Ceramic Wall & Floor Tiles: Useful Laying Instructions
- The surface where the tiles are to be laid must be properly finished and should not be uneven.
- Ceramic tiles should be soaked in water, minimum 2 hrs. before laying.
- After receiving the tiles at site, first please segregate the tiles boxes according to batch no. & manufacturing date. Before laying, tiles boxes should be stacked vertically to avoid breakage & chipping in tiles.
- Neat cement should not be used for fixing tiles. Doing so may lead to cracks on the surface of the tiles due to hydration heat generated by cement. Tiles should be fixed either by cement & sand mortar as per the suggested ratio by engineer or architect or a good quality tile adhesive.
- Before fixing the tiles, dry layout of tiles should be made in the desired pattern to ensure an acceptable blend of shade and design. Then fix the tiles with cement mortar or adhesive.
- Please note that certain amount of shade and size variation is inherent in the manufacturing of tiles. The company will bear no liability after the tiles are fixed.
- Arrow Mark (1’or K) on the back of the tile should always be followed in one direction only, for proper alignment & design.
- As part of internationally accepted practices, laying of tiles with spaces of 2-5mm is always recommended. It enhances the beauty of the space.
- Since most of the carpentry, electrical or interior works are done after the installation of tiles, it is important to provide protective cover on the surface of the tiles. It is recommended to use thick plastic sheet layer/POP on the surface and this shouldn’t be opened until the area becomes ready for occupation.
