****MAINTENANCE RULES

FOR LI-ION AND LI-PO BATTERIES:

  • The first charging process is very important!
Please charge the battery completely before the first use.

  • If a battery is discharged below its nominal voltage, this might trigger further processes, which could damage or destroy the battery.

  • Therefore, ALPENHEAT batteries have built-in electronics that switch off the device before such a deep discharge happens.

  • Frequent overcharging can permanently damage the battery.
That’s why the charger stops the charging process automatically as soon as the battery is fully charged. Repeatedly reconnecting a charged battery to the power supply will not increase the charging level!

  • Charging should normally only be carried out at room temperature (about 18°C – 21°C). Avoid charging a cold battery, as this might damage the cells. Allow the battery to warm up at room temperature in order to charge it under ideal conditions.

  • High temperatures might also damage the battery. Never leave the battery in the sun or in the car on hot and sunny days.

  • Li-Ion batteries and Li-Polymer batteries should ideally be stored at room temperature.

  • Fully charged or empty Li-ion batteries should not be stored for a longer period of time. In complex tests, the optimum storage condition was determined at a capacity of 30 % to 50 % and at a low temperature, but not below 0 °C.

  • Storage at -5 °C to 45 °C (Li-Ion) and at 0 °C to 40 °C (Li-Polymer) is possible, but not recommended

  • Batteries have to be charged every 6 months.

  • Even if not in use batteries lose energy.
    A Li-Ion battery loses about 3 % to 5 % per month.

  • Always dispose of used and old batteries in an environmentally correct way.

INSTRUCTIONS

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Keep the product out of the reach of small children, as it contains small parts which could be swallowed. This product should not be used by individuals unable to determine when the temperature is too hot or too cold. Small children are more sensitive to hot and cold.
Certain illnesses, e.g. diabetes, can cause impaired temperature sensitivity. Persons with disabilities or infirm persons might not be able to communicate that they are too warm or too cold. Therefore the product is not suitable for children under the age of three, the infirm or individuals insensitive to heat. If in doubt or if you have cardiovascular problems consult your doctor before using the product. Only use the original recharger supplied with the product for charging the batteries. It has been designed for indoor use only and should not be exposed to moisture. Alpen heat products are not compatible with one another or with products from other manufacturers, so never use chargers, heaters or battery packs from other products. Do not insert metal or other objects into the connection sockets or plug as this can damage the product. If you notice that the connection cables or any other parts are damaged, do not use the product. Do not make any changes to the product and do not use it for any purpose other than intended.

CHARGING BATTERIES

The integrated batteries have to be charged before each use.
Batteries only reach their full capacity after having been charged several times.
To achieve the full capacity, proceed as follows:

  1. Plug the Y cables of the charger into the back of both insoles. The socket for charging is next to the manual control switch and LED. Insert the charger into a household outlet.
Charge the batteries overnight prior to first use. Both insoles should be charged at the same time for about 6 hours. The insoles need to be turned off during charging.

  2. The LED on the insoles indicates that the batteries are being charged.
The insoles have 4 different light states during charging:
    Blink red: 1 – 33% Power
    Blink yellow: 34 – 66% Power
    Blink green: 67 – 99% Power
    Full green: 100% Power

  3. The insoles are now ready for use.
Note : Insoles never work during charging

When using the insoles for the first time or if they have not been used for a long time, the integrated batteries should be discharged and charged. Plug the recharger into a standard household outlet. Do not use the recharger near sources of moisture. If you are travelling make sure the power is on and that the power to that outlet is not turned off with the light switch, as is customary in some hotel rooms. A shaver outlet is not suitable and should not be used.
It is normal for the recharger to get warm whilst charging. Charge the batteries at an ambient temperature between 10° – 35° C / 50° – 95° F. The storage temperature should not exceed 50° C / 122° F otherwise the batteries could be damaged.

BATTERY CARE

Excessive charging is prevented by the charging control in the batteries.
Occasional insufficient recharging (less than 4 hours) does not harm the batteries.
However, frequent insufficient charging over a period of weeks does result in a reduction of the performance capacity. Completely charge the batteries to increase the performance capacity. Completely discharging the batteries insures extremely efficientutilization. If this is not done regularly, the charging capability will also be impaired.
To increase the performance capacity of the batteries, completely charge them, and completely discharge them. Charging can be interrupted. However, the longer the interruption e.g. a week or a month, the more important it is to completely discharge and charge the batteries as recommended.
Fully charge the batteries every 3-6 months to prolong the battery life.

USING FOR THE FIRST TIME

Cut the insole to the size of your foot. Follow the instructions on the insole. Do not cut the heating element or the battery. The cutting marks serve as a guide. Place insoles into shoes.
