Cast Iron Cookware
Care and tips
Before first use
Ensure to carefully read all the instructione thoroughly to get the most out of your cookware. Before you use your cookware for the first time, remove all labels and thoroughly wash in warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Dry completely before use.
Maintenence
Before using your cookware, check it thoroughly, and retighten any knobs or
fasteners that have loosened, to ensure they are secure before use.
The rim of the cast iron cookware is not covered with enamel coating. This
provides a close fit between the lid and pot. If rust forms on the rim of the
cookware, it can be easily removed by gently scrubbing with a non-scratch
scourer and mild detergent. Wash clean and dry, then apply a thin coating of
vegetable oil on the area.
Wipe off any excess oil, and dry thoroughly before storing.
It is recommendend to repeat the application of vegetable oil 2-3 times and
wipe off excess oil to fully protect the cookware from rust.
Safety and warnings
Whenever you use your cookware, always bring it up to cooking temperature
slowly to prevent damage. When your cookware is heated up too quickly the cast
iron can expand faster than the enamel coating, which can result in the enamel
cracking.
Dry your cookware thoroughly, never drip dry or leave the cookware wet, as
this will allow rust to build up overtime. Never heat your cookware whilst
empty or allow to boil dry for extended periods. Cast iron cookware retains
heat much longer than other cookware, always use gloves when touching your
cookware. Do not place the cookware on an unprotected surface, even if it has
been cooling for some time, always use a heat proof board or mat. Allow time
for your cookware to cool to room temperature before cleaning.
Avoid metal utensils when cooking, they will scratch or possibly chip the
enamel surface. Non-scratch items such as silicon or wooden utensils are
better for the coating. Never cut food inside the pan, the blade may damage
the enamel.
When cleaning your cookware, you may use a dishwasher, however, hand washing
in warm soapy water is recommended to keep you cookware in good condition. Use
a non-scratch scourer and mild detergent, never use a steel scourer. Do not
place your cookware in cold water whilst it is still warm, it may damage the
enamel.
Daumonet cast iron cookware can be used in the freezer. Our cookware is not
microwave safe.
When you want to move the cast iron pan, you must never move it by sliding. It
must always be moved by lifting it. Sliding can cause damage to the pan(s),
your hob or kitchen worktop. You should therefore be extra careful and always
lift the pan.
