MXL 910 Condenser Microphone
Thank you for purchasing the MXL 910 large diaphragm condenser microphone. With proper care, this mic will provide many years of satisfaction. For best results, please take a few moments to review this literature.
Enjoy your microphone!
DESCRIPTION
The 910 microphone has a 6-micron gold-sputtered diaphragm and a cardioid pickup pattern. Condenser microphones are very sensitive, readily revealing very subtle sonic details. They also tend to pick up sounds outside the pattern more than some designs, which can lead to powerful feedback if you are not careful. We strongly advise experimentation with placement and isolation requirements with the gain initially set low to avoid equipment (and hearing) damage.
If any of these items are missing or damaged, contact the company from which you purchased the microphone.

Power Requirement
IMPORTANT – This unit requires phantom power at 48 volts, ± 4 volts. Each unit has been thoroughly checked before shipping, so if you do not hear sound, check that the phantom power on your mixer or separate power supply is switched on. -
Microphone Cable
This microphone connects to a mixer or preamp via an XLR cable (not included). The microphone cable can have a profound effect on the sound of any microphone. Even the finest microphones will sound poor if the interconnect cable allows noise to enter, or causes distortion and loss of information. Use only the best microphone cable your budget will allow. We recommend Mogami cable for the best results. -
Care
Dust and foreign material can degrade the performance of a microphone over time so always store the unit in its case. For vocals closer than 3”, use a pop filter or a foam windscreen to avoid getting moisture on the diaphragm as this can substantially degrade the microphone’s performance. Store the microphone in its original packaging in a cool, dry place along with the included packet of silica gel. These steps will help keep the mic in proper working order and sound its best for many years to come.

HOW TO USE
- Positioning: Position the microphone at a distance of 6-12 inches from the sound source for vocal recordings. Experiment with placement to achieve the desired sound quality.
- Polar Pattern: Familiarize yourself with the microphone’s polar pattern to understand how it captures sound from different directions, helping you achieve your recording goals effectively.
- Pop Filter: Consider using a pop filter or foam windscreen to mitigate plosive sounds (e.g., “p” and “b” sounds) when recording vocals up close.
MAINTENANCE
- Cleaning: Regularly use a soft, non-abrasive cloth to wipe down the microphone grille and body, removing dust and fingerprints.
- Storage: When not in use, protect the microphone by storing it in a suitable case to prevent damage and the accumulation of dust.

- Shock Mount: Consider employing a shock mount to reduce vibrations and handling noise, especially when mounting the microphone on a stand.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- No Sound: If there’s no audio output, consider these steps:
- Verify that the microphone is correctly connected to your audio interface or mixer.
- Ensure that the phantom power feature is activated on your audio equipment.
- Inspect the XLR cable for damage or loose connections.
- Distorted Sound: If you encounter distorted audio, try reducing the input gain on your audio interface or mixer to prevent overloading the microphone.
- Background Noise: To minimize background noise, position the microphone in close proximity to the sound source while avoiding placement near sources of noise, such as fans or air conditioning units.
