IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  4. Do not touch hot surfaces or hot water. Use handles or knobs. Care must be taken since burns can occur from touching hot parts or from spilled hot liquid.
  5. To protect against fire, electric shock, and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug, power base, or electric kettle in water or other liquid.
  6. Unplug from outlet when kettle is not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged supply cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Supply cord replacement and repairs must be conducted by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. Contact Customer Service for information on examination, repair, or adjustment as set forth in the Limited  Warranty.
  8. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
  9. Do not use outdoors. 10. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
  10. Do not place electric kettle on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
  11. To disconnect electric kettle, turn any control to off by pressing start/stop and then remove plug from wall outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.
  12. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  13. Do not use for other than heating water. Other liquids or food will contaminate the interior and void warranty.
  14. Do not allow kettle to boil dry.
  15. To avoid circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
  16. Heater may remain hot after the kettle is turned off.
  17. WARNING: If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected.
  18. WARNING: Scalding may occur if the lid is opened during the heating cycle.
  19. Be certain kettle lid is securely in place during operation and when pouring hot water.
  20. Use only the power base provided.

This appliance is intended for household use only.

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard: This appliance is provided with either a polarized (one wide blade) or grounded (3-prong) plug to reduce the risk of electric shock. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in any way or by using an adapter. If it still does not fit, have an electrician replace the outlet.

The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the appliance. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over.

To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not use another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit with this appliance.

How to Use

WARNING Burn Hazard. Do not overfill kettle. Boiling water may spit out of the spout.

Before first use: Remove sticker from Display. Press Open Lid Release Button to lift Lid and fill Kettle with water to MAX fill line (1.7 L). Press Lid down to secure in place and add Kettle to Base. Press START/STOP Button to turn Kettle on, and then press MODE Button to select Black Tea/Boil. Kettle will bring water to boil and shut off automatically. Discard water and repeat 3 times, rinsing out Kettle each time. Kettle is now ready for use. Discard water and repeat 2–3 times, rinsing out Kettle  each time. The Kettle is now ready for use.

  1. Press Open Lid Release Button to lift Lid to add water to Kettle. Do not fill above MAX fill line (1.7 L). Push Lid down to close.

  2. Make sure Base is on a level surface. Place Kettle on Base.

  3. Plug into outlet. Kettle will beep.

  4. Press START/STOP Button, then press MODE Button to select type with corresponding temperature. Kettle will automatically begin to heat water. Once selected temperature is reached, Kettle will beep 3 times and switch to Keep Warm for 30 minutes. During this time Kettle will keep heating to maintain selected temperature. After 30 minutes  Kettle will automatically turn off. Display will automatically turn off after 5 minutes.
    NOTE: START/STOP Button can be pressed at any time to turn Kettle off.

  5. Pour hot water into desired mug or cup.

  6. Unplug.

NOTE: Only use Kettle to heat water. If Kettle is used to heat other liquids, such as coffee or tea, the warranty will be voided.

Keep Warm Function:

Kettle automatically switches to Keep Warm for 30 minutes when selected temperature has been reached. During this time Kettle will keep heating to maintain selected temperature. If Kettle is removed from Base, Kettle will turn off. Press START/STOP Button to return to selected temperature and Kettle will start heating. Keep Warm Function does not maintain a boil at 212°F (100°C). It will maintain 200°F (93°C).

If Kettle Floor Discolors:

It is normal for stainless steel heating elements to discolor. This does not affect the performance of Kettle. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners since this may damage the stainless steel surface.

If Kettle Boils Dry:

The heating element is protected by two automatic safety devices. If your Kettle is accidentally switched on without being filled with water, or is allowed to boil dry, Kettle will automatically switch off. You should:

  • Unplug Kettle and wait about 20 minutes for element to cool down.
  • Refill Kettle; then use as normal and check that Kettle functions correctly. Remove Kettle from Base and place back on Base. Press START/STOP Button, then press MODE Button to select desired tea setting.

If Kettle Does Not Work:

  • If Black Tea/Boil was selected and Kettle does not boil, it might need descaling (see “Care and Cleaning” section).
  • Has Kettle been accidentally turned on without being filled with water, or allowed to boil dry? Remove Kettle from Base and add water. Place Kettle back on Base and press START/STOP Button. If Kettle doesn’t turn on, wait 20 minutes, and try again.
  • Is cord firmly plugged into outlet and Kettle firmly seated in Base?

NOTE: These temperature settings can vary depending on a number of factors, such as altitude, impurities in the water, and the amount of water in the Kettle.

Tea Guide

  • Bring filtered or good-tasting tap water to a boil in Kettle. Use 6 ounces (177 mL) of water per cup of tea.
  • If using loose tea instead of tea bags, measure 1 rounded teaspoon of tea per cup into an infuser and place infuser in cup. If no infuser is available, put tea directly into cup.
  • Pour heated water directly over tea. For stronger tea, add more leaves rather than infusing longer than is recommended.
  • Tea that is oversteeped will become bitter.

Care and Cleaning

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard. Do not immerse kettle, power base, or plug in water or any other liquid.

WARNING Burn Hazard. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders since they may scratch the smooth surface of the kettle.

  1. With Kettle unplugged, empty any remaining water and rinse. Allow Kettle to cool completely.
  2. Wipe the exterior of Kettle with a damp cloth and dry. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders since they may scratch smooth surface of Kettle.

To remove discoloration or scale/lime deposit from inside Kettle:

  1. Unplug.

  2. Pour 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 1/4 cup (59 mL) water into Kettle and let stand 10 minutes.
    OR
    Place 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) cream of tartar (available in the spice aisle of grocery store) into Kettle. Then fill Kettle 1/2 full with water. Plug into outlet, press START/STOP Button, and bring to boil. Press START/STOP Button. Unplug and let cool. Rinse several times with clean tap water.

  3. Rub Kettle floor with a paper towel. Remove paper towel and vinegar.

  4. Wash with soap and water, and then rinse and dry.
    TIP: To avoid scale/lime deposit buildup, empty Kettle after each use.

Limited Warranty

This warranty applies to products purchased and used in the U.S. and Canada. This is the only express warranty for this product and is in lieu of any other warranty or condition. This product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of original purchase in Canada and one (1) year from the date of original purchase in the U.S. During this period, your exclusive remedy is replacement of this product or any component found to be defective, at our option; however, you are responsible for all costs associated with our returning a product or component under this warranty to you. If the product or component is unavailable, we will replace with a similar one of equal or greater value.

This warranty does not cover glass, filters, wear from normal use, use not in conformity with the printed directions, or damage to the product resulting from accident, alteration, abuse, or misuse. This warranty extends only to the original consumer purchaser or gift recipient. Keep the original sales receipt, as proof of purchase is required to make a warranty claim. This warranty is void if the product is used for other than single-family household use or subjected to any voltage and waveform other than as specified on the rating label (e.g., 120V ~ 60 Hz).

We exclude all claims for special, incidental, and consequential damages caused by breach of express or implied warranty. All liability is limited to the amount of the purchase price. Every implied warranty, including any statutory warranty or condition of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, is disclaimed except to the extent prohibited by law, in which case such warranty or condition is limited to the duration of this written warranty. This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have other legal rights that vary depending on where you live. Some states or provinces do not allow limitations on implied warranties or special, incidental, or consequential damages, so the foregoing limitations may not apply to you.
