FOREWORD, RELEVANT TO SAFETY AND WARRANTY

This manual contains important precautions, warnings and information for the correct functioning of the Scooter during the entire life cycle. For this reason it is very important that it is read CAREFULLY before using the Scooter.

  •  The Scooter is delivered in perfect state of maintenance, accompanied by the relative instruction manual.
  • Anyone preparing to use the Scooter is considered to have undergone specific training, certified by a qualified agency, for the conduct of the Scooter.
  •  Follow the instructions indicated in this manual for the correct use of the Scooter.
  • Incorrect use of the Scooter or lack of maintenance can lead to dangerous operations and can cause injury /death or loss.

SUEX s.r.l. declines any responsibility for injuries / death and / or losses consequent to the improper use of the Scooter or to the lack of maintenance. The Scooter and its components, specifically the battery and the charger, are intended for an adult and expert user, who has carefully read the battery recharging and use manual. Due to constant technological developments, the Scooter SUEX s.r.l. can be changed at any time without notice.

The complete knowledge of the correct use and management of the batteries, which derives from the reading and understanding of what is described in the specific publication, is ESSENTIAL AND MANDATORY PREREQUISITE for the use of the Scooter.

DOCUMENT STRUCTURE AND SIGNS ADOPTED

This manual describes and explains the aspects necessary for the correct use, perfect maintenance in operation of the of the underwater Scooter XK.
The manual is divided into different sections, each one dedicated to a single topic.
Each section, if necessary, contains respective subsections, dedicate to the description of all the details needed to the correct understanding of the operations and the actions to be carried out.
When useful, drawings or diagrams are shown for illustrative purposes to allow for the correct identification of parts and the actions to be performed.
Pay special attention to the hazard signs in this manual. Warning signs that are placed next to a paragraph indicate respectively:

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATING PRINCIPLE

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

The underwater Scooter (XK – 71382) consists of a perfectly hermetic hollow body, with a hydrodynamic shape, (Fig.1), inside which the electric motor, the rechargeable batteries and the speed reducer necessary to move a propeller that provides a propulsive thrust.

PARTS DESCRIPTION

On the front there is a handle (4 ) which is used for gripping and lifting the Scooter and the nosecone (8) whose opening gives access to the battery compartment. The opening of the nosecone is possible by turning the closing handwheel (9) counterclockwise. In the rear portion, there is a manoeuvring handle (1), where the trigger (2) is integrated which, by controlling a magnetic piston (3), allows the control of the rotation of the propeller. The propeller (10) is located at the rear end which, by turning, generates the propulsion thrust, the latter being protected by a radial circular band which constitutes the flow conveyor (5). Always at the rear there are the main switch (6) which disconnects the power supply and the speed adjustment knob (7).SUEX XK 71382 Underwater Scooter 01

CONTENT OF THE PACKAGE AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE PRODUCT

Verify that the following components are present in the package:

  •  One underwater Scooter
  •  One battery
  •  One battery charger
  •  One accessory kit (which includes a salt water ballast).

  • The Scooter is uniquely identified by the serial number engraved at the back of Scooter.
  • The battery has a serial number and the certification code engraved on the battery top lid.
  • These numbers are to be quoted whenever technical assistance or spare parts are required.

INTENDED USE

The Scooter manufactured by SUEX s.r.l. has been designed and built for towing a diver underwater. The diver is assumed as being part of an army and be professionally trained to the diving practice.

DANGER

  • The Scooter has been designed, sized and manufactured for the sole purpose described above. Any other use has to be considered inappropriate and potentially DANGEROUS.
  • The Scooter has been designed, sized and manufactured for the sole purpose described above. Any other use or operation that does not comply with the instructions contained in this manual, may damage the Scooter. This would prevent the conditions for which it has been designed and built from being achieved, and may compromise its technical and safety characteristics.
  • The manufacturer shall not be liable for damage to persons and/or objects deriving from inappropriate use of the vehicle.
  • The SCOOTER IS NOT A LIFE-SAVING DEVICE: the diver must always plan the dive in full safety conditions, without relying on the Scooter functioning support for surviving.
  • Any ALTERATION that may substantially modify the Scooter functioning or intended purpose:
    • is forbitten
    • is potentially dangerous
    • is ground for exclusion from the warranty.

SUEX is not liable for damage to persons and / or things deriving from improper use.

SAFETY INFORMATION

SIGNALING PLATE

The following label is glued on the Scooter, it must never be removed and in case of illegibility it must be replaced with a new one to be requested from SUEX assistance. The removal of this label implies the non-responsibility of SUEX s.r.l. for accidents occurring as a result of conduct held in contravention of the indications contained therein.

TRAINING

To use the Scooter the diver must have obtained the necessary certification from qualified agencies.
A lot of information is also available to the kind customers on the site: www.suex.it.

EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION, TRIM AND RIDING POSITION

The SUEX Scooter are of the TOW BEHIND type: ideal use requires that the diver be towed while remaining behind the Scooter.
The diver must be adequately trained to face and manage his dive safely even in the event of a Scooter failure. The user must be able to leave the Scooter at any time and with extreme ease.
The diver must always carry a cutting device with him in the event that it is necessary to cut the tow cable that may be used.

P ROPER WAYS TO CONNECT THE SCOOTER TO THE DIVER: HARNESS AND TOW CORD
The Scooter must be connected to the diver via a cable and a quick release carabiner.
Use the correct towing harness (see SUEX accessories) and the two cords provided.

The tow cord must be connected to the Scooter on the two holes near the handle on the propeller conveyor, see the following images.

  • Rope fastening to the left handle
  • Fixing to the right handle, with adjustable knot.

CAUTION :
Check that the length of the tow cord, between the diver and the scooter, is at least 1 m: a shorter distance could cause the conveyor to be tensioned enough to damage it.

DIVER POSITION
The figure above shows a diver in a technical configuration with a correct position of the Scooter with respect to the person. Different positions would reduce efficiency in advancement.
For good traction efficiency the length of the tow rope must be adjusted taking into account the build of the diver: it is very important to be able to obtain the position shown above.

DANGER
Users have to make sure that the equipment (hoses, regulators, pony bottles, pressure gauges, audible alarms, flashlights and pertinent cables, reels, etc) do not dangle and cannot get into contact with the propeller and get entangled creating serious hazard situations.

WARNING
Correct equipment configuration is a key factor for the safe diving in general and it becomes vital when diving with the Scooter. As a rule, the type and position of the diving equipment should guarantee perfect streamlining and no elements should protrude or be left dangling.

WRONG WAYS TO CONNECT THE SCOOTER TO THE DIVER
DANGER
These include cords with knots, chains and elastic cords, to name a few, that do not allow the Scooter to be immediately abandoned in the event of emergency! They are forbidden and to be considered potentially dangerous!

PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS

The following operations must be carried out after a complete and careful reading of the instruction manual by adequately trained personnel.
Upon receipt of the Scooter after checking the integrity of the packaging and the contents of the package:

  • Check that the Scooter is hermetically sealed: that there are no spaces between the various components;
  • Proceed with charging the battery (see chapter “Battery”);
  • Insert the sea ballast in the case of immersion in salt water (see chapter: “Setting up the Scooter during immersion”).
SCOOTER START UP

Once the above mentioned preliminary operations are carried out;

  • Submerge the Scooter
  • Verify that the propeller is free from any obstructions;
  • Turn the main switch to the ON position (6 – Fig.1);
  • Hold the Scooter (by the handle (1));
  • Press the trigger (2), the Scooter starts to move;
  • Releasing the trigger, the Scooter stops;
  • The dive begins.

BATTERY

For more details, see the user manual relating to the battery which is an integral part of this document.

OPENING THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT

Put the Scooter in vertical position on the shroud (5) on a flat surface.
Turn the front fastening knob (9) counter-clockwise. When rotating the knob the nosecone (8 – Fig.1) starts to lift. Continue rotating the knob until the nosecone detaches from the body.

SUEX XK 71382 Underwater Scooter 13 Opening the battery compartmentSUEX XK 71382 Underwater Scooter 14 Once the nosecone has been removed, unscrew the ring nuts (11 – Fig. 2 and 3), extract the plate (12), remove the drop drap rings (11A) and remove the battery (14) by pulling it upwards. When the battery is completely removed, disconnect the red connector (15).

RECHARGING THE BATTERY

WARNING
The battery should only be recharged using the special battery charger supplied.

To recharge the battery, remove the battery (14) from the Scooter (Fig. 3), put it in a safe place away from people and flammable objects, unscrew the cap of the charging connector (24 ), connect the socket battery charger power supply to the mains and connect the charging connector (26) to the battery charger (see Battery charger user manual). At the end of charging, disconnect the battery charger and screw the cap (24) of the connector (26) back on. Insert the battery into the scooter only if you intend to use it.

IMPORTANT NOTE!
Excessive discharge can irreparably damage the battery.

CAUTION
When the battery is not used for a long period of time, it is advisable to check the state of balance of the cells every 2 months.
The cell balance status can be checked using the Calypso App:

  • Connect to the battery and read the status.
  • Observe the coloured bars at the bottom of the screen: the presence of an unaligned and inferior cell value is a symptom of an imbalance.
  • The recovery of the imbalance is favoured by the use of the battery (discharge / charge), otherwise long periods of non-use can lead to imbalance.
  • If there is an imbalance, there may be an early interruption of the charging cycle and therefore an unexpected shortness of charging times may occur (the charger shows the end of charging after a short time) it is therefore necessary to work on recovering any imbalance.
BATTERY GAUGE DISCLAIMER

When the ON / OFF switch is in the ON position, a control of the scooter’s electronics is activated and the LEDs relating to the charge indicator light up in various sequences.
To view the state of battery charge, activate the Scooter trigger, after a few seconds from switching on, the lit LEDs will be displayed: the charge level varies according to the quantity of lit LEDs.
For example with Li ion Battery:
9 LEDs on: battery charge from 90% to 100%
8 LEDs on: battery charge from 80% to 90%
7 LEDs on: battery charge between 70% and 80% and so on …

  • The charge indicator on board the Scooter or its display on an external device (only for Li ion batteries) provides an approximate indication of the battery charge status.
  • The charge indicator on the Scooter provides an approximate indication of the state of charge of the battery.
  • The battery is subject to a decrease in its capacity due to various factors including the main ones: age, use and environmental conditions. For example, two batteries can indicate the same state of charge but have very different durations in use due to the above factors.
  • A particularly heavy use or, on the contrary, poor use, with a few complete charge / discharge cycles, particular environmental factors, damage to the battery can lead to an early decay of its effective capacity and therefore of its duration during use, as well as false readings of the state of charge.
  • The same battery in different environmental situations can have different durations.
  • Depending on the general condition of the battery and its use, the various sectors that indicate the state of charge during use may not accurately reflect the residual state of charge of the battery.
  • For these reasons, before each dive, it is advisable to charge the battery to 100% until the charger indicates the end of the charge.
  • Do not use the charge indicator as a tool to program the dive or the duration of the dive during its course, but program the dive with the usual safety parameters.

SUEX s.r.l. disclaims any responsibility for the failure or incorrect evaluation of the remaining battery charge that has led to incorrect assessments regarding the autonomy of the Scooter.
Remember that the Scooter must be only an aid to diving and NOT A MEANS OF RESCUE!

INSERTING THE BATTERY

To insert the Battery, place the Scooter vertically and repeat the battery extraction operation exactly in reverse order:

CLOSING THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT

Always with the scooter upright on the guard, carefully check that the closing O-ring gasket (19 ) is inserted in its seat, clean and adequately lubricated with Vaseline oil. Also check the cleanliness of the body seat (20), if necessary wipe with a clean micro-fibre cloth to remove dust or sand. Insert the bow cap (8) by matching the screw (18) with the hole (17). Turn the handwheel (9) clockwise until completely closed without over tightening using only the force of two fingers.

CORRECT USE

After the preliminary operations, proceed as follows to start the Scooter:

  • Always make sure that the switch (6 – Fig.1) is in the OFF position,
  • Immerse the Scooter in water and check that there are no foreign bodies between the propeller blades. Otherwise, with the switch in the OFF position, remove the Scooter from the water and free the propeller blades from the foreign object.

DANGER

  • In spite the propeller is equipped with a safety clutch to reduce the risk, using the hands or other parts of the body is a potentially danger operation.
  • For this reason absolutely necessary to AVOID TO INTRODUCING HANDS or other parts of the body, INTO THE PROPELLER zone.
  • In case access here is needed for cleaning or undesired objects removal, use a stick or a suitable tool.
  • Turn the switch (6 – Fig.1) clockwise, completely, without forcing.
  • Grip the handle of the Scooter (1) or, if used, hook the carabiner to the towing harness.
  • Press the trigger (2) until the engine starts.
  • To stop the propeller, release the trigger (2).

CAUTION:

  • By pressing the trigger, the propeller begins to rotate and the Scooter begins to advance;
  • When the trigger is pulled, the Scooter will not start IF the main switch is turned to one of two speeds.

To change the speed of the Scooter, turn the knob (7 – Fig.1): turn clockwise to drive at moderate speed; rotate counterclockwise to increase speed (as shown in the following figure). This change of speed can be carried out at any time, even while diving.
When the Scooter is not in use, turn off the main switch (6) by turning it anticlockwise until it switches off.

SCOOTER CONTROLS

SWITCH

The main switch (6 ) cuts off the battery power supply to the motor. The use of the switch prevents accidental operation of the Scooter.

REVOLVING HANDLE AND CRUISE CONTROL

  • In the control device we find: the trigger (43D), a fixing knob (43A) and a relative knob locking screw, a handle (43B), an accessory fixing knob (43C), two seats for accessories (46) and cruise control (43).
  • The handle has four positions: two for use (right or left) and two for lifting (up or down).
  • As for use, the handle can be positioned on the right or on the left.
  • To move the handle: unscrew the knob (43A) without removing it, rotate the handle, repositioning it on the opposite side and screw the knob back on.
  • To make it easier to lift the Scooter, the handle can be positioned at the top or bottom, by unscrewing the knob (43A) without extracting it, rotate the handle to the desired position and screw the knob back on.
  • The seat (46) is useful if the optional accessories are used (for more details visit the website: www.suex.it).
  • The cruise control knob (43 ) can be mounted either to the right or to the left of the handle.

The Scooter, as shown in the figure below, has two speeds:

  • Position a): OFF;
  • Position b): First speed adjustable using the speed adjustment knob (7 – Fig.1);

WARNING
When turning the Main switch ON, be sure that nor the trigger is pulled (fig. up – b/c) or the cruise control knob is engaged.
When the trigger is pulled or cruise control knob is engaged the Scooter does not start even when the Main ON/OFF switch is in ON position.
DANGER

  • The diver must be able, at any time, to intervene on the cruise control knob, on the trigger and on the switch in order to avoid any type of collision or dragging the diver into dangerous areas.

  • The knob cruise control (43 – Fig.7), must only be used under the diver’s maximum control. The knob, trigger or DPV ignition switch must be accessible at all times to avoid any type of collision or driver dragging risks in hazardous areas.

  • The knob must only be used to lock speed, adjusted to 50% of available power at best. Locking Scooter ignition at maximum power is potentially hazardous.

  • During the normal Scooter use the knob must be positioned in such a way as to allow the trigger to move freely and will not interfere the normal return of the trigger.
    Only use the knob with fingers.

  • In any case, pay the utmost ATTENTION during CRUISE CONTROL KNOB use since this operation could be potentially HAZARDOUS.

SCOOTER DIVING SETTINGS

The trim of the Scooter must be NEUTRAL and in an almost horizontal position. This means that it must remain at the desired depth without sinking or floating and in a horizontal position.
The Scooter is supplied with neutral buoyancy in fresh water.
By adding the sea ballast (23 ), supplied, the Scooter can be adapted for use in salt water.

INSERTING THE BALLAST

To insert the sea ballast (23) act as follows:

  • Remove the hood and the battery from the scooter (see paragraph “Opening the battery compartment”);
  • Unscrew the screws A
  • Insert the sea ballast (23) in its housing
  • Retighten the screws;
  • Insert the battery (taking care to connect the red connector if you intend to use the scooter immediately);
  • Screw the ring nut (11) and close the Scooter (see paragraph “Closing the battery compartment”).

Entering the water is one of the most delicate moments in the dive. Various factors like the change in temperature, use of scuba equipment, the weight of the equipment and other difficulties make the addition of the Scooter an inevitable added task loading.

ENTERING THE WATER WITH THE SCOOTER

DANGER

  • Before turning on or using the Scooter, make sure that all the equipment in use for the dive is correctly positioned and in good working order. Only use the Scooter after completing these checks. Incorrect dive preparation is highly dangerous and, in some situations, the Scooter may represent an additional hazard.

  • Pay particular attention when entering rough sea since waves could lift and launch the Scooter against the diver with even fatal consequences. Never activate the Scooter until the diver is in the water and prepared to begin the dive.
    AFTER entering the water and have submersed the Scooter, the main switch can be switched ON.

  • The Scooter must only be switched on when it is in the water: spinning the propeller in the air can be dangerous and damage the hydraulic seal of the motor shaft.

  • Once into the water, pull the trigger (toward the diver) to activate the propeller. Releasing the trigger stops the propeller.

PARKING THE SCOOTER UNDERWATER

When diving you may need to “park” the Scooter to continue the dive with fins only, recovering the Scooter later.

CAUTION
It is strongly recommend to turn the switch in OFF position and leave the Scooter far from areas with currents that could cause the Scooter to collide with rock walls, the sea bottom or boats. Violent collisions could compromise the Scooter’s hermetic seal and irreparably damage it.
During decompression stops turn the Scooter OFF in order to avoid accidental starts and uncontrolled ascent.

DANGER
DO NOT use the Scooter TO MAINTAIN or GET the DECOMPRESSION quote.

DESCENT RATE

The Scooter allows you to accomplish a fast descent rate.

DANGER
AVOID USING the Scooter to increase the descent rate as it can emphasise problems related to the decompression and to the psychophysics acquaintance.

ASCENT RATE
DANGER
The Scooter must NEVER BE USED for VERTICAL ASCENTS. Using it in such a manner may result in an excessively rapid ascent WHICH IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. During the ascent DEACTIVATE IT BY TURNING THE MAIN SWITCH OFF, place it out of the way, and ascend normally.

FREEDIVING USE OF THE SCOOTER
DANGER
Freediving is highly dangerous activity itself. The use of the Scooter for freediving could cause serious accidents. Always be certain and aware of diver capabilities. Adequate training courses are essential for diver safety.

DEPTH AND OPERATING ENVIRONMENTS

DEPTH

DANGER

  • DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM OPERATING DEPTH.
  • It is important to remember that maximum Scooter operating depth refers to the Scooter in perfect working conditions. Collisions, scratches or deformations might significantly reduce this limit.
  • In any case, diving is a VERY DANGEROUS activity, THE USE of the Scooter in SUCH ENVIRONMENTS increases the RISK of IMMERSION.
OVERHEAD OR CONFINED ENVIRONMENTS

DANGER

  • Dives in such environments, where obstacles to movement are present, either due to the ambient itself for dispersed material in the dive area (e.g. debris, ropes, weed or animals) or confining the manouvre space (caves, ice layers, wrecks), are already VERY DANGEROUS.
  • INCORRECT USE of the Scooter IN SUCH ENVIRONMENTS increases the DIVING HAZARDS.
  • Diving in SUCH ENVIRONMENTS requires ADEQUATE TRAINING by QUALIFIED AGENCIES.

The diver must be able to exit the overhead environment without the use of the Scooter.

MUDDY OR SUSPENSION – FILLED ENVIRONMENTS

DANGER

  • These include those environments, obstructed or otherwise, in which visibility may suddenly fall to zero due to the suspension that is created by moving the bed sediment. Dives in these environments are already VERY DANGEROUS.
  • INCORRECT USE of the Scooter in SUCH ENVIRONMENTS increases the DIVING HAZARDS.
  • Diving in SUCH ENVIRONMENTS requires ADEQUATE TRAINING by QUALIFIED AGENCIES.
DIVER POSITION DURING THE DIVE

DANGER

  • The diver’s head or other body parts should never be beyond the propeller conveyor (5 ) where flow is suctioned.
  • Do not direct the flow from the conveyor at you. This hampers the propulsion drive and could move your equipment away from you.
  • Do not ride the Scooter.
  • Do not attach the Scooter to your tanks or their supports in any way.
  • Do not attach the Scooter to your body, legs, arms or other parts in any way.
  • Do not use more than one Scooter simultaneously.
  • Do not start the Scooter with body parts other than your right hand.
  • Do not direct propeller flow at the sea bottom to avoid raising sand or mud.

HAZARDOUS AREA AND RESIDUAL RISKS ON SCOOTER

In spite the propeller is confined into the flow conveyor which constitute a mechanical guard, it is anyway possible to get in contact with the propeller accessing the duct either from its inlet and the outlet opening. At these gates no mechanical guard are installed due to the fact that their presence would hugely obstacle the water stream into the conveyor, highly depleting the efficiency of the vehicle and the Scooter running time as a result.
In case a grid were installed at the inlet section of the conveyor then it would easily obstruct by see weed or other dispersed materials, requiring the diver to stop frequently to clean and this might be not possible in safety condition all the dime during the dive. Neither a grid at the outlet section would be opportune as it would impede any entangling manouvre in case wires, ropes and similar would be wrapped into the propelled, stopping the Scooter. All these scenarios would represent too frequent distractions to the diver, incompatible to the need to pay the continuous and highest attention to all the other safety aspect the sub water environment does require.
The propeller is equipped with a safety clutch. The propeller is also equipped with a safety clutch.

DANGER
Risk of impact, crushing, laceration
For the reasons described before, the risk exists for the Scooter at all the openings of the conveyor. The diver must be always aware of this risk, although mitigated by the presence of the safety clutch between the motor and the propeller, as well as any other person likely to come in contact with the Scooter.
Also because of the conveyor in/out openings around the propeller is possible that flexible and long materials can be driven by the flow and wired around the spinning propeller.

DANGER

  • Entanglement and cut hazards

  • Do not insert any object or body part inside the flow duct, that could obstruct the rotating propeller blades. Maintain a safety distance of at least 40 cm must between the diver’s body and the propeller assembly.

  • Divers with LONG HAIR SHOULD WEAR a hood or other device adapted to contain the hair. Long hair MAY BECOME ENTANGLED IN THE PROPELLER in the event of IMPROPER USE.

  • Avoid object SUCH AS FISHING LINES, DIVING EQUIPMENT, to come in contact WITH the PROPELLER.

  • AVOID any objects such as ropes, fishing lines, underwater equipment, floating toys or any other things that come to visit near the propeller.
    Crusching risk

  • During the closing phase of the body or cap, be careful not to interpose your fingers between the two closing parts.
    Risk of ejection of objects or fragments

  • IN THE FLOW OF WATER EXPELLED FROM THE PROPELLER, SHARP or ABRASIVE SOLID FRAGMENTS may be PRESENT: the diver must wear apparel suitable for PROTECTING THE BODY, HANDS and EYES from POSSIBLE CUTS and ABRASIONS.

  • The use of protective gloves is ALWAYS MANDATORY
    NEVER leave the Scooter unattended specially near CHILDREN. Always turn it off before exiting the water and disconnect the battery as soon as possible (see previous chapters).

SCOOTER FLOODING, SINKING

DANGER

  • In the event of flooding, the scooter will start to tilt downward and thus sinks.
  • In the event of total flooding, the situation could become POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS since the Scooter becomes negative and will start to SINK, DRAGGING THE DIVER DOWN and therefore the Scooter must be immediately ABANDONED.
EXITING THE WATER WITH THE SCOOTER

Exiting the water is another delicate moment in the dive and, in this case too, the addition of the Scooter could be an extra task loading.
DANGER

  • Depending where the dive started, always make sure the Scooter is the last piece of equipment to recovery. Always put diver own safety first.

  • Pay particular attention when exiting rough sea since waves could lift and launch the Scooter against the diver with even fatal consequences.
    HEALTH PROTECTION – LEAD

  • In spite the contact whit the ballast elements is rare and therefore minimal the exposure of humans and environment, the ballast elements contain metallic Lead (inorganic).
    Hazard Statements

  • (H360FD) May damage fertility. May damage the unborn child.

  • (H362) May cause harm to breast-fed children.

  • (H410) Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

SAFETY DEVICES AND SYSTEM ON BOARD

In order to provide the highest safety condition to the user Scooter includes technical solutions and devices designed to eliminate or minimize the risks during the usage.

TORQUE LIMITING DEVICE AT THE PROPELLER

A torque-limiting device is installed between the motor and the propeller. When the resistance felt by the propeller exceeds a certain torque, this device is triggered, preventing the propeller from rotating.
The device will generate a rhythmic sound signalling its insertion.
CAUTION
If this situation occurs:

  • release the trigger immediately,
  • switch off the power by means of the main switch (OFF)
  • free the propeller of the foreign body.

CAUTION
Do not keep the torque limiter that is designed for use in an emergency and keep running for longer than 10 seconds could cause damage.
NEVER lubricate the safety device.
NOTE
It is allowed to extract the foreign body from the propeller during the dive, ONLY IF the conditions of use allow it and in total safety: if not, leave the Scooter.

ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SAFETY SYSTEMS

The electronic engine control board includes:

  • A short circuit emergency fuse (substitution by the maintenance service)
  • Temperature sensor: it slows propeller rotation to a stop, the system automatically restarts when the engine is cooled;
  • Maximum absorbed current sensor: threshold to the maximum current the electrical engine can adsorb, fully automatic, to protect electronic parts;
  • Motor start sensor for trigger without mechanical contacts (the sensor is not reed or mechanical, but inductive).
CUT OFF BATTERY PROTECTION SYSTEM
  • SUEX batteries integrate an electronic protection system inside to prevent the accidental total discharge of the battery itself.
  • The cut-off system is an electronic system design to prevent the battery from the accidental fully discharge; it is placed into the battery and connected in series between the battery elements and the motor.
  • It function is to avoid the scenario of an excessive cells discharge with possible voltage inversion at one or more cells, which consequences would be destructive for the battery pack itself and severely hazardous for people and goods.
  • During the cells discharge the voltage lowers till a threshold value imposed at which the cut-off interrupts the current flow, so impeding a further reduction of the voltage level.
  • When the cut-off activates the battery does no more supply energy to the motor connector.
  • To reset the situation and be able to use the battery again the battery has to be recharged by mean of its proper recharger (see. Charger user instructions) and then reconnected to the Scooter.
  • The cut-off event is to be considered exceptional: it should not occur during normal battery use as the correct Scooter usage does not requires excessive energy drain from the battery.
  • For a complete description of the CUT – OFF, please refer to the battery user manual which completes this manual and forms an integral part of it.

CAUTION:
For the purposes of the operation of the Scooter, it is important that the user is aware of the existence of the Cut-Off, since his intervention determines the immediate stop of the vehicle.

IN CASE OF INTERVENTION OF THE CUT- OFF

In case of intervention of the cut-off system, proceed as follow:

  • Follow the Scooter opening procedure;
  • Disconnect the battery motor power connector;
  • Remove the battery from Scooter;
  • Leave the battery at rest for at least two hours, minimum time needed to allow the battery to cool down and return to the charging standby status;
  • Connect the battery charging connector to the battery charger;
  • Proceed with the recharge as per the battery charger instruction manual.

DANGER
IMPORTANT NOTE!

  • It should also be remembered that when the cut off device intervenes, the Scooter inevitably stops working.
  • This event must in no way be a source of danger for the diver, who will have planned the diving activity, taking into account that the use of the Scooter cannot be considered as a system to safeguard one’s life or to remove oneself from difficult situations.
  • SUEX s.r.l. declines all responsibility following the intervention of the cut off system, in any situation, in dangerous situations or in dives for which the diver has (at his complete risk) entrusted his return to the surface to the Scooter.
  • The Scooter must be considered as an aid to diving and not as a means of rescue.
MAIN SWITCH

The main switch, already described earlier in this manual (see chapter “Scooter controls”), plays a main role, from the point of view of safety, as it separates the battery from the electronic engine control. The switch in the OFF position prevents the possibility of accidental activation of the Scooter.
MECHANICAL CLUTCH ON THE PROPELLER
See Chapter “Prop lock propeller”.
TRIGGER GUARD
The trigger is imprisoned by a guard that forces the diver to insert a finger in the handle to press the trigger and start the Scooter: in this way the start can only occur after a voluntary action from the user.
BY PASS DEVICE
The device called “BY PASS” is a device (50 – Fig. Below) which electrically connects the battery directly to the electric motor, excluding any other component normally used for the electric operation of the Scooter: trigger, speed adjustment, electronic control.
DANGER

  • This device is made with the aim of giving the possibility to use the Scooter even with a possible anomaly to the electronic control or to the command sensor, only and only in that case. The use of this device is potentially dangerous as, once activated, it starts the engine continuously and the only possible control is to switch it off via the main switch or via the same by-pass knob.
  • Remember again that a specific training course is absolutely essential to be able to use the Scooter in absolute safety.
  • Use the by-pass knob ONLY when absolutely necessary.

SUEX XK 71382 Underwater Scooter 24 CORRECT DIVING BEHAVIOR USING THE BY PASS DEVICE

  • If you are diving with companions, it is essential to notify them immediately that your Scooter has a malfunction and that you are about to use the BY PASS. Other divers must remain at a safety distance of at least 6 meters, if visibility does not allow this distance safely, DO NOT USE THE BY PASS and tow the scooter with fins or abandon it.
    DANGER
    During the dive towed by a Scooter that is using the BY PASS system, you must be absolutely sure that all the equipment: gas, regulators and everything essential for your safety in the aquatic environment is in order and functioning, IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO MANAGE MORE MALFUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT, A VERY DANGEROUS situation IS CREATED, with the possibility of even DEATH.

  • While navigating with the use of the BY PASS, the right hand must always be ready to turn the switch knob counterclockwise, IT IS THE MOST DIRECT WAY TO STOP the scooter.

  • While navigating using the BY PASS it is always necessary to be ready to leave the scooter at any time, even cutting the tow rope, ALWAYS REMEMBER to take care of the CARABINER MAINTENANCE and take a SHARP KNIFE or other means to cut with you the rope.

DANGER
If you leave the Scooter free without any restrictions with the BY PASS activated, (the same also applies to the use of the cruise control, see the “Revolving handle” chapter) it will start autonomously and there will be no way to stop it until when the battery is not completely exhausted. It is your full responsibility to leave a Scooter free to hit anything or anyone at great speed and GREAT IMPACT FORCE. SUEX S.r.l. will not be absolutely responsible for any damage to things or people caused either by inappropriate use of the BY PASS or CRUISE CONTROL device or by a Scooter abandoned for free navigation without any constraint to the diver.

OPERATIONS
DANGER
This DEVICE should ONLY be used WHEN DIVING and ONLY if one of the two FOLLOWING ISSUES occurs:

  • Despite the switch rotated to the ON position, the scooter does not start when the trigger is pressed (with the battery charged);

  • Following a collision when diving, the trigger was damaged and can no longer be used.
    NOTE
    If you are ABSOLUTELY SURE to be in the ENVIRONMENTAL and PSYCHOLOGICAL conditions to MANAGE a situation such as a MALFUNCTIONING Scooter, proceed as follows or abandon the Scooter.

  • Rotate the main switch (6 – Fig.1) counter-clockwise and make sure the scooter does not start. (TURNING OFF the Scooter);

  • Fully rotate the By Pass knob (50 – Fig. above) clockwise without forcing;

  • Rotate the main switch (6) clockwise. The scooter starts in continuous mode. If it does not start, the scooter is broken. Abandon or recover it;

  • Rotate the main switch (6) counter-clockwise to stop the scooter.

Turn the scooter on and off using the main switch without forcing.
In normal operating conditions, the By Pass device knob should be ALWAYS FULLY rotated counter-clockwise.

DANGER
The BY PASS device should ONLY be USED if an ELECTRONIC FAULT OCCURS and ONLY during a DIVE. DO NOT USE this device as a normal STARTING PROCEDURE.

WARNING
Once the BY PASS device IS USED, the Scooter MUST be sent to an AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER for the NECESSARY CHECKS and TESTS.

BY PASS KNOB PROTECTION
The by pass knob must be always protected with its special protection click- cap. The special protection click-cap has to be removed only when it is necessary to activate the BY PASS SYSTEM.
Never remove the special protection click-cap for other reasons. It has always to be in place in order to protect the by pass knob against any accidental activation. (51 above).

RUNNING TIME AND SPEED

Running time data is indicative and is nevertheless referred to use:

  • with a Scooter in perfect running order;
  • in moderate environments;
  • in the absence of currents;
  • with an average load (diver with a double tank 12 + 12 liters or oxygen rebreather);
  • in perfect buoyancy conditions.

As a rule the running time must be calculated, an autonomy RESERVE must also be established which will vary according to the type of dive.
In any case, the dive must be programmed taking into account that it can return to the point of emersion without the aid of the Scooter.
As with autonomy, speed also depends on the same factors. The speed compatible with the type of dive must be considered and adjusted to that of the companions.

BLUETOOTH CONNECTION

  • SUEX Scooters are equipped with bluetooth devices that allow to get motor and battery information (if Li-ion battery with Drive system has been installed).
  • These functions are available only out of water and require the Calypso App (available on Google Play & App store).
  • In order to turn the Bluetooth system on, the battery has to be connected to the motor and the Scooter has to be switched ON.
  • In order to read the battery data when the battery is off-board, connect the battery to the charger and plug the charger to the main. Once the Bluetooth devices are ON, the application is ready and the data can be read.
  • First time connection will require Bluetooth pairing of devices and smartphone.
  • The battery with DRIVe system will have an identifier of this type: SB_AAxxxxxxxxxxxx_BT.
  • The motor has a serial number such as AAxxxxxxxxxx.
  • From here on, follow the App instructions.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

  • DO NOT keep the Scooter exposed to SOLAR RADIATION, closed in the car in the sun or exposed to excessive heat, (Max 50° C), it could overheat deforming itself and the couplings may not guarantee the tightness;
  • Avoid shock during the dive
  • Do not direct the means against other divers
  • Do not use it as a stool
  • Do not step on it with your feet
  • Do not let it be used by minors or inexperienced people
  • Do not transport it disassembled or open
  • Do not attempt to stop the propeller with your hands
  • Do not lock the start trigger with gear engaged
  • Do not launch it from the boat or from the shore
  • Do not tow it with boats or motor vehicles
  • Do not disassemble it
  • Do not run it dry on the surface
  • Do not wet the electrical connectors
  • Do not short circuit the battery
  • Do not recharge the batteries with a charger other than the one supplied
  • Do not operate the vehicle by holding the propeller or with objects between the blades
  • Do not disconnect the cables from the connector or reverse their polarity
  • Do not wet the internal parts of the Scooter or the batteries.

CLEANING AND PREPARATION FOR STORAGE

After use, the Scooter must be rinsed with plenty of fresh water (neutral detergent can also be used), taking care to also rinse the trigger piston. Before opening it, it is important to remove any salt and sand residues and to have dried them thoroughly.

WARNING
DO NOT use solvents or hydrocarbons of any kind.

CAUTION

  • The Scooter must be stored if possible in a cool, clean and ventilated place, avoiding extreme temperatures, in a vertical position with the bow facing upwards.
  • The battery must be removed, re-charged and also stored away from frost and excessive heat. Note that accidental contact with metal objects inside the connector does not short circuit it.
  • ALWAYS REMOVE the batteries after use, re-charge it and replace the cover on the Scooter to protect the body.

HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION
In any transport situation, the Scooter must always be closed
The Scooter has been designed to be used in an aquatic environment, when it must be transported or loaded in the car, given its shape and weight, some precautions must be observed:

  • Lift the Scooter if possible by holding one of the flow conduit supports and the bow handle
  • During transport by car or boat, the Scooter must be firmly locked so that it does not move, otherwise it could easily roll and create damage to both things and people. In this regard, the use of the appropriate support is recommended (see Suex accessories).
  • On a boat or inflatable boat it is important to avoid placing the Scooter in the bow or in any case in a position that can be subjected to strong jolts: the internal parts could be damaged. When placing the Scooter on the ground, it is always necessary to do it gently and when it is positioned vertically, it should be placed on a horizontal plane, resting it on the propeller protection, taking care that nothing comes into contact with the propeller.
  • If the Scooter is positioned horizontally, it is advisable to use the transport cradle (70606) in order to prevent the weight of the Scooter from weighing on the conveyor.

CAUTION
DO NOT position the Scooter horizontally resting it on the conveyor: the latter risks being irreparably deformed!
If preferred, the Scooter can be raised by the operating handles, provided that too much stress is avoided since they have not been designed to withstand excessive loads. Avoid supporting the weight of the Scooter with only one handle.

WARNING
Before boarding the Scooter on boar AIRCRAFT OR PUBLIC TRANSPORT, it is necessary to be informed on the CURRENT REGULATIONS regulating the TRANSPORT of BATTERIES!

STORAGE

GENERAL STORAGE INFORMATION

The Scooter must be stored in a cool, clean and ventilated place, away from extreme temperatures, in a vertical position with the muzzle facing upwards. The battery must be removed, charged and stored avoiding freezing conditions or excessive heat.
If the Scooter is positioned horizontally, it is advisable to use the transport cradle (70606) in order to prevent the weight of the Scooter from weighing on the conveyor.
CAUTION
DO NOT position the Scooter horizontally resting it on the conveyor: the latter risks being irreparably deformed!

LONG TERM STORAGE

Should the Scooter be stored for long period (more than two months) the followings should be arranged:

  • Carefully rinse the Scooter with fresh water and wash with a neutral detergent if necessary;
  • Fully dry the Scooter;
  • Open the Scooter and remove the battery;
  • Remove, clean and lubricate (slightly) the nosecone O-ring, clean the O-ring seat, insert the O-ring back in;
  • Close the Scooter, finger-tighten the fastening knob;
  • Store the Scooter in a dry, dark place, away from extreme temperatures and out of reach of children;
  • Place the battery in a dry place (relative humidity 65% +/-5%) at a temperature between 15° and 36° C (see. Battery user’s manual);
  • Charge the BATTERY COMPLETELY (see Battery user’s manual);
  • Charge the BATTERY AT LEAST EVERY TWO MONTHS;
  • When the charge is less than 20% recharge it as soon as possible (max within 5 days).

WARNING
Reposition the OR of the body adequately lubricated with Vaseline oil before use.

RESUME FROM STORAGE

In order to resume the Scooter for use, follow the chapter “Preliminary operations”.
WARNING
Check that the body’s OR has been adequately lubricated with Vaseline oil before use.

MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE O RING SEALING ENCLOSURE

CAUTION
NEVER lubricate the movement of the trigger or the magnetic piston.
Open the SCOOTER, remove the O-ring (19 – Fig.6) avoiding the use of tools, and to scratch the O-ring seat, carefully clean the O-ring seat using only a cloth microfiber. Do not use any type of solvent or alcohol. Apply a small amount of Vaseline grease on the O-ring and put it in its place. Keep the screw of the locking knob lubricated with navy blue grease.

MAINTENANCE CLOSING KNOB SEALS

Whenever the closing knob (9 ) should come into contact with the sand, rinse it abundantly with fresh water before rotating it. For the replacement of the gaskets, refer to the authorized Suex centers.
ALUMINIUM BODY MAINTENANCE
Aluminium is marine hard anodized so it is immune to normal salt corrosion, however shocks or incorrect use can damage the protection. In this case the aluminium body should be replaced.

WARNING
Avoid leaving the scooter in long exposure to the sun as it could alter the color of the body protector.
Please note that surface deterioration is considered normal wear and is not covered by the warranty.

PROP LOCK PROPELLER

The easy replacement prop-lock propeller has been designed to be removed from the Scooter in any condition without using any tool. Should extraneous object be entangled, such as ropes, fishing lines or even in case an alternative propeller (different for shape or number of blades) is to be used, either during the dive or on surface, the replacement is easy and the full function of the inside safety maintained.

HOW TO REMOVE THE PROP LOCK PROPELLER
Switch off the Scooter and make sure it is off!
Grasp the propeller by a blade (30) and unscrew the knob (31), turning anticlockwise until the propeller is completely extracted.
Removal of the propeller

DO NOT UNSCREW OR TIGHTEN the screw (32), which has the function of adjusting the torque of the safety clutch which has been calibrated by Suex. Modifying this torque can cause potential DANGER as it can render the safety system ineffective.

DANGER
THE USE OF PROTECTIVE GLOVES IS ALWAYS MANDATORY
The use of the hands or other parts of the body between the propeller blades is a potentially dangerous action, despite the existence of a safety clutch between the propeller and the engine. In the case of replacement or removal of the prop lock propeller, always make sure that the Scooter is off, or by pressing the trigger, the propeller must not turn!

HOW TO INSERT THE PROP LOCK PROPELLER
Switch off the Scooter and make sure it is switched off!
Insert the motor shaft of the Scooter (35 ) in the hole of the propeller (36), turn the propeller (clockwise) until the pin (33) matches the seat (34) propeller. When you hear a click, the propeller will stop turning. Continue by turning (CLOCKWISE) the switch (6) with the finger only, WITHOUT FORCING.

MAINTENANCE PROP LOCK PROPELLER

The prop lock propeller does not require specific maintenance. However, would be appropriate make sure that everything is clean and free from debris.
WARNING

  • When removing and replacing the PROPELLER UNDERWATER, be careful NOT TO DROP IT: the PROPLOCK PROPELLER SINKS!
  • When the SAFETY CLUTCH IS TRIGGERED, STOP the Scooter IMMEDIATELY AVOIDING that the propeller unscrews completely. Before restarting make sure the PROPELLER is SCREWED BACK in PROPERLY.

CAUTION
Be careful when positioning the Scooter vertically on the conveyor, the propeller must not touch the ground or other object.

Those performing maintenance must be properly trained within the SUEX training program, have the relevant certifications and be equipped with the SUEX tool kit and original spare parts.
No CORRECTIVE maintenance is allowed to the maintenance technician other than the operations and replacement of the spare parts listed in the workshop manuals in the sections marked with TAG S2 and TAG S3: in any other case the SUEX TECHNICAL SERVICE must be contacted.

TRANSPORT OF THE BATTERY OUT OF THE SCOOTER
In order to transport a Li-ion battery (alone), out of the Scooter a specific packaging must be used. Battery cannot be transported by air on a passenger craft, it can be air shipped on an AIR CARGO only. The Li-ion battery is class 9 classified for transportation

TRANSPORT OF THE BATTERY INSIDE THE SCOOTER
Refer to UN3171 and IATA packaging instructions PI-952 when transporting the battery inside the scooter.
The scooter with Li-ion battery cannot be transported on a passenger craft as checked baggage. Refer to your forwarder for detailed information.

WARRANTY

Each Scooter is factory tested underwater and only marketed when all necessary tests are passed, including waterproof tests.
In the event of flooding (meaning the liquid in which the Scooter was submerged enters the watertight case) warranty validity is at the discretion of SUEX.
Transport and packaging fees to or from the SUEX offices from non EU countries shall be borne by the purchaser.
Being intended for professional use only, the product and its components (except the batteries for which specific warranty condition are explained into the battery user’s manual) are covered against all manufacturing defects for a period of 2 years (1 year if for professional use) from the date of purchase proven by a sales document. The following exclusion for the warranty applies:

  • Non-conform use i.e. use other than that foreseen or illustrated in this manual;
  • Negligence, attempts to repair or modify the Scooter by personnel not expressly authorized by SUEX that jeopardize correct operations or prevent adequate checks and tests to meet repair needs under the warranty;
  • Temporarily rented products;
  • Scratches or damages to any surface, due to normal product use by the consumer;
  • Normal wear or deterioration;
  • Damages due to transport, falls or accidents.
  • Use of non-original or not SUEX approved spare parts.

Use genuine Suex spare parts only.
The use of non-original or not-approved by Suex parts voids warranty and waives Suex for any damage/loss consequent to the use of the Suex scooter with non-original spare parts not approved by Suex.

REACH COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

  • Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation (EC No. 1907/2006).
  • The European Union’s REACH Directive (EC 1907/2006) is designed to regulate the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances.
  • REACH legislation was finalised in December 2006 and has been in effect since June 2007.
  • SUEX s.r.l. hereby confirms that all products manufactured address the European Union Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 with the company’s role being that of an ‘article producer’ and its manufactured products being considered as ‘articles’ defined under REACH regulation Article 3.
  • SUEX has contacted its supplies and confirms that to the best of its knowledge and belief all necessary registration of any in-scope substances on the REACH SVHC Candidate List have been undertaken by them.
  • Registration is required for companies that either produce or import into the EU any substance in volumes that exceed one tone per substance per year. SUEX does exceed these amounts and is not required to register.
  • SVHC materials Lead (CAS No 7439-92-1) is used in the manufacture of ballast elements in concentration levels greater than the specified limit of 0.1% (weight by weight).
  • Ballast elements using these substances are encased and are considered out of the scope of the restriction due to non-mouthability/non.reachability under normal or reasonably foreseeable condition of use as defined by the REACH regulation and existing guidance.
  • Articles that contain these substances in greater than 0.1% concentrations are RoHS compliant using exemptions from RoHS regulations under Annex IV, items 13 of the directive, which specifies:
  • Lead in counterweights
  • SUEX should be contacted if further SVHC information for purchased products is required.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive
The Directive 2011/65/EU on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS 2, with RoHS 3 amendment 2015/863), replacing Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS 1), targets Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) in order to avoid adverse impacts on human health and the environment.

WEEE COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

The European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) was implemented in the Member States during 2006.
SUEX s.r.l. hereby certifies that, as a manufacturer of qualified electrical and electronic equipment since 2006, all qualified products are subject to the WEEE Directive, with these products marked with the WEEE symbol (“crossed-out wheeled bin”) in accordance with European standard EN 50419.
The specialist nature of the company’s products classifies them as “non- domestic goods” and as such SUEX s.r.l. will finance and organize the recycling of the products returned to us, ensuring that the waste deriving from these products is properly recycled.
Customers are offered the opportunity to return the products at the end of their functional life with delivery costs to be paid by the sender. Products returned to SUEX s.r.l. must comply with the normal product return policy, with the pre-authorization required in the form of an RMA number without which the product will not be accepted.
It should therefore be noted that:

  • Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) cannot be treated as household waste but separate collection should be done separately.
  • Consult the regulations in force for the correct disposal of WEEE.
  • Electrical and electronic equipment could have potential dangerous effects on the environment and on health due to the presence of dangerous substances.
  • The WEEE symbol is present on each device and consists of a crossed-out bin – as in the figure – with a horizontal bar that identifies the electrical and electronic equipment put on the market after 13 August 2005.
  • Consumers of electrical and electronic equipment are required to reuse and recycle WEEE.
  • Consumers should check and verify the information contained in the publication made by the retailer in the shop.
  • Consult also the European and non-European Regulations for anything not expressly specified in this document.
DISPOSAL AND SCRAPPING

The product is partially built with recyclable materials.
When the Scooter can no longer be used safely, it must be demolished.
It must be dismantled and separated into its parts, the plastic parts must be deposited in special containers for the collection of the plastic material, metal parts brought to a metal materials collection center.

WARNING
All the Scooter parts, and the battery in particular, must be disposed of accordingly to the local regulations on waste and recycling.
