Getting Started

  • We recommend that you:
  • Unpack the equipment carefully and save the original box and packaging materials for possible future shipment
  • Review the contents of this user manual
  • Go to http://www.kramerelectronics.com to check for up-to-date user manuals, application programs, and to check if firmware upgrades are available (where appropriate).

Achieving the Best Performance
To achieve the best performance:

  • Use only good quality connection cables (we recommend Kramer highperformance, high-resolution cables) to avoid interference, deterioration in signal quality due to poor matching, and elevated noise levels (often associated with low quality cables)
  • Do not secure the cables in tight bundles or roll the slack into tight coils
  • Avoid interference from neighboring electrical appliances that may adversely influence signal quality
  • Position your Kramer 104LN away from moisture, excessive sunlight and dust
  • This equipment is to be used only inside a building. It may only be connected to other equipment that is installed inside a building.

Safety Instructions

Caution:
There are no operator serviceable parts inside the unit
Warning:
Use only the Kramer Electronics input power wall adapter that is provided with the unit
Warning:
Disconnect the power and unplug the unit from the wall before installing

Overview

  • The 104LN is a high-performance distribution amplifier and line driver for composite and SDI video signals.
  • The 104LN 1:4 Differential Video Line Amplifier features:
  • One composite video input and 4 identical buffered outputs
  • Recessed gain and EQ. (equalization) trimmer controls that compensate for signal losses inherent in long cable runs
  • Differential input that eliminates common mode noise picked up by the input cable, and supports long cables (letting you locate it anywhere in the distribution chain)
  • Bandwidth exceeding 400MHz, ensuring transparency in the most critical applications
  • Full DC coupling, ensuring signal linearity and flatness

Defining the 104LN 1:4 Differential Video Line Amplifier
This section defines the 104LN.

# Feature Function
1 INPUT BNC Connector Connects to the composite video source
2 OUT 1 BNC Connector Connects to composite video acceptor 1
3 OUT 2 BNC Connector Connects to composite video acceptor 2
4 OUT 3 BNC Connector Connects to composite video acceptor 3
5 OUT 4 BNC Connector Connects to composite video acceptor 4
6 12V DC +12V DC connector for powering the unit
7 LEVEL Trimmer Adjusts the output signal level for outputs 1, 2, 3 and 4

Insert a screwdriver into the hole and carefully rotate it, to trim the level

8| EQ. Trimmer| Adjusts the cable compensation equalization level
9| ON LED| Illuminates when receiving power

  • By default, the INPUT GROUND switch is set to FLOAT (the input signal is isolated from the chassis). If the image appears noisy, set the switch to ON (the input signal is grounded to the chassis).

Connecting the 104LN

Always switch off the power to each device before connecting it to your 104LN. After connecting your 104LN, connect its power and then switch on the power to each device.
To connect the 104LN 1:4 Differential Video Line Amplifier, as the example in Figure 3 illustrates, connect the following:

  1. Connect a composite video source (for example, a satellite decoder and receiver) to the INPUT BNC connector.
  2. Connect the four OUT BNC connectors to up to four composite video acceptors, as follows:
    • Connect the OUT 1 connector to video acceptor 1 (for example, a video recorder)
    • Connect the OUT 2 connector to video acceptor 2 (for example, a video display)
    • Connect the OUT 3 connector to video acceptor 3 (for example, a video display)
    • Connect the OUT 4 connector to video acceptor 4 (for example, a video display)
  3. Adjust the output signal level and/or cable compensation equalization level, if required.
  4. If the image appears noisy, set the INPUT GROUND to either ON or FLOAT to lower the noise level.
