IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when an appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  4. Do not touch hot surfaces or hot water. Use handles or knobs. Care must be taken since burns can occur from touching hot parts or from spilled hot liquid.
  5. To protect against fire, electric shock, and personal injury, do not immerse the cord, plug, power base, or electric kettle in water or other liquid.
  6. Unplug from the outlet when the kettle is not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged supply cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Supply cord replacement and repairs must be conducted by the manufacturer its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard. Contact Customer Service for information on examination, repair, or adjustment as outlined in the Limited Warranty.
  8. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
  9. Do not use outdoors.
  10. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
  11. Do not place an electric kettle on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
  12. To disconnect the electric kettle, turn any control off (O) and then remove the plug from the wall outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.
  13. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use.
  14. Do not use for other than heating water. Other liquids or food will contaminate the interior and void the warranty.
  15. Do not allow the kettle to boil dry.
  16. To avoid circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
  17. The heater may remain hot after the kettle is turned off.
  18. WARNING: If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected. 19. WARNING: Scalding may occur if the lid is opened during the heating cycle.
  19. Be certain the kettle lid is securely in place during operation and when pouring hot water. Do not use force when placing the lid on the kettle.
  20. Use only the power base provided.

This appliance is intended for household use only.

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard : This appliance is provided with a polarized plug (one wide blade) to reduce the risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a polarized outlet. The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in or tripping over a longer cord. How to Use

WARNING Burn Hazard. Do not overfill the kettle. Boiling water may spit out of the spout.

Before first use
Press the Lid-Opening Button to lift the Lid and fill the Kettle with water to the MAX fill line on the Water Level Window. Press the Lid down until it locks in place. Press the Power Switch down to turn the Kettle on. The kettle will bring water to a boil and then shut off automatically. Discard water and repeat 2 times, rinsing out the Kettle each time. The kettle is now ready for use.

  1. Press the Lid-Opening Button to lift the Lid and fill the Kettle with water to the MAX Fill Line. Do not fill above the MAX fill line or below the 0.5 L fill line. Press the Lid down until it locks into place and place the Kettle on the Base.

  2. Plug into Outlet.

  3. Press our Sewich down and the Blue LED ON Light will illuminate while heating. The kettle will automatically shut off when the water has boiled and Power Switch will move up to OFF (0). Unplug.

  4. To remove Mesh Filter: Mesh Filter is visible through the Lid opening. Pull upward on the Tab to remove. Rinse the Filter periodically.
    WARNING: Burn Hazard, Allow the kettle to cool before attempting to remove the mesh filter.

  5. To replace the Mesh Filter: Slide the Lower Tab of the Filter into a lower slot inside the Kettle, ensuring the Tab is facing inward. Press down on the Upper Tab to slide into the upper slot. The filter will fit only one way.

NOTE
Only use a Kettle to heat water. If Kettle is used to heat other liquids, such as coffee or tea, the warranty will be voided.

If Kettle Floor Discolors
It is normal for stainless steel heating elements to discolor. This does not affect the performance of Kettle. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners since this may damage the stainless steel surface. If the Kettle Boils Dry
The heating element is protected by two automatic safety devices. If your Kettle is accidentally switched on without being filled with water or is allowed to boil dry, the Kettle will automatically switch off, You should:

  • Lift the Power Switch up to turn OFF (O), unplug it, and wait about 20 minutes for the element to cool down.
  • Refill the Kettle; then use it as normal and check that the Kettle functions correctly.

If Kettle Does Not Work:
Make these simple checks before visiting hamiltonbeach.com:

  • Have you turned the power switch down to the ON I) position?
  • If the Kettle heats but does not boil, it might need descaling.
  • Has the Kettle been accidentally switched on without being filled with water or allowed to boil dry? Lift the Power Switch to turn OFF (O), wait 20 minutes, and try again.
  • Is the cord firmly plugged into the outlet and the Kettle firmly seated in the Base?

Anti-Scale Mesh Filter
Scale is caused by lime and calcium in hard water. A Mesh Filter will prevent these suspended particles from being poured out of the Kettle. The filter should be cleaned periodically to ensure optimum performance. To clean the Filter, unplug the Kettle and allow it to cool. The Mesh Filter may be removed by pulling upward on the Filter tab, which is visible through the Lid opening. Rinse the Filter under running water and brush with a soft brush. An old, clean toothbrush works well.

Care and Cleaning
WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard. Do not immerse the kettle, power base, or plug in water or other liquid.
WARNING Burn Hazard. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders since they may scratch the smooth surface of the kettle.

To remove discoloration or scale/lime deposits from inside the Kettle

  1. Unplug.
  2. Pour 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 1/4 cup (59 mL) water into the Kettle and let stand for 10 minutes. Place 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) cream of tartar (available in the spice aisle of 172C with walto Klug into the outfit, press Power Switch down, and bring to boil. Lift the Power Switch up to turn it OFF. Unplug and let it cool. Rinse several times with clean tap water.
  3. Rub the Kettle floor with a paper towel. Remove the paper towel and vinegar.
  4. Wash with soap and water, and then rinse.

Limited Warranty

This warranty applies to products purchased and used in the U.S. and Canada. This is the only express warranty for this product and is instead of any other warranty or condition. This product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for five (5) years from the date of original purchase in Canada and one (1) year from the date of original purchase in the U.S. During this period, your exclusive remedy is the replacement of this product or any component found to be defective, at our option; however, you are responsible for all costs associated with our returning a product or component under this warranty to you. If the product or component is unavailable, we will replace it with a similar one of equal or greater value.

This warranty does not cover glass, filters, wear from normal use, use not in conformity with the printed directions, or damage to the product resulting from accident, alteration, abuse, or misuse. This warranty extends only to the original consumer purchaser or gift recipient. Keep the original sales receipt, as proof of purchase is required to make a warranty claim. This warranty is void if the product is used for other than single-family household use or subjected to any voltage and waveform other than as specified on the rating label (e.g., 120V – 60 Hz).

We exclude all claims for special, incidental, and consequential damages caused by breach of express or implied warranty. All liability is limited to the amount of the purchase price. Every implied warranty, including any statutory warranty or condition of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, is disclaimed except to the extent prohibited by law, in which case such warranty or condition is limited to the duration of this written warranty. This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have other legal rights that vary depending on where you live. Some states or provinces do not allow limitations on implied warranties or special, incidental, or consequential damages, so the foregoing limitations may not apply to you.
