Drive Roller Orientation
Align wire in the centre of drive roll grooves, and secure the drive roll with a set screw.
- 0.03″ wires into the small groove.
- For other diameter wires need to purchase a drive roller.
- 0.035″ wires into the large groove.
Do not overtighten the drive roll tension tight until the wire does not slip. Too small contact tip, dirty liner, too tight drive roll tension and too tight spool hub tension all affect wire feeding. Do not over-tighten the spool hub tension; adjust the tension so that the spool will spin freely but is not allowed to overrun when you stop feeding the wire.

Electrode diameter | Current(stick) |
---|---|
1/16″ | 6-8 |
Output Polarity
- MIG Welding (DCEP): Solid wires DC(+)
- MIG Welding (DCEN): Gasless wires DC(-)
Additional Notes
- Aluminium welding: Loosen drive roll tension, keep the MIG gun straight, use a separate liner and keep it clean.
- MIG gun replacement parts include a dual groove drive roll with a small groove for 0.03″ wires and a large groove for 0.035″ wires and suggest screw is to remove and reverse the drive roll.
- E6011: Minimal preparation required, rough, high spatter.
- E6013: General use, poor fit-up.
- E7014: Smooth, fast and easy to use.
- E7018: Low hydrogen, strong welds.
FAQ
- How should I adjust the drive roll tension?
- Adjust the drive roll tension so that the wire does not slip but also does not deform. It should be tight enough to feed the wire but not so tight as to cause issues with wire feeding.
- What should I do if I’m using a wire diameter that’s not 0.03″ or 0.035″?
- For wire diameters other than 0.03″ or 0.035″, you will need to purchase the appropriate drive roller.
- What are the recommended electrode diameters and current settings?
- For an electrode diameter of 1/16″, a current setting of 6-8 is recommended. Additional settings for other electrode diameters can be found in the provided table under ‘The Electrode Diameter Selection and Welding Current Setting’ section.
