Instructions
- Print the pattern page and measure the 1 test square to ensure printing is to scale. Print with Adobe Acrobat for best results. Printer should be set at 100%.
- Cut around the 6 x 9 rectangle and use it to cut front and back fabric from wool and flannel.
- Trace the applique pieces onto freezer paper. Rough cut around the shapes. Attach shapes to the wool (shiny side down) and adhere with hot iron. Cut carefully around the shapes.
- Attach the green grass section to the main fabric and blanket stitch. Add backstitch grass details at the end after attaching animal and egg shapes.
- Attach animal shapes with a whip stitch and overlap on the green grass shape.
- Blanket stitch egg, heart, and sun. Use backstitch for sun’s rays and chickie legs.
- Turn the mug rug over and add strips of fusible web** along the edges. Place the flannel backing wrong sides together and press.
- Blanket stitch the edges coming up between the flannel and the wool and the sticky fusible. After blanket stitching, press againto hold the threads in place. Trim threads from the back.
Note: The pattern provides information on using fusible web for attaching the fabrics. However, pins can be used instead if preferred.
If you encounter any errors in the pattern or instructions, please notify the pattern creator.
For a visual guide, you can watch the Bunny Love Mug Rug Sewing Video Tutorial available on Sew Outside the Box’s YouTube channel.
The pattern is reversible if using fusible web and right side up if using freezer paper. Both methods will work for creating the mugrug.
Test Square: This square is provided as a reference to ensure that the pattern is printed to scale. Measure this square to confirm accurate printing.

I used 1/4” fusible double-sided tape. Any fusible will work as long as it’s cut into strips. If you prefer to not use fusible just hold the front and back together with pins.
I do my best to make correct patterns, however; errors do sometimes occur. Please notify me if you find an error in the pattern or instructions.
