LIST OF TOOLS NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION

  • ¼” Phillips Head screwdriver
  • Extension cord (if necessary)
  • Measuring tape
  • Chalk line
  • Marker or white chalk
  • Hammer or rubber mallet
  • Square and level or WaterWarden Drill Guide

BASIC INSTALLATION:

  1. Install a Safety Fence 24” from the pool’s edge.
  2.  Snap a chalk line around the perimeter of the pool to indicate the fence location.
  3. Locate the drilling guide and cut out the 3 circled holes – A, B, C (see Fig. 1).
  4. Determine where your safety fence will begin:
    • a) If a pool safety gate has been installed, post A, hole “C” is the location of the first fence pole (see Fig 2).
    • b) If you have not installed a safety gate, mark an “X” for the placement of the first pole.
  5. Align hole “A” of the drilling guide (hole “A” is the first hole on the left of the guide, see Fig 1) with hole “C” or spot “X”.
  6. All measurements on the Drilling Guide are from the center of the circle.
  7. Verify drilling guide is straight and align with the chalk line.
  8. Mark hole “B” on the drilling guide to complete the first section. Fence poles should be 36” apart. (Hole “B” is the second hole from the left to right of the Drilling Guide, see Fig 1)
  9. At the last section of fence (12 ft), mark holes “B” and “C”. Hole B and C are 2” apart. (Hole “C” is the last hole on the right of the Drilling Guide, see Fig. 1)
  10. Hole “C” will align with hole “A” as the first pole in the next fence section (see Fig. 3).
  11. Before drilling holes, we recommend using a square and level or WaterWarden Drill guide to assist with the proper angles of marked holes. Angle the drilling of holes in the following manner:
    • a) Holes for a straight run of fencing should be drilled at a 90° to the deck so the poles will be plumb.
    • b) Holes for an outside curve should be angled 2° to 3° away from the pool. Very tight curves may require an angle up to 4°.
    • c) Holes on the inside curve of the pool should be angled 2° to 3° toward the pool. Very tight curves may require an angle of up to 4°.
    • d) See Fig. 4.
  12. Drill holes “A”, “B” and “C”. Holes should be drilled to a depth of 4”.
  13. Continue around the entire pool using the drilling guide and following the chalk line. Ensure the fence is 24” from the edge of the pool.
  14. When you reach a corner, it is not recommended to design 90° corners within the mesh fence section (between 2 poles). You can modify the fence sections to meet the proper measurement requirements.
  15. Modifying fence sections to make custom-size panels:
    • a. Lay out mesh on a flat surface and ensure the mesh is tight and straight in all directions.
    • b. Decide the width of the custom panel.
    • c. Mark the desired length on the mesh with a chalk line, then add 4” to your measurement before cutting.
    • d. Use scissors or a utlilty knife, to carefully cut mesh to the determined width. We recommend using a straight edge to ensure cuts remain straight.
    • e. Remove the netting with a ¼” Phillips screwdriver on the detached pole.
    • f. Fold the extra fabric back and under leaving ½” longer than the chalk line.
    • g. Re-attach mesh to the pole along the chalk line, ensuring the fabric is sandwiched in between the pole and the trim.
    • h. Trim away the excess fabric from the pole edge.
    • i. Use a heat source to melt the cut edge of the mesh to prevent fraying.
  16. Clear the holes of drilling dust and insert the plastic sleeve into each hole and tap gently with a hammer or mallet.
  17.  Insert the fence poles into the plastic feet. We recommend installing the fence with screws holding the netting facing away from the pool.
  18. Fasten each 12 ft section with the included Safety Latch to the eye hook on the next 12 ft fence (Fig. 3).
  19. If installing your Safety Fence without a Safety Gate, you can use the extra plastic foot included to drill an additional 4” deep hole near the fence opening to allow for continuous access to your pool. Drill the hole near the fence opening, roll up the last section of your fence, and insert the pole in the new hole.
  20. If the WaterWarden fence will be removed for an extended period, use the enclosed caps to protect the plastic feet and ensure the holes will not fill with dirt or debris. Remove the fence poles leaving the plastic feet in the ground and insert the plastic cap in the top of the foot.

Illustration of Pole Angles for Curved or Free Form Pools:

INSTALLATION FOR CURVED OR FREE-FORM POOL

  1. Installing Safety Fence around a curved pool requires specific measuring of angles and distances.
  2. We recommend surrounding your curved pool with a rectangular installation design to avoid the additional measurements.
  3. Read through Basic Instructions to understand the general method of installing your pool Safety Fence.
  4. Mark all holes with chalk before drilling
  5. When marking the holes around a curve run of fence, the holes should be drilled ¼” closer on the outside of the curve and ¼” further apart on the inside of the curve to ensure there will be no slack in the fence mesh.
  6. Angle the drilling of holes based on the following guidelines using a square and level or WaterWarden Drill Guide:
    • a. Holes for a straight run of fencing should be drilled at a 90° angle to the deck so the poles will be plumb.
    • b. Holes for an outside curve should be angled 2° to 3° away from the pool. Very tight curves may require an angle up to 4°.
    • c. Holes on the inside curve of the pool should be angled 2° to 3° toward the pool. Very tight curves may require an angle of up to 4°.
    • d. See Fig. 4.
  7. Repeat steps 3 to 5 around the perimeter of pool. Ensure all hole marks are 24” from pool edge and at the proper angle.
