  6. Connecting/Disconnecting a Gas Cylinder:
    • Connecting an LP gas cylinder:
    1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position. Release the control knob.
    2. Take off the protective cap from the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator.
    3. Push an LP gas cylinder into the cylinder valve outlet and turn it clockwise to secure it in place. Do not over-tighten.
    • Disconnecting an LP gas cylinder:
    1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position. Release the control knob.
    2. Turn the LP gas cylinder counter-clockwise by hand to disconnect it from the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator.
    3. Refit the protective caps on the cylinder valve outlet and on the LP gas cylinder.
  7. Gas Leak Test: Before using the appliance, perform a gas leak test by following these steps:
  8. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position.
  9. Release the control knob and turn it further clockwise to the LOCK OFF position.

Before First Use

Preparation

Choosing a suitable location

  • The appliance is for outdoor use only. Do not use it inside a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.
  • Place the appliance on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface.
  • Place the appliance in locations with adequate fresh air ventilation.
  • Keep a minimum clearance of 36 inches (91 cm) from the sides and rear of the appliance to combustible construction. Do not use the appliance under overhead combustible construction.
  • NOTICE Combustible materials are materials made of or surfaced with wood, compressed paper, plant fibers, or other materials that are capable of being ignited and burned. Such material shall be considered combustible even though flame-proofed, fire-retardant treated, or plastered. Combustible materials include lattice, wood, plants, umbrellas, canopies, awnings, and similar items.
  • Do not store a spare LP cylinder under or near the appliance. Keep a minimum distance of 10 feet (3 meters) away from the appliance.
  • Keep young children and pets away from the appliance. When children are near the appliance, they should be carefully supervised by an adult.
  • Combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors or liquids should be situated at least 25 feet (7.5 meters) away from the appliance.

Picking a suitable LP gas cylinder

  • DANGER Risk of fire!
  • Do not store a spare LP gas cylinder under or near this appliance.
  • Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 % full.
  • If the information above is not followed exactly, a fire causing death or serious injury may occur.
  • The liquefied petroleum (LP) cylinder must be constructed and marked in accordance with the specifications for LP Gas Cylinders of the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) or the National Standard of Canada, CAN/CSA-B339, Cylinders, Spheres and
  • Tubes for Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Commission.
  • The appliance must be used with a standard 1 lb (0.45 kg) LP gas cylinder (not included) marked propane.
  • Do not use an LP gas cylinder if it has a damaged valve or shows signs of dents, gouges, bulges, fire damage, corrosion, leakage, excessive rust, or other forms of visual external damage. Have the LP gas cylinder checked immediately by a liquid propane supplier.

Connecting/Disconnecting a Gas Cylinder

Connecting an LP gas cylinder

  1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position (Fig. 1). Release the control knob.
  2. Take the protective cap off the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator (Fig. 2).
  3. Push an LP gas cylinder into the cylinder valve outlet and turn clockwise by hand to secure it in place. Do not over-tighten (Fig. 2).

Disconnecting an LP gas cylinder

  • WARNING Risk of fire or explosion!
  • Disconnect the LP gas cylinder when the appliance is not in use.
  • Do not transport or store the appliance with the LP gas cylinder connected. Before transport or storage, disconnect the LP gas cylinder and store it outdoors.
  • Always cover the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator with the protective cap when an LP gas cylinder is not in use.
  • Do not disconnect the LP gas cylinder while the appliance is in use or is still hot.
  1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position (Fig. 1). Release the control knob.
  2. Turn the LP gas cylinder counter-clockwise by hand to disconnect from the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator (Fig. 3).
  3. Refit the protective caps on the cylinder valve outlet (Fig. 3) and on the LP gas cylinder.

Gas Leak Test

CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARD

  • This appliance can produce carbon monoxide which has no odor. Using it in an enclosed space can kill you. Never use this appliance in an enclosed space such as a camper, tent, car, or home.

DANGER Risk of explosion!

  • Perform a gas leak test on the connection between the gas regulator and the LP gas cylinder when lighting the appliance for the first time, when the LP gas cylinder has been refilled/changed, after a journey over rough or bumpy roads, or after a prolonged period of storage or non-use.
  • Do not smoke or use any type of flammable material in the area during this gas leak test.
  • Do not use an open flame to check for leaks. Always use a soapy water solution.
  1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to the OFF position (Fig. 4).
  2. Release the control knob and turn it further clockwise to the LOCK OFF position (Fig. 4).
  3. Remove the griddle from the appliance.
  4. Place the appliance upside down on a stable and level surface in a well-ventilated area.
  5. Connect an LP gas cylinder to the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator.
  6. Mix a solution of one part of water with one part of liquid soap in a clean bowl (not included) (Fig. 5) with a paintbrush (not included).
  7. Use the paint brush to apply the solution onto the connection between the cylinder valve outlet and the LP gas cylinder (Fig. 6).
  8. Visually inspect for streams of bubbles coming from the connection point. This indicates that there is gas escaping.
    • If no gas bubbles appear at any connections, the connections are secure.
    • If a leak appears, repeat connecting the LP gas cylinder to the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator. Perform a gas leak test after reconnection to ensure a secure and leak-free connection.
    • If a leak continues to appear after reconnection, do not use the appliance. Have the LP gas cylinder checked immediately by a liquid propane supplier.
  9. Wipe the LP gas cylinder and the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator dry with a soft cloth.

Operation

WARNING Risk of fire!

  • Always use the appliance on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface away from combustibles. Do not use this appliance on a wooden or flammable surface.
  • If using this appliance on a wooden deck, or other surface that is not heat-resistant, use heat-resistant material such as concrete pavers, brick, or stone between the appliance and the surface.
  • If an oil/grease fire occurs, keep away from the appliance and immediately call your fire department. Do not attempt to smother the fire or extinguish the fire with water.

WARNING Risk of injury!

  • Only use the appliance when it is completely assembled, with all parts securely fastened and tightened.
  • Always inspect the appliance for gas leaks, burner obstructions, and any abrasion or wear.
  • Keep the appliance away from high wind areas but keep it in a well-ventilated area.

CAUTION Risk of burns!

  • The appliance becomes very hot while in use.
  • Use heat-resistant gloves, long-handled tongs, or insulated mitts at all times.
  • NOTICE When the appliance is not in use, set the control knob to the LOCK OFF position (Fig. 4) to prevent it from being accidentally pushed in and turned. Set the control knob counter-clockwise to OFF position before it can be used.

Checklist before lighting

  1. Read the instruction manual to understand the correct operation and precautions.
  2. Check that all components are properly assembled, intact, and operable.
  3. Visually inspect the appliance for any signs of blockage (debris, insects) on the burner tube or in the burner portholes.
  4. A suitable LP gas cylinder is used (refer to chapter Picking a suitable LP gas cylinder).
  5. Make sure that the top of the LP gas cylinder is clear of debris. Be sure any parts removed during assembly or servicing is replaced and fastened prior to starting.
  6. No alterations have been made to the appliance.
  7. LP gas cylinder is connected correctly (refer to chapter Connecting an LP gas cylinder).
  8. Connections of the appliance and the LP gas cylinder were checked for gas leaks (refer to chapter Gas Leak Test).
  9. The location of the appliance is suitable (refer to chapter Choosing a suitable location).
Lighting instructions

WARNING Risk of fire or explosion!

  • Read instructions before lighting.
  • Do not use spirit, lighter fluid, or petrol for lighting or relighting.
  • If you hear a hissing sound or see/smell gas escaping from the connected LP gas cylinder, do not attempt to light the appliance. Disconnect the LP gas cylinder and reconnect it.
  • If the problem persists, have the LP gas cylinder checked by a liquid propane supplier.
  • If an oil/grease fire occurs, keep away from the appliance and immediately call your fire department. Do not attempt to smother the fire or extinguish the fire with water.
  • Always visually inspect the appliance before lighting.
  • Ensure that there are no signs of blockage (debris, insects) on the burner tube or in the burner portholes.
  1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to OFF position. Release the control knob.
  2. Connect an LP gas cylinder to the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator (refer to chapter Connecting an LP gas cylinder).
  3. Push in the control knob and turn it counter-clockwise to the HIGH position.
  4. Press the igniter button rapidly until you hear a “click” sound which indicates a spark from the igniter. Look for flames to ensure the burner is lit.
    • NOTICE If ignition does not occur in 5 seconds, turn the control knob to OFF position. Wait 5 minutes to allow any accumulated gas to dissipate before attempting to relight the burner. If the burner still does not light, refer to the chapter Manual lighting instructions to light the burner using a matchstick.
  5. After the burner is lit, adjust the temperature setting as desired using the control knob.

Manual lighting instructions

  1. Push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to OFF position. Release the control knob.
  2. Connect an LP gas cylinder to the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator (refer to chapter Connecting an LP gas cylinder).
  3. Remove the griddle from the appliance.
  4. Place a lit matchstick close to the burner portholes.
  5. Push in the control knob and turn it counter-clockwise to the HIGH position. The burner should light immediately.
  6. After the burner is lit, adjust the temperature setting as desired using the control knob.

Flame pattern

  • NOTICE After lighting, visually check the burner flames.
  • A correct flame should be primarily blue with a yellow tip (Fig. 8).
  • An incorrect flame is excessively yellow, orange, or irregular (Fig. 8). If this is the case, clean the oil and food residues on the burner surface and the burner portholes to increase airflow.

Cooking Tips

  • Use different platters and utensils for the cooked meat than the ones used to prepare raw meat to prevent cross-contamination of bacteria.
  • Prepare the cooking recipe, utensils, and all ingredients before cooking.
  • Apply sugar-based sauces near the end of cooking to prevent burning and flare-ups.
  • Always use a food thermometer to determine the internal temperature of the cooked food.

Steak bites

  • Sirloin steak cut into 1‟ pieces 1.5 lbs Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup
  • Soy sauce 1/2 cup Olive oil 1/3 cup
  • Minced garlic 1 tsp Dried basil 2 tbsps

  1. Place all ingredients (except for steak pieces), in a large ziplock bag and mix with a spoon.
  2. Add steak pieces and seal shut. Shake gently to coat the steak pieces entirely in the marinade.
  3. Place the bag in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 3 hours or up to 24 hours.
  4. Heat the griddle over medium-high heat. Brush oil on the griddle.
  5. Remove steak pieces from the marinade using a slotted spoon and place them on the hot griddle.
  6. Discard marinade. Cook steak according to the desired temperature.
Fried chicken

  1. Preheat the griddle to a medium-high heat.
  2. Mix the flour, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and turmeric in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. Carefully slice the chicken breast pieces in half to make them thinner.
  4. Dust the chicken breast pieces generously with the flour mixture and lightly pat them so that they stick.
  5. Add a generous amount of oil and butter to the griddle.
  6. Cook the chicken until golden brown, flipping once during cooking. It takes about 12 minutes.

Grilled burrito

  1. Heat the griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Put the tortillas together by spreading a 1/2 cup of cheese, 1/2 cup of rice, and 1/2 cup of meat in the center of each tortilla.
  3. Fold in the sides, then roll up.
  4. Brush each tortilla with olive oil, then place on the griddle with seam-side down.
  5. Grill each side for 5 – 6 minutes, or until browned and crispy.
  6. Served with sour cream, salsa, or hot sauce.

Asparagus with serrano ham

  1. Wash and trim the asparagus to even lengths.
  2. Split each ham slice in two lengthways, and wind around the asparagus diagonally.
  3. Heat the oil and butter on the griddle.
  4. Add the asparagus for 2 minutes on each side.
  5. Season and serve.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning

WARNING Risk of injury!

  • Always allow the appliance to cool down, set the control knob to the LOCK OFF position, and disconnect the LP gas cylinder prior to cleaning.
  • Clean the appliance regularly to prevent grease buildup, grease fires, or excessive flare-ups.
  • To clean the appliance, wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • Never use corrosive detergents, wire brushes, abrasive scourers, or metal or sharp utensils to clean the appliance.

Griddle and drip tray

NOTICE Clean the griddle and drip tray after each use.

  1. Use a flat-head spatula to remove all food residues and debris from the top surface of the griddle and drip tray.
  2. Dip a sponge in warm-hot water and gently scrub the griddle and drip tray down.
  3. Wipe the griddle and drip tray dry with a soft cloth.

Burner components

WARNING Risk of injury!

  • Check and clean the burner tubes regularly for insects and insect nests. In cases of severe blockage, this can cause the flames to burn backward, and outside of the burner tube.
  • NOTICE Clean the burner components every 5 to 6 uses.
  • Clean the outer surface of the burner to remove food residue and dirt with a wire brush.
  • Use a narrow bottle brush with a flexible handle to run through the burner tube several times.
  • Clean any blocked burner portholes with a stiff wire such as an open paper clip.
Storage

Storing the appliance

  • CAUTION Risk of injury!
  • Storage of the appliance indoors is permissible only if the LP gas cylinder is disconnected and removed from the appliance.
  • Disconnect the LP gas cylinder. Attach the protective cap back onto the cylinder valve outlet of the gas regulator.
  • Keep the appliance under a cover in a garage or shed, with the LP gas cylinder removed.

Storing the LP gas cylinder

  • WARNING Risk of explosion!
  • Do not smoke while moving the LP gas cylinder.

  • Store the LP gas cylinder outdoors out of reach of children. Do not store it in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.
  • Screw the cap back onto the disconnected LP gas cylinder tightly.
  • Never leave the LP gas cylinder exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
  • Check for leaks after long periods of storage. Perform a gas leak test (refer to chapter Gas Leak Test) before using the appliance.

Maintenance

  • Regularly check that all the components and fasteners are tightened.
