Additional safety warnings for jigsaws

  • Keep hands away from the sawing range. Do not reach under the workpiece. Contact with the saw blade can lead to injuries.

  • Apply the power tool to the workpiece only when switched on. Otherwise there is danger of kickback when the cutting tool jams in the workpiece.

  • Pay attention that the base plate rests securely on the material while sawing. A jammed saw blade can break or lead to kickback.

  • When the cut is completed, switch off the power tool and pull the blade out of the cut only after it has come to a complete standstill. In this manner you can avoid kickback and can place down the power tool securely.

  • Always wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before placing it down.
The blade can jam and lead to loss of control over the power tool.

  • Use only undamaged blades that are in perfect condition. Bent or dull saw blades can break, negatively influence the cut, or lead to kickback. Prior to each use, check if the accessories have any signs of damage.

  • After switching off the jigsaw, do not stop the blade by applying side pressure. The saw blade can be damaged, break or cause kickback.

  • Use appropriate detectors to determine if utility lines are hidden in the work area or call the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explosion. Penetrating a water line causes property damage or electric shock.

  • Secure the workpiece. Never hold the workpiece in your hand or across your legs or against your body. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand. An unstable workpiece can cause loss of control of the tool and/or injury.

  • Inspect workpiece for any nails and remove them before operation.

  • Check for proper clearance beyond he workpiece before cutting so that the blade will not strike the floor, workbench etc.

  • Hold the power tool with a firm grip with both hands (if possible) and keep a good balance. The tool is best guided with both hands.

  • Position your body on one or the other side of the power tool, but not in the alignment of the blade or the cutting axis.

  • Do not cut oversize workpiece.

  • Do not operate the power tool at no-load unnecessarily.

  • The jigsaw must not be used above shoulder height.

  • Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.

  • Do not try to remove debris material when the blade is still moving.

  • Some materials may contain chemicals that can be toxic. Avoid inhalation of dust and any contact with the skin.

  • The retractable anti-splinter guard cannot protect you from the blade on the underside of the work area. Do not try to remove the material when the cutting blade moves.

  • Always check the proper closure of the guard before each use. Do not operate the tool if guard does not move freely and does not close properly.

  • Never hold or tie the guard in open position.

  • If you accidentally drop the power tool, the guard may become damaged. Check that the guard opens and closes freely and it does not touch the blade or any other part.

  • If the guard is not operating properly, it must be repaired in an authorized service point before any further use of the power tool.

  • Periodically clean the guard from the accumulated dirt. To clean the guard safely, switch off the power tool, remove the battery and the blade.

  • Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of dust may cause electrical hazards.

  • Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool’s manufacturer. Use of any other accessories pose a hazard of serious injury and damage to the power tool. It is not because an accessory can be attached to your tool;
that it can assure safe operation. The accessories must meet specific requirements:

  • The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories operated faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.

  • Blade length must be appropriate for the thickness of the workpiece. The blade length should be sufficient to extend beyond the whole workpiece throughout the stroke. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.

  • The size of accessory must properly fit the spindle of the power tool. Accessories that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool are likely to run out of balance; vibrate and are likely to cause loss of control.

Kickback and related warnings

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged moving blade. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the cutting accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory’s rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if a blade is snagged or pinched by the work piece, the edge of the blade that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the blade to climb out or kick out.
The blade may either jump towards or away from the operator, depending on direction of the blade’s movement at the point of pinching.
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:

  • Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arms to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
  • Never place your hand near the moving accessory. The accessory may kickback over your hand.
  • Do not position your body in the area where the power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback will propel the power tool in the direction opposite to the blade’s movement at the point of snagging.
  • Use special care when working corners, sharp edges, etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.

Residual risks

Even when the power tool is used as prescribed it is not possible to eliminate all residual risk factors. The following hazards may arise in connection with the power tool’s construction and design:

  • Damage to lungs if a dust mask is not worn.
  • Damage to hearing if hearing protection is not worn.
  • Health defects resulting from vibration emission if the power tool is being used over longer period of time or not adequately managed and properly maintained.
  • Injuries and damage to property to due to broken accessories that are suddenly dashed.

Warning!
This power tool produces an electromagnetic field during operation. This field may under some circumstances interfere with active or passive medical implants. To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury, we recommend persons with medical implants to consult their physician and the medical implant manufacturer before operating this power tool.

Setting the pendulum action

The pendulum action consists of the blade stroking up and down and simultaneously rocking in a pendulum-like motion i.e. the blade moves forwards and backwards.
The pendulum action switch can be set in four positions. The setting depends on the type of the cut and the workpiece material.
A low pendulum action usually results in a smooth and clean cut (smooth edges, without any jaggedness).
A high pendulum action usually results in a coarse and fast cut where the edges of the workpiece are more jagged.

Position Blade movement Cut type Material
0 No pendulum action.

The blade moves up and down in a straight line, allowing a smooth but unaggressive cut| All types of cut| Soft steel; stainless steel, sheet metal Plastics
Clean cut in soft wood, plywood Ceramics
1| Light pendulum action| Curved cut| Soft steel, aluminum Plastics Solid wood, particle board
2| Medium pendulum action| Straight cut (by hand)| Fast cut in soft steel, aluminum Plastics
Coarse cut in soft wood, plywood
3| High pendulum action. The blade moves in an elliptical stroke, allowing a more aggressive cut.| Straight cut (with guide)| Fast cut in soft wood, plywood Materials where a
faster and coarser cut is needed.

Tip: If you find the pendulum action setting you have selected is cutting the material too aggressively, you can always change the setting in the middle of the cut.

Bevel cutting

With the base tilted, you can make bevel cuts at a maximum angle of 45°. To set the required angle:

  • Loosen the two screws at the bottom of the base plate with the included hex wrench.
Move the base plate slightly back so that it can move freely.

  • The spaces between the teeth correspond to the angles: 0°, 15°, 35° and 45° on the right and on the left side of the base plate.

  • Slide the base plate to the desired position and then push the base plate forward so that the lug locks between the teeth.

  • Tighten the screws.

Speed adjustment

The speed of the jigsaw may be adjusted depending on how far the ON/OFF switch is pressed. Light pressure on the ON/OFF switch results in low speed. Further pressure on the ON/OFF switch increases the speed.
Adjust the speed to the material of the workpiece.

Dust extraction

The jigsaw has been equipped with a socket intended for connecting the external vacuum cleaner. To do this:

  • Connect the vacuum cleaner adapter to the socket at the back of the jigsaw so that the projections of the adapter fit the notches in the socket.
  • Firmly rotate the adapter anticlockwise until it locks in place.
  • Connect the hose of the vacuum cleaner to the adapter.
  • To disconnect the adapter from the jigsaw, firmly rotate the adapter clockwise until it unlocks and remove it.

WARNING. Do not use dust extraction function when cutting metal. Metal filings may ignite residues of wood dust.
