Rubber Tired Tracked Equipment

The Company’s owns, operates, and maintains a vast equipment fleet. Most of the fleet has equipment specific policies in this safety manual. The policies and procedures that follow apply to miscellaneous rubber-tired and tracked equipment units for which a specific Company policy is not provided.

REMEMBER
THE CARE AND JUDGMENT YOU USE WHILE OPERATING YOUR MACHINE DETERMINE YOUR SAFETY, AND THE SAFETY OF THOSE AROUND YOU.

BEFORE STARTING

  • Inspect the entire machine to be sure it is in good operating condition.
  • Check tires/tracks (if applicable) for excessive wear and proper inflation.
  • Check all fluid levels.
  • Never operate a machine which is new to you without first being instructed in its proper operations.
  • Never start a machine if there is a warning tag on the starting switch or engine starting controls.
  • Never attempt to start engine except from operator’s station.
  • Never attempt to operate the controls except from the operator’s station.
  • Be sure the work area is safe.

START-UP

  • Always use seatbelts if your machine is equipped with a Roll Over-Protection-Structure.
  • Know proper starting procedure.
  • Check all gauges for proper readings.
  • Check operation of service and parking brake.
  • Use 3 points of contact to mount and dismount equipment.

OPERATIONS

  • Never mount or dismount a machine that is moving.
  • Constantly check your work area for potential hazards.
  • Do not operate the machine if the controls malfunction.
  • Never allow unqualified or unauthorized personnel to ride on the machine.
  • Never enter or place any part of your body in the hinge area or other pinch areas of an articulated machine while the engine is running, or when there is any chance another person might start the engine.
  • Never abuse your machine. Misuse or abuse can cause an accident.
  • Never speed and never coast in neutral.
  • Always look in all directions before reversing your direction of travel.

SHUT DOWN

  • Park on level ground whenever possible. When not possible, position the machine at right angles to the slope.
  • Know the proper shut-down procedure for your machine. Follow the manufacturers operation manual for your machine.
  • Remove the key(s) to prevent unauthorized starting and movement, and position and lock and anti-vandalism devices.
  • Never dismount from your machine until it is fully stopped, and the engine is shut off.
