Troubleshooting
If any errors or faults occur during operation, refer to the following table for possible solutions:
Error | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Einblasfehler | Blowing error | If the error persists, contact customer service. |
Signalgeber Fehler | Signal transmitter error | If the error persists, contact |
customer service.
Fehler Datum Zeit| Error in date and time| If the error persists, contact
customer service. The incorrect
date/time values will be stored in the memory along with the
current measurement.
Commissioning
Ensure the calibration sticker on the device has not reached or exceeded
the marked date. Calibration and maintenance must only be performed by
authorized personnel from EnviteC.
Maintenance
The device must undergo calibration and maintenance by authorized
professional personnel every six months (with protocol).
Disposal
In accordance with Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE), the electronic and electrical equipment must be disposed of properly by the manufacturer after dismantling.
Intended Use and Application Areas
The AlcoQuant 6020 is designed for the rapid and precise determination of breath alcohol concentration and is intended for use in the following areas:
- Routine checks by the police
- Law enforcement
- Workplace safety
Device and Function Description
The AlcoQuant 6020 determines the breath alcohol content by analyzing the volume of breath provided by the subject and takes a sample of 1.2 liters (standard setting).
The device includes a specialized alcohol-only sensor with specific response characteristics and selectivity, ensuring that influences from other substances in the exhaled air such as acetone or eucalyptol are negligible due to the electrochemical measurement principle used.
The device contains the latest technologies to prevent incorrect measurements and to ensure the highest measurement accuracy. This includes constant control of functions and components such as device temperature, battery, alcohol sensor, internal memory, and calibration intervals.

Labels and Symbols
Observe the instruction manual, manufacturing date, product number, serial
number, application part type B, and disposal instructions.
Turning On and Off
To turn on, hold the button for approximately 1 second. The device performs
a self-test of internal functions and displays the device version, software
version, and calibration date. After about 3 seconds, the device is ready for
active measurement mode.
To turn off, hold the button for approximately 3 seconds. If no measurement or
button operation occurs within 2.5 minutes, the device turns off
automatically.
Warnings
- Tobacco smoke can damage the measurement system. Wait at least 5 minutes after smoking before measuring.
- Mouth alcohol can falsify the measurement. Ensure no alcohol consumption has occurred at least 15 minutes prior to testing.
- The subject should breathe normally before measurement, not hyperventilate, as this can temporarily change the breath alcohol concentration and distort the measurement.
Menu Operation
After turning on the device, it starts in “active measurement mode”. Various menu options like “last measurement value”, “settings”, and “counter” are available for selection and confirmation.
Measurement in Active Mode
Active mode is used for accurate determination of alcohol concentration in exhaled air, ensuring the sensor only receives deep lung air. This is necessary because there is a direct correlation between the alcohol content of deep lung air and blood alcohol content.
An original EnviteC mouthpiece must be used for each measurement in active mode, ensuring hygiene and accuracy.
Possible Errors and Solutions
If the air stream during the blowing process is interrupted, an error message “Blowing error” will be displayed. The measurement must be repeated.
- For each measurement in active mode, a new mouthpiece must be used.
- The outlet opening must remain free during the blowing process, otherwise the measurement will be falsified.
- If the subject’s behavior or residual mouth alcohol is conspicuous, the device must be checked by authorized service personnel.
- Patients with reduced lung volume may not reach the necessary volume of 1.2 liters. In such cases, a passive measurement mode (without mouthpiece) can be used.
Data Memory
The device has a data memory capable of storing 9,999 measurement sets with
date, time, and test number. The memory retains its information even when
batteries are changed.
Maintenance / Device Care
Calibration
The device must be calibrated and checked every six months, including
checking the proper function of the device and calibration verification.
Cleaning and Disinfection
Cleaning should only be done with a damp cloth and mild cleaning agent. For disinfection, use a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol and wipe without excessive pressure according to EN 60601-1. After cleaning/disinfection with alcohol, a waiting time of at least 15 minutes must be observed before the next measurement.
Battery Replacement
A repeating signal and the display message “Change battery” indicate that the batteries need to be replaced. The device will turn off after 10 seconds. Batteries can be replaced by lightly pressing the battery compartment cover to release the locking mechanism and then removing the cover.
Disposal of Device, Alcohol Sensor, Batteries
The device and alcohol sensor must not be disposed of with household waste.
Please send both with the keyword “Disposal” back to EnviteC. Batteries must
be disposed of according to the European battery directive.
Troubleshooting and Rectification
Each error is indicated acoustically by a short double signal and visually
either by the yellow LED (error that does not impede measurement) or by the
red LED (error that impedes measurement) and leads to the corresponding error
message in the display.
- User error
- Blowing error
- Signal generator error
- LED error
- Time and date error
