  • Safety Warning
    • Please read the wiring and grounding instructions provided in HINKLEY I.S. 18.
    • It is important to turn off the power supply during installation.
    • If new wiring is needed, it is recommended to consult a qualified electrician or local authorities to ensure compliance with code requirements.
  • Wiring Instructions for Indoor Fixtures
    • Connect the positive supply wire (A) to the positive fixture lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector. The positive supply wire is typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord.
    • Connect the negative supply wire (C) to the negative fixture lead (D). The negative supply wire is typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord.
    • Refer to the grounding instructions below for completing all electrical connections.
  • Wiring Instructions for Outdoor Fixtures
    • Connect the positive supply wire (A) to the positive fixture lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector. The positive supply wire is typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord.
    • Connect the negative supply wire (C) to the negative fixture lead (D). The negative supply wire is typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord.
    • Cover the open end of connectors with silicone sealant to create a watertight seal.
    • If installing a wall mount fixture, use caulk to seal gaps between the fixture mounting plate (backplate) and the wall. This helps prevent water from entering the outlet box. If the wall surface is lap siding, use caulk and a fixture mounting platform specially designed for this purpose.
    • Refer to the grounding instructions below for completing all electrical connections.

Grounding Instructions

For Flush Mount Fixtures:

  • Fasten the fixture ground wire (E), typically copper or green plastic coated, to the fixture mounting strap (M) using the ground screw (S). Refer to Drawing 1 for visual reference.

Note: On straps for screw-supported fixtures, first install the two mounting screws in the strap. Any remaining tapped hole may be used for the ground screw.

For Chain Hung Fixtures:

  • Loop the fixture ground wire (E), typically copper or green plastic coated, under the head of the ground screw (S) on the fixture mounting strap (M).
  • Connect the loose end of the fixture ground wire directly to the ground wire of the building system using appropriately sized twist-on connectors. Refer to Drawing 2 for visual reference
