Requirements
Windows PC with the following applications/services installed:
- Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 or later [incl. in automatic Windows Updates]
- Audinate Dante Controller V4.9.0 or later
- Network I/O Updater 1.11.5.55670
- Dante Domain Manager login credentials [DDM managed networks only]
- All devices on minimum Network I/O V4.2 package prior to updating
Important Notes
Dante Domain Manager Networks
The Network I/O Updater application will need to log in to the respective
domain(s) to complete SSL firmware updates when programming devices across the
network.
Alternatively, if devices are taken ‘offline’ and connected to directly, the
devices must be un-enrolled from domains first to permit offline connection
away from the DDM server, then enrolled again into the correct domains once
completed. This process should be discussed with those responsible for
managing DDM and the Dante network in general prior to attempting updates.
Updating Multiple Devices
It is possible to programme Dante firmware file onto multiple devices
simultaneously, provided they are the same device type/model and Brooklyn
variant.
It is not possible to programme SSL firmware onto multiple devices
simultaneously. Running multiple instances of the Network I/O Updater
application on the same network will conflict and cancel firmware updates.
Application Installer Changes
Following Microsoft advice for apps within Windows 10 onwards, SSL application
installers have no automatic
Desktop shortcut, no version numbers in Start Menu shortcuts and no Start Menu
shortcuts to uninstallers.
Audinate’s Dante Firmware Update Manager is obsolete and replaced by Dante
Updater within the Dante Controller application. Firmware Update Manager is
not compatible with Brooklyn 3 firmware files and not supported for this
release.
Included Firmware
For convenience, all current Dante firmware files for SSL stageboxes,
interfaces, bridges and consoles are included in this package. For mainboard
firmware dependencies not detailed in this document, please refer to previous
release notes or contact your local SSL Support office.
Release Notes
New Features and Improvements
- 36859: SNMP support from Network I/O Controller providing PSU status, NIC status and Device name to external SNMP system
- 39378: MADI Bridge added to Network I/O Controller for GPIO and SNMP
- 44614: SPI updates for 62D241Xn card for use with Bk3
Bug Fixes
- 43377: Bk3 devices enrolled in a Dante Domain in DDM cannot be controlled by Network IO Controller, System T or Live consoles logged into that domain – Device provides incorrect devices ID response (Audinate ETS-3784 resolved in v4.2.5.3)
- 42962: SB32.24 & SB16.12 Ch1 output intermittent delay issue
Firmware Update Procedure
Dante Firmware
Dante firmware files are included in the V4.4 package so that this procedure
can be completed without internet access being required, by manually importing
files. The following steps detail this ‘offline’ method.
Dante firmware files are also available from the Dante Updater Online Library
– refer to the Dante Updater User Guide for further details as required.
The Dante firmware version is visible in Dante Controller>Device View>Status
under Manufacturer Information>Product Version. Check product versions against
the firmware look-up tables included later in this document to determine what
devices need updating.
-
Ensure that the latest version of Dante Controller is installed and that all required devices are visible, then launch the Dante Updater feature of the application. This will open a dedicated application window, and the launch button is indicated below:
-
Click on the drop-down menu in the top-right of the Dante Updater window to access Advanced Settings. Enable the checkbox next to Allow Imported Firmware then Apply.
-
Navigate to Library>Imported Files and expand this section by clicking on the drop-down arrow. Use the Import Firmware button in the bottom-right of the window to add the individual .dnt files supplied with this Network I/O package. Note that it is only possible to add each file one at a time.
-
Navigate to the Home>Imported Firmware Files, expanding the section by clicking the dropdown arrow. This list will show detected devices compatible with the files that have been added. Use the dropdown arrow to spill out details for the device. New firmware is loaded using the UPGRADE button in the ACTION column. A progress bar will be shown while this completes. For devices comprising multiple Brooklyn cards (SB32.24 and 16.12) update both cards prior to rebooting.
-
Once Dante updates are complete, power-cycle the stagebox and test for correct operation.
SSL Firmware
- Install the SSL Network I/O Updater application onto the PC Connect the PC being used to perform the updates.
- Connect the PC to the Dante Primary network, then right-click the application and select Run as administrator to launch.
- The application will discover all Network I/O devices and display the currently installed firmware version. If an update is necessary, the required version will be displayed, and the Update button will be active:
- Press-and-hold the Update button to begin programming firmware. This update will take approximately 10-15 minutes depending on the unit being updated:
- Once programming is complete, click OK and power cycle the unit. Wait for the device to appear in Network I/O Updater again and confirm that the Current Version and Required Version match.
Install SSL Network I/O Controller
The latest version of SSL Network IO Controller must be installed on any PCs that may be used to control Network I/O units. Newer Network I/O firmware is not backwards compatible/tested with older software.
- Run the Network IO Controller installer included in this package and follow the on-screen instructions.
- You may be prompted to restart your PC upon completion. The app can be launched from the Start menu by typing ‘Network IO Controller’.
- [Optional] Right-click on the app icon in the Start menu then Open file location. Copy and paste the app shortcut to the Desktop.
Software and Firmware Version Compatibility Overview
For Network I/O devices used in a shared network environment, all devices
including any SSL Live and SystemT consoles should be updated at the same
time. Other software applications and tools on the network may also have
dependencies. To assist with updates SSL, publish a list of versions tested
alongside each console release. The table below is current at the time of this
release.
Audinate manage forward and backward compatibility for Dante implementations
and applications. Other Audinate software versions will work with the console
software releases; this list documents what has been tested at SSL. Numbers in
bold denote new versions.
Note that ‘Mk1’ and ‘Mk2’ SB 32.24/SB 16.12 stageboxes are automatically
differentiated by Network I/O Updater to ensure the correct SSL firmware is
loaded – no manual selection is required. Mk1 and Mk2 designation refers to
internal SSL cards and not the Dante Brooklyn module.
Devices fitted with Brooklyn 2 or 3 variants are denoted with ‘Bk2’ and ‘Bk3’
respectively in the table below.
This reference is also included in the Dante firmware (.dnt) file name.
