Installation
-
Disconnect negative battery cable from battery. (For diesel engines with dual batteries disconnect both negative cables)
-
Pry loose the radio bezel. Fig. 1
-
Remove the four screws securing the radio and HVAC controls. HVAC control wiring does not need to be disconnected. **Fig. 2
**
-
Route the amplifier harness from the radio opening down to the driver’s kick panel area. The white connectors will connect to the amplifier.
-
Disconnect the radio speaker/power connector and connect it to the amplifier harness. Tuck the connector out of the way . Fig. 3
-
Connect the remaining amplifier harness connector to the radio. Make sure the connector is fully seated **. Fig.4
Wire Routing**
-
Snap loose the driver’s side front and rear threshold panel along the bottom of the door openings.
-
Remove the red battery terminal cover and then the power distribution cover next to the battery on the passenger’s side.
-
Remove the fuse from the fuse holder on the amplifier and subwoofer power harnesses. Connect the ring terminals of both harnesses to the power lug closest to the front of the vehicle and torque to 9 +/- 1.5 Nm. Fig. 5
NOTE: Depending on year model, appearance of the power distribution area may differ slightly from Fig. 5 . Regardless, use the power lug closest to the front of the vehicle. -
Route the power wire along the fire wall to the factory grommet on the driver’s side and secure with wire ties.
-
Using a razor knife, make a cross shaped incision in the protrusion large rubber grommet and feed the power wires straight through the hole on the cabin side of the grommet **. Fig. 6
**
- Install the white three pin power connector on the amplifier power harness and close the retainer. **Fig. 7
Note:** The terminals are keyed so that they only install one way. If the terminal doesn’t want to slide completely into the connector, it may need to be rotated 180 degrees. It does not matter which red wire goes in what position of the connector.
- Install the black two pin power connector on the subwoofer power harness by first inserting the terminal
fully into the connector and then depressing the blue retainer. **Fig. 8
Note:** Make sure the blue retainer in the center of the connector is not depressed – it should be flush with the front of the connector. If the retainer is depressed, the terminal will not fully seat in the connector body. Make sure the terminal is installed into position 1 on the connector body. There should be a block-out plug installed in position 2 in order to prevent the terminal from being installed into the wrong position on the connector.
-
Connect the amplifier power harness three-pin connector to the amplifier harness three-pin connector.
-
Connect the subwoofer power harness two-pin connector to the subwoofer harness two-pin connector.
-
Connect the white two-pin signal connector on the subwoofer harness to the white two pin connector of the amplifier harness.
-
Connect the black ground wire of both the amplifier and subwoofer harness to the bolt next to the park brake pedal indicated in Fig 9 Torque to 9 +/- 1.5 Nm.
-
Continue routing the subwoofer harness down the driver’s side of the vehicle to the back wall. Open the cover of the wire tray along the threshold of the door, install wire and replace the tray cover.
-
Route the subwoofer harness under the carpet along the back wall toward the passenger’s side of the cabin. Once the harness is routed to the passenger’s side. Allow the remaining length of harness to lie on top of the carpet and exit from beneath the seat between the jack and the center seatbelt receptacle.
Subwoofer Mounting -
Remove the most forward rear passenger’s side seat nut located by the door opening.
-
Remove the nut securing rear center seatbelt receptacle and remove temporarily. Fig. 10
-
Make a slit in the carpet one in down from the top of the hump near in between the seats and approximately 3 inches long. Center the slit from side to side. Fig. 11
-
Connect the subwoofer wiring to the subwoofer harness and set the enclosure into place by sliding the center bracket through the slit in the carpet and over the seat stud and seatbelt receptacle stud. Fig. 12
-
Reinstall the rear center seatbelt receptacle over the top of the subwoofer bracket and reinstall the factory nut. Torque to 53 Nm (39 ft/lb)
-
Reinstall the rear seat nut. Torque to 109 Nm (80 ft/lb)
Amplifier Mounting (2014-2016 Trucks)
Remove the lower left and lower right nut securing the junction box behind the parking brake pedal.
Fig. 13
Connect the amplifier harness to the amplifier.
Slide the amplifier/bracket assembly over the junction box studs and on top of the junction box and
reinstall the nuts. Torque to 17 Nm. **Fig. 14
Amplifier Mounting (2017- newer Trucks)**
-
Locate the module mounted closest to the junction box behind the parking brake pedal. Fig. 15
-
Pull down on the module to release it from its mounting bracket and let it hang below the dash. Fig. 16
- DO NOT PULL ON MODULE BY GRASPING WIRE HARNESS
- DO NOT DISCONNECT MODULE WIRE HARNESS
-
Remove the lower left and lower right nut securing the junction box behind the parking brake pedal. Fig. 17
-
Connect the amplifier harness to the amplifier.
-
Slide the amplifier/bracket assembly over the junction box studs and on top of the junction box while pulling the hood release cable out of the way. Fig. 18
- The hood release cable should be routed as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 19
- The hood release cable should be routed as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 19
-
Reinstall the module to its original location.
-
Reinstall the junction box nuts and torque to 17Nm.
-
Install the fuses into the fuse holders.
-
Reinstall all previously removed parts in reverse order
-
Reconnect the negative battery cable(s). Torque to 17Nm.
Troubleshooting the Kicker Integrated Systems
If you experience a problem once the subwoofer or amplifier are installed use this guide to locate the trouble.
The radio is working, but the Subwoofer is not working:
- Check the battery voltage to make sure it is not discharged below 11 volts.
- Check the negative battery cable to see if it has been securely tightened back on the battery.
- Check the inline fuse located near the battery to make sure it is plugged in completely, and not blown.
- Check the inline +12 volt power connector near the firewall to make sure it is plugged in securely.
- Check the inline connectors near the subwoofer enclosure to make sure they are plugged securely.
- Check the ground wire connection to make sure it is tightly secured to the proper ground in the vehicle.
- Check the audio input signal connection to make sure it is secure and connected to the proper wiring.
- Test with different music in case there is no low frequency audio in the initial sound check.
There is a problem with the multi-channel stereo amplifier:
- Check the battery voltage to make sure it is not discharged below 11 volts.
- Check the negative battery cable to see if it has been securely tightened back on the battery.
- Check the inline fuse located near the battery to see if it is plugged in completely and not blown.
- Check the multi-pin connectors at the back of the radio and at the amplifier chassis to make sure they are plugged all the way in.
- Check the ground wire connection to make sure it is tightly secured to the proper ground in the vehicle
Symptom | Possible Cause | Solution |
