- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- Be sure that the lid is securely in place before brewing and serving coffee.
- Remove and replace lid carefully.
- Scalding may occur if lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
- Extreme caution must be used when moving a coffee maker containing hot liquids.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
THIS APPLIANCE IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
Important Cord Information
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
- A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if care is properly exercised in its use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
- Connect the power supply cord to a 120VAC electrical outlet only
Before First Use
-
To ensure proper operation, read and follow the instructions carefully and become familiar with the coffee maker parts (Fig. A). Wash the inside of the coffee maker pot with warm, soapy water; be careful not to get the bottom exterior of the pot wet. Rinse thoroughly.
CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock and damage to the coffee maker, do not immerse the coffee maker pot or power base in water or other liquid. If you notice any moisture on the power base or on the bottom exterior of the coffee maker pot, dry thoroughly before use. -
Wash the cover and stainless steel basket assembly in warm, soapy water and rinse. The perk tube, basket, and basket lid can also be cleaned in the dishwasher
How to Use
-
For perfect coffee every time, always fill the coffee maker pot with fresh, COLD water. Fill to the desired level. See the fill level indicator inside the pot on the handle side (Fig. B). The numbers\ indicate the quantity of cups brewed.* Make at least 4 cups at a time to assure best flavor.
IMPORTANT : When making consecutive pots of coffee, always rinse out the coffee maker with vCOLD water. Making coffee in a warm unit may result in weak coffee. -
For best clarity and flavor, use one of the disposable wraparound filters included. Additional filters are available at grocery stores and online. Look for brands such as Brew Rite wraparound-style coffee filters and Melitta wrap coffee filters.
One cup is approximately 5 ounces brewed coffee.
Brew Rite is a registered trademark of Rockline Industries Inc. Melitta is a registered trademark of Melitta Europa GmbH & Co. KG. Presto is not affiliated with these companies. -
Place the center hole of the filter over the basket stem (Fig. C).
-
Add coffee, either regular or percolator grind, to the basket. Then, fold the corner holes of the filter onto the basket stem to cover the coffee. Tuck excess paper into the basket.
-
Check that the washer on the bottom of the perk tube is clean and moves freely before each use. If it does not move freely, clean it with a brush.
-
Cover the basket with the basket lid and place the filled basket onto the perk tube. While holding the top of the perk tube, position the basket assembly in the coffee maker pot so the bowl part of the tube fits in the coffee maker perk well (Fig. D). The perk well is the indented portion in the center of the coffee maker pot.
IMPORTANT : If the perk tube washer does not move freely or is not seated properly in the perk well, the coffee maker will not make coffee or the coffee will be weak. -
Place the cover on the coffee maker and push it down firmly.
-
Unwrap the power cord from the power base. Then set the coffee maker pot on the power base and plug into a standard 120VAC wall outlet. Press the ON/OFF switch down to begin heating. Never heat without water or liquid coffee in the pot.
Note : During the initial uses, you may notice an odor or smoking as the manufacturing residue burns off. -
You will hear the unit begin to perk within 40 seconds of turning the unit on. The signal light comes on automatically when the coffee is ready. To serve coffee, simply lift the pot off the base.
CAUTION! Use proper precautions to prevent the risk of burns. Do not touch the coffee maker’s hot surfaces. While in use, the coffee maker parts, coffee grounds, and coffee may be hot and scalding may occur. After serving, place the pot back on the power base to keep the remaining coffee warm. Be sure the base is plugged in and the pot is turned on. -
When the pot is empty or you no longer want to keep the coffee warm, turn the pot off and unplug the base from the wall outlet.
CAUTION! The coffee maker parts, coffee grounds, and remaining coffee may still be hot. To prevent burns, allow to cool before washing the unit.
The following suggested amounts of coffee can be adjusted according to personal preferences:
CUPS OF BREW | TABLESPOONS OF COFFEE †
4| 3–7
6| 5–10
8| 7–13
10| 8–15
12| 10–16
One cup is approximately 5 ounces brewed coffee.| †4 tablespoons = ¼ cup
Care and Cleaning
-
Allow the coffee maker to cool before cleaning.
-
Hold onto the coffee maker handle with one hand. Position your other hand so that the heel is resting on the cover on the spout side of the coffee maker and your fingers are grasping the cover knob. Pressing down with the heel of your hand, tilt the cover towards the spout side of the coffee maker (Fig. E). Pull the cover off. Discard coffee grounds and filter.
-
Wash and rinse the basket assembly, cover, and inside of the coffee maker pot with warm, soapy water after each use. The spout and perk tube, including the washer, can be cleaned with a brush. The washer on the bottom of the perk tube needs to move freely. The perk tube, basket, and basket lid can also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock and damage to the coffee maker, do not immerse the power base or coffee maker pot in water or other liquid or allow the base or the bottom exterior of the pot to get wet. -
Wipe the outside surface of the pot with a damp cloth. Thoroughly dry with a towel.
NOTICE : Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part of the coffee maker as this may damage the unit.
IMPORTANT : If you notice any moisture on the bottom exterior of the pot, dry thoroughly before use. -
To keep the coffee maker functioning properly, periodically remove oil, stains, and any sediment from inside the coffee maker.\ To clean, add water up to the 12 mark. Then prepare the coffee maker as you would for making a full pot of coffee, except add 3 tablespoons of automatic dishwashing detergent to the basket in place of the coffee and do not use a disposable filter. Once the signal light illuminates, allow the coffee maker pot to remain on the base for 15 to 20 minutes. Pour out the cleaning solution, and then rinse the inside of the coffee maker and the parts with running water. Fill the coffee maker with fresh water up to the 12 mark and perk again. Pour out the water and thoroughly rinse the inside of the coffee maker and the parts. Depending on the severity of the staining, it may be necessary to repeat this cleaning procedure. Always unplug the power base after use.
-
Wrap the power cord in the base for compact storage.
If you think your perked coffee is weak (appears light in color and lacks flavor), check the following:
- Use at least the minimum amount of coffee, as indicated in the chart on page 3, and make sure that an actual measuring tablespoon is used to determine the correct amount.
- The coffee maker needs to be cleaned (see detailed cleaning instructions, step 5 above). Accumulated sediment in the perk well of a coffee maker will negatively affect the perking action.
- Be sure that the washer on the bottom of the perk tube moves freely. If the washer is stuck, clean it with a brush.
- Make sure the bowl part of the perk tube is seated in the perk well inside the pot (Fig. D).
- Before making consecutive pots of coffee, always rinse out the coffee maker with cold water.
