized Service Facility for examination, repair, or electrical or mechanical adjustment.

7. The use of accessories/attachments not recommended or sold by KitchenAid may cause fire, electrical shock, or injury to persons.

8. Do not use the appliance outdoors.

9. Do not let Power Cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces, including the top of the Grain and Rice Cooker.

10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.

11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing other hot liquids.

12. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug the Power Cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn the appliance off (O) then unplug from the wall outlet.

13. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.

14. Turn the appliance off (O), then unplug from the outlet when not in use, before assembling or disassembling parts, and before cleaning. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the Power Cord.

15. Make sure the switch located on the left hand side of the Grain and Rice Cooker is in the ON (I) position.

16. This appliance is not intended for use by children or by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
    The appliance and cord should be out of reach of children.

17. WARNING: Spilled food can cause serious burns. Keep appliance and cord away from children. Never drape cord over edge of counter, never use outlet below counter, and never use with an extension cord.

18. Steaming coming from a Steam Vent can cause burns.

19. If the bowl is overfilled and the maximum capacity is bypassed, boiling water may be ejected.

20. To ensure safety while cooking, place your Grain and Rice Cooker on a flat, dry surface.

21. Cook only in the Ceramic Pot provided.

22. Do not fill Water Tank above the Max (maximum) fill line.

23. Never leave the appliance unattended while it is in operation.

24. Never use the appliance without the Ceramic Pot and the Inner Lid.

25. Refer to the “Care and Cleaning” section for instructions on cleaning the surfaces in contact with food.

26. Do not exceed 1 oz (30 ml) of oil when cooking with the Grain and Rice Cooker.

27. Intended for countertop use only.

GETTING STARTED

BEFORE FIRST USE

1. Remove the Grain and Rice Cooker from packaging. Remove all packaging materials, if present.
2. Place the Grain and Rice Cooker on a dry, flat, and level surface such as a countertop or table.
3. Wash the Ceramic Pot, Inner Lid, Steam Collector, Water Tank, and Water Tank Lid in hot,sudsy water. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
4. Ensure the Grain and Rice Cooker is at least 4″ (10 cm) away from any walls, cabinets, or objects on the counter or table. Allow space above the Grain and Rice Cooker to open the Lid and avoid steam buildup on cabinets.
5. Attach the Power Cord to the Grain and Rice Cooker.

6. Plug in the Grain and Rice Cooker.

PRODUCT USAGE

1. Gather the desired ingredients to be cooked and fill the Water Tank to the Max (maximum) fill line with the desired liquid. Liquid can also be added directly to the Ceramic Pot before cooking.
   NOTE: Starchy foods such as rice are recommended to rinse thoroughly before cooking for optimal cooking performance. Rinse the rice until water is no longer cloudy or for 15-30 seconds.

2. Turn the Power Switch to the ON (I) position, located on the left side of the appliance.

3. From the Select mode screen, select the desired food to be cooked.

4. Select the food type and follow the prompts to add the desired food. No measuring cups are needed. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically sense the weight of the food when pouring it into the Ceramic Pot. Select NEXT.
   TIP: While on the weight screen, the units of measure (cups/oz/g) can be changed on the screen by tapping the 3 dots on the right.
   NOTE: For best results, level the food inside the pot for even cooking.

5. Follow the prompts to finalize your cooking selections. Select the food preparation, liquid, and texture to the desired cooking preference. Selections can be made by tapping on the screen and scrolling or leaving it as is before proceeding to cook.

6. Select START to begin the cooking cycle or DELAYED COOK if a later cooking completion time is preferred.
   NOTE: DELAYED COOK can be programmed to start up to 24 hours later.

7. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically dispense water into the pot and start cooking, and provide an estimated cooking time to help plan when to serve the meal.

8. When cooking is about to complete, a countdown timer will appear and audibly notify you when cooking has been completed. When finished, the Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically switch to KEEP WARM mode for 6 hours.
   IMPORTANT: The Ceramic Pot will be hot. To remove, use pot holders.

NOTE: An alternative usage is available by adding food directly into the Ceramic Pot. Turn ON (I) the appliance and open the Lid. The Grain and Rice Cooker will sense the opened Lid and ask if food needs to be added to the pot before selecting a cooking mode.
NOTE: Adding food without selecting the cook mode first will limit the unit of measurement to ounces or grams only. Cups is not available with this method.
NOTE: Allow unit to cool down for 30 minutes between cooking cycles before starting again.

COOKING FUNCTIONS

HOME SCREEN MENU

The home screen shows different cooking modes, specially designed for a variety of cooking tasks. System settings are also available on this screen.

SETTINGS

Tap the settings ( ) icon on the top left-hand corner of the home screen. You will find the following menu options under the settings.

• Zero Scale (calibrates the scale with Ceramic Pot to zero)
• Accent color (changes colors within screens)
• Measurement units (cups/oz/g)
• Languages (English/Spanish/French)
• Sound level (Button Sounds/Times and Alerts)
• Software version
• Restore default settings

Grain and Rice Cooker comes with an integrated scale to measure food and liquids. Presets on this appliance are based on weight measurement of rice/grain/beans with the scale to calculate the liquid ratio.

DELAYED COOK

This feature is offered in all “Preset Cooking Cycles” and saved “Custom Cooking Cycles” when using water to cook. See “Custom Cycle Setting” section for more details on how to create and save a custom cooking cycle. Programmable DELAYED COOK allows ingredients to be cooked at a later time, and can be set up to 24 hours in advance.

SOAK

QUICK SOAK: The QUICK SOAK function soaks grains or beans in the unit for up to 2 hours. QUICK SOAK uses a pre-heating cycle for the first few minutes to expedite soaking time.

SOAK: The SOAK function soaks grains or beans in the unit for 8 hours before cooking (the heating element does not turn ON for this option). Soaking more or less than 8 hours may impact cooking performance results.

STEAM

Place the Steam Basket in the Ceramic Pot. The Steam Basket will rest and hang on top of the Ceramic Pot. Select steam cycle on the main menu and set the desired time (refer to the “Steam Time Guide” section in the online Product Guide). The KitchenAid Grain and Rice Cooker automatically dispenses water into the Ceramic Pot to steam below the Steam Basket.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that the Lid is properly closed while using the Steam Basket.

KEEP WARM

The automatic KEEP WARM setting turns on when cooking has been completed.
KEEP WARM automatically defaults to 2 hours or can be manually set for up to 6 hours. It can also be turned off manually.
NOTE: The KitchenAid Grain and Rice Cooker will keep dishes warm until it is time to serve.

PRESET COOKING CYCLES/CUSTOM CYCLES

Add grains, rice, or beans to the Ceramic Pot and the built-in scale will automatically weigh the ingredients. Tap to select the desired recipe from the main menu, and then the Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically calculate and dispense the correct water ratio and cooking time for perfect results.

PRESET RICE CYCLE

1. Fill the Water Tank to the Max (maximum) fill line with the desired liquid.

2. Turn the Power Switch to the ON (I) position, located on the left side of the appliance.

3. Select the Rice type by tapping the selection on the screen.
   Example: Select WHITE SHORT GRAIN and proceed next.

4. Add the desired rice to the Ceramic Pot. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically sense the weight of the food when pouring it into the Ceramic Pot.
   NOTE: Liquid should not be added at this step as it will alter weight scale performance.
   The Water Tank should be filled prior as per step 1, or alternative liquid can be added after step 6.
   TIP: While on the weight screen, the units of measure (cups/oz/g) can be changed on the screen by tapping the 3 dots on the right.

5. If the food has already been added, remove the Ceramic Pot for 3 seconds and reinsert pot in the cooker.
   NOTE: Adding food without selecting the cook mode first will limit the unit of measurement to ounces or grams only. Cups is not available with this method. For best results, level the food inside the pot for even cooking.

6. Select Rice preparation, Liquid type, and Desired texture on the screen.
   NOTE: It is recommended to rinse rice before cooking for optimal cooking performance to remove excess starches.
   OPTIONAL: If desired, select DELAYED COOK. This can be set for up to 24 hours.

7. If too little food is added, the letters will flash red and the message “Please add more food to the pot” will appear. Once completed, the scale screen will appear.

8. Close the Lid and tap the START option.

9. Once the liquid dispenses, the screen will show an estimated cook time and the KEEP WARM option. This option can be turned off if desired.

10. When cooking is about to complete, a countdown timer will appear and audibly notify you when cooking has been completed. When finished, the Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically switch to KEEP WARM mode for 6 hours.
    IMPORTANT: The Ceramic Pot will be hot. To remove, use pot holders.

PRESET GRAIN CYCLE

1. Fill the Water Tank to the Max (maximum) fill line with the desired liquid.

2. Turn the Power Switch to the ON (I) position, located on the left side of the appliance.

3. Select the Grain type by tapping the selection on the screen.

4. Add the desired grain to the Ceramic Pot. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically sense the weight of the food when pouring it into the Ceramic Pot.
   NOTE: Liquid should not be added at this step as it will alter weight scale performance.
   The Water Tank should be filled prior as per step 1, or alternative liquid can be added after step 6.
   TIP: While on the weight screen, the units of measure (cups/oz/g) can be changed on the screen by tapping the 3 dots on the right.

5. If the food has already been added, remove the Ceramic Pot for 3 seconds and reinsert pot in the cooker.

PRESET LENTILS AND BEANS CYCLE

1. Fill the Water Tank to the Max (maximum) fill line with the desired liquid.

2. Turn the Power Switch to the ON (I) position, located on the left side of the appliance.

3. Select the Bean type by tapping the selection on the screen.

4. Add the desired beans or lentils to the Ceramic Pot. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically sense the weight of the food when pouring it into the Ceramic Pot.
   NOTE: Liquid should not be added at this step as it will alter weight scale performance.
   The Water Tank should be filled prior as per step 1, or alternative liquid can be added after step 6.
   TIP: While on the weight screen, the units of measure (cups/oz/g) can be changed on the screen by tapping the 3 dots on the right.

5. If the food has already been added, remove the Ceramic Pot for 3 seconds and reinsert pot in the cooker.
   NOTE: Adding food without selecting the cook mode first will limit the unit of measurement to ounces or grams only. Cups is not available with this method. For best results, level the food inside the pot for even cooking.

10. When cooking is about to complete, a countdown timer will appear and audibly notify you when cooking has been completed. When finished, the Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically switch to KEEP WARM mode for 6 hours.
    NOTE: Beans and lentils will have cooking water remaining in pot. Drain pot before serving food.
    IMPORTANT: The Ceramic Pot will be hot. To remove, use pot holders.

CUSTOM CYCLE SETTING

Custom cycle settings are cooking features that allow flexibility for cooking all types rice, or beans to create and save new cooking algorithms.

1. Turn the Power Switch to the ON (I) position, located on the left side of the appliance.

2. The CUSTOM CYCLES are located on the main menu. Select the desired custom cycle by tapping on the selection of the screen to proceed.

3. Select the type of custom cycle. Choose between CUSTOM RICE, CUSTOM BEAN, CUSTOM SMALL GRAIN, and CUSTOM LARGE GRAIN.
   NOTE: Large grain examples are Barley, Farro, Spelt, and Kamut. Small grain examples are Buckwheat, Sorghum, Couscous, and Amaranth.

4. Add desired food to the Ceramic Pot. The Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically sense the weight of the food when pouring it into the Ceramic Pot.
   TIP: While on the weight screen, the units of measure (cups/oz/g) can be changed on the screen by tapping the 3 dots on the right.

5. If the food has already been added, remove the Ceramic Pot for 3 seconds and reinsert pot in the cooker.
   NOTE: Adding food without selecting the cook mode first will limit the unit of measurement to ounces or grams only. Cups is not available with this method. For best results, level the food inside the pot for even cooking.

6. Select food preparation, liquid type, and food texture on the screen.
   OPTIONAL: If water was selected as a liquid type, you can delay the use of the Water Tank to dispense water into the unit to cook and finish cooking at a later time by using the DELAYED COOK feature. This can be set for up to 24 hours.

7. If too little food is added, the letters will flash red and the message “Please add more food to the pot” will appear. Once completed, the scale screen will appear.

8. Add the desired liquid to the Ceramic Pot and follow the measurements on the screen. Close the Lid and tap the START option.

9. The screen will show an estimated cook time and the KEEP WARM option. This option can be turned off if desired.

10. When cooking is about to complete, a countdown timer will appear and audibly notify you when cooking has been completed. When finished, the Grain and Rice Cooker will automatically switch to KEEP WARM mode for 6 hours.
    IMPORTANT: The Ceramic Pot will be hot. To remove, use pot holders.

11. To save a custom setting as a favorite: Select the Save option during the KEEP WARM stage. Add the name and select the “ ” icon in the upper right hand corner. Saved favorites will appear under the custom cycle setting for future use.

CARE AND CLEANING

CLEANING THE GRAIN AND RICE COOKER

IMPORTANT: Unplug the appliance from the outlet before cleaning. Allow the appliance to cool completely before removing/adding parts and before cleaning the appliance.

Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads. They could scratch the surface.

Wipe the outside of the Grain and Rice Cooker with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
A non-abrasive liquid cleaner may be used for stubborn stains.

The ceramic non-stick coating of the Grain and Rice Cooker pot is scratch- resistant. However, abusive usage (dropping or hard impact with utensils) can chip or crack the ceramic coating.

CLEANING CYCLE

Automated cleaning: The Grain and Rice Cooker has two automated cleaning modes:

1. Select the CLEAN option from the main menu.
2. Select the DESCALE or PRE-WASH POT mode function to start the cleaning cycle process.

The DESCALE cycle utilizes water and vinegar to flush-out any mineral deposits in the internal plumbing on a periodic basis (every 2-4 months).

The PRE-WASH POST cycle utilizes a heated soak feature to loosen or remove residue on the sides of the bowl. Once the cycle has finished, drain the pot in the sink to continue cleaning in either the sink or dishwasher.
Cleaning the pump through DESCALE can be done in two stages:

1. Clean with a vinegar/water mix: Fill Water Tank with vinegar to the Half line and water to the Max (maximum) line on the Water Tank.
2. Flushing the system: Fill Water Tank with water to Half line to flush the water and vinegar solution out of the system.

NOTE: Only water or vinegar should be used in the Water Tank when cleaning. If any other
liquid was used in the Water Tank to pump, please flush the pump to remove residue.
Manual cleaning: Remove the Ceramic Pot, Inner Lid, and Steam Collector to clean. Select “CLEAN INNER LID” under the Clean modes on the main menu to review how to disassemble internal components for cleaning maintenance.
Dishwasher-safe: The Ceramic Pot, Inner Lid, Steam Collector, Water Tank, Water Tank Lid, and Steam Basket are all dishwasher-safe.
NOTE: The Ceramic Pot is dishwasher-safe, but hand washing in hot, soapy water is recommended to maximize the life of the non-stick coating.
TIP: Clean the Ceramic Pot, Inner Lid, and Steam Collector after every cycle.

KITCHENAID® PRODUCT WARRANTY FOR THE 50 UNITED STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, PUERTO RICO, AND CANADA

This limited warranty extends to the original purchaser and any succeeding owner for the product operated in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

Length of Warranty: One Year Limited Warranty from date of delivery.

Hassle-Free Replacement of your product. See the “Arranging for Service” section in this warranty for details on how to arrange for service, or call the Customer eXperience Center toll-free at 1-800-541-6390.
OR
The replacement parts and repair labor costs to correct defects in materials and workmanship that existed at the time this product was purchased. Service will be provided by an Authorized KitchenAid Service Center.

2. KitchenAid Will Not Pay for (What is Not Covered By This Limited Warranty):
   a) Commercial, non-residential, or multiple family use or use inconsistent with product instructions and manuals.
   b) Defects or damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire flood, or acts of God.
   c) Any shipping or handling costs to deliver your product to an Authorized Service Center.
   d) Replacement parts or repair labor costs for the product operated outside the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
   e) Damages, defects, or repairs caused by unauthorized servicers or use of non-genuine or third-party parts; however, use of unauthorized service providers or non-genuine or third-party parts will not void this warranty.
   f) Cosmetic damage (e.g., scratches, dents, chips, and other damage to finishes), unless damage results from defects in materials and workmanship and is reported to KitchenAid within 30 days from date of delivery.
   g) Discoloration, rust or oxidation of surfaces resulting from caustic or corrosive environments (e.g., high salt concentrations, high moisture or humidity or exposure to chemicals).
   h) Products with original, factory-installed model/serial numbers removed, altered or not easily determined.
   i) Incidental or consequential damages resulting from product failure.
   j) Consumable parts or accessories.

3. DISCLAIMER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES
   Implied warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability or implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to ten years or the shortest period allowed by law. Some states and provinces do not allow limitations on the duration of implied warranties of merchantability or fitness, so this limitation may not apply to you.

4. HOW STATE LAW APPLIES
   This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state or province to province. Some states and provinces, such as California, do not allow for limitations on the date your warranty coverage begins, so this limitation may not apply to you.
