INSTRUCTIONS
Substrate preparation
- Dumawall XL and Dumawall + may be fixed to most substrates.
- Check the substrate is level and true.
- ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, smooth, and free from dust, grease, solvent, wax, etc.
- Lightly sand glossy surfaces to remove sheen.
Dry layout
- Complete a dry layout before applying any adhesive.
- A dry layout is important to ensure that the final placement of Dumawall XL or Dumawall + panels are square and true. It will highlight if adjustments are needed to walls that are out of square or if panels or tiles need to be trimmed because of wall, floor or ceiling alignment.
- Dumawall + may be laid in a stack or stretcher pattern configuration.
- Arrange panels or tiles with equal margins to ensure small unsightly off-cuts are not required. Ensure allowances are made for the trim installation.
Tile/panel placement
- Lay Dumawall XL or Dumawall + from right to left. This will ensure that the panels or tiles are correctly and securely interlocked—tongue into groove.
Gluing
- Before applying adhesive, wipe the back surface of panel or tile with a damp cloth.
- Apply a 5 mm bead of adhesive to the back of the Dumawall XL or Dumawall + in a zigzag pattern with voids no greater than 50 mm. Apply a continuous bead 1 cm from the edge, around the perimeter.
- Press the Dumawall XL or Dumawall + in place. Apply even pressure across the panel/tile.
- Remove excess adhesive while it is still wet, using a damp cloth.
- Allow the adhesive on the first row to set before applying the next row or install temporary support such as removable braids or nails.
Trimming
- Cut Dumawall XL or Dumawall + using standard wood-working tools e.g., table saw or circular saw with a fine-tooth blade (60 tooth or higher) to provide a clean, smooth cut.
- Apply painter’s tape to the line of cut to minimise chip out and to protect the Dumawall XL or Dumawall + surface.
- Alternatively, score the Dumawall XL or Dumawall + with a utility or sharp scoring knife, snap the panel/tile at the line, and sand edge if necessary.
- Trimming – Skill saw
- Trimming – Utility knife
Creating openings
- To create openings for outlets and switches, mark the area to be removed. At the corner, drill a hole (15-18 mm diameter) and cut the remainder of the hole with a fine-tooth jigsaw. A jigsaw could create scratches to the surface finish, so cutting from the reverse side is recommended.
- For circular holes use a hole saw or drill a series of holes as close as possible to the other using a sharp 3.5 mm – 5.0 mm speed bit. Finish off with a utility knife and push waste material through.
- Remove edge profiles (tongue or groove) using a utility knife or table saw.
Corner and top and bottom row instructions
- Where a panel/tile butts up to a corner or where the tile is the top or bottom tile, remove the edge profile to allow for a clean 90° edge.
Tiling around a shower, vanity, bath base
Shower trays
- Treat in the same manner as for installing any wall lining. Overlap the top edge of the shower tray, while maintaining an open gap of approximately 5.0 mm (anti-capillary) between the edge of the shower tray and the panel/tile.
- A bead of silicon should be applied to the upper edge of the tray lip or flange before the panel/tile is installed.
Bath wall junction
- Most new baths or basins come complete with a raised lip or flange on the top edge. The same principles of the shower installation apply.
- If your bath does not have either, a proprietary flashing is the simplest solution to waterproof these junctions. Ensure the flashing has sufficient cover over the fixture edge.
Sealant for wet area instructions
- Apply a thin bead (2.0 mm – 3.0 mm) of sealant to the connecting edge of each Dumawall XL panel or Dumawall + tile on both vertical and horizontal edge profiles.
- Apply a thin bead of sealant along cut edges or edges placed in corners if not using trims.
- Apply sealant in the trim channel if corner trims are used.
- Where possible remove excess silicon before it cures.
- Substrate panel.
- Dumawall XL or Dumawall + adhered to the substrate panel.
- Internal and external, aluminium or uPVC trim.
- Apply a thin layer of sealant into the trim groove then fit the Dumawall tile.
- Dumawall aluminium trims must be used to finish off the edges, internal and external corners, or junctions to fittings or fixtures.
- Attach inside/outside corner trims with adhesive to the substrate, using a small bead of adhesive.
- Apply a bead of sealant into each of the channels of the trim to prevent water reaching the substrate.
- Attach finishing trims (to finish the terminal end of panels/tiles) by sliding into place on the panel’s/tile’s edge.
- Ensure adhesive is not applied a few centimetres from the edge of the tile or panel.
- Apply a bead of sealant into the receiving channel of the trim and press into place.
- Attach L trims (to cover existing exposed tiles) by pressing the trim into place with a bead of sealant on both the panel/tile and the substrate.
MAINTENANCE
Care and maintenance instructions
- The Dumawall XL and Dumawall + require simple, regular cleaning. They are water-resistant and so fully washable.
- Clean regularly using non-abrasive, household cleaning agent. Polish the panels/tiles to their original condition using a damp, soft cloth.
- Do not use abrasive, aggressive substances, chloride-based cleaning products, or solvents.
