Safety Precautions

UV-C Lamp Disposal

For proper disposal of used UV lamps:

  • Visit www.earth911.com for your local or state waste management program.
  • Contact local hardware, home improvement stores, or retailers selling UV and fluorescent bulbs for recycling options.
  • If recycling is not available, seal the bulb in a plastic bag and dispose of it with regular trash collection (if acceptable by local waste management).

Installation Guide
Part 1: Magnetic Bracket & Lamp Installation

  1. Wear gloves when touching the UV Lamp.
  2. Find a suitable location for installation.
  3. Attach the UV Lamp to the magnetic bracket.
  4. Connect the 4 pin UV plug to the UV Lamp.
  5. Position the metal bracket onto the back or side wall of the air handler.

Part 2: Wiring Installation
Note : This model (BioShield SL18-AC) needs to be connected to a 24V AC transformer. If you have a different model (SL18-DC), it can be plugged directly into an outlet.

  1. Verify that the existing HVAC transformer has enough amperage allowance for the additional 1.1amp draw from the UV light. If not, use a higher amp or separate transformer specifically for the UV light.
  2. Connect the Ballast to the 24V HVAC Transformer following the provided diagram.

  • In case you touched the lamp’s bulb, wipe it clean with isopropyl alcohol.
  • If the lamp is not cleaned, the film of hand oils causes a reduction in the light intensity.

Never expose eyes directly to UV light.

  • Looking at the UV lamp may cause eye damage.
  • Wear safety glasses during installation.

Never touch a broken lamp, and avoid touching its contents. The lamp contains mercury.

  • If you get any of the substance on your skin, wash it off with mild soap.
  • if the bulb breaks, clean up carefully and dispose of it.

UV-C Lamp Disposal

Visit www.earth911.com for your local or state waste management program and information about where to dispose of the used UV Lamp.

Contact your local hardware, home improvement stores, and other retailers selling UV and fluorescent bulbs. Many stores allow customers to drop off used bulbs for recycling.
If you cannot recycle, and it is acceptable with your local waste management agency, you may seal the bulb in a plastic bulb and put it in the trash for collection.

BEFORE INSTALLATION

  • Turn off HVAC system and ensure all electrical connections are off.
  • Installation to be done by a certified HVAC technician and must comply with all national and local electrical and mechanical codes.

MAGNETIC BRACKET & LAMP INSTALLATION

Please use gloves when touching the UV Lamp.

  1. Find a suitable location
  2. Attach the UV Lamp to the magnetic bracket
  3.  Connect the 4 pin UV plug to the UV Lamp
  4. Position the metal bracket onto the back or side of wall of air handler.

WIRING INSTALLATION

NOTE : This particular model needs to be connected to a 24V AC transformer. However, BioShieldUV also offers a different model (SL18-DC) that does not require wiring and can be simply plugged into an outlet.

  1. Verify the existing HVAC transformer has enough amperage allowance for the additional 1.1amp draw from the UV light. If not, you must use a higher amp or separate transformer just for the UV light.
  2. Connect the Ballast to the 24V HVAC Transformer. See the diagram below.

Note : BioShieldUV and its staff cannot provide any technical assistance with the installation.
Not only is each HVAC transformer different, but the installation must be done by a licensed professional. BioShieldUV can only provide the hardware, tools, and generic installation steps/principles.

VIEWPORT INSTALLATION

  • Find the desired spot to drill on the exterior ductwork where the viewport won’t be blocked by anything.
  • Press the viewport plastic into the hole. Ensure air handler or panels are closed.
  • If necessary, use a seal or clear tape to secure the viewport from falling. Turn on UV Lamp.

Replace bulbs every 6 months

  • The lamp bulb is rated for about 8,000 hours of use under continuous operation
  • The diminish of blue light is normal overtime. UV rays are invisible to the naked eye.
  • All for BioShieldUV devices use the LED indicator on the device to confirm if UV bulb is functional or requires replacement.
  • For BioSL18-AC (Where no indicator light is available) you can use a voltmeter and test the bulb for a close circuit to verify if the light is still working.
