IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
When using this product, basic precautions should always be followed,
including the following:
- Read all the instructions before using the product.
- To reduce the risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when the product is used near children.
- Do not put your fingers or hands into the product.
- Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by a power pack manufacturer may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the electric plug and cord, pull the plug rather than the cord when disconnecting the power pack.
- Do not use a battery pack or appliance that is damaged or modified. Damage or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
- Do not operate the power pack with a damaged cord or plug, or a damaged output cable.
- Do not disassemble the power pack, take it to a qualified service person when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of fire or electrical shock.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the power pack from the outlet before attempting any instructed servicing.
- WARNING – RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES.
- WORKING IN VICINITY OF A LEAD-ACID BATTERY IS DANGEROUS. BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE GASES DURING NORMAL BATTERY OPERATION. FOR THIS REASON, IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EACH TIME YOU USE THE POWER PACK.
- To reduce risk of battery explosion, follow these instructions and those published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery. Review cautionary markings on these products and on the engine.
- PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
- Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you work near a lead-acid battery.
- Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or eyes.
- Wear complete eye protection and clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working near the battery.
- If battery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water. If acid enters the eye, immediately flood eye with running cold water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention immediately.
- NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of the battery or engine.
- Be extra cautious to reduce risk of dropping a metal tool onto the battery. It might spark or short-circuit the battery or another electrical part that may cause an explosion.
- Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, and watches when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead- acid battery can produce a short-circuit current high enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing a severe burn.
- When charging the internal battery, work in a well-ventilated area and do not restrict ventilation in any way.
- Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts the eyes, seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
- Do not expose a power pack to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 104° F may cause an explosion.
- Have servicing performed by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the product is maintained.
- Attach output cables to a battery and chassis as indicated below. Never allow the output clamps to touch one another.
- The Jump Starter must be fully charged. Recharge as needed, according to the Charging the Jump Starter section on page 7.
- Turn off the vehicle ignition switch and all accessories (lights, radio, climate control, etc.).
- Insert the Jumper Cable into the ‘Engine Start’ port on the Jump Starter. If properly connected to the Jump Starter, the Clamp’s LED light will start flashing green, indicating ‘Standby’ mode.
- Connect the red Positive Battery Cable to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Connect the black Negative Battery Cable to the vehicle chassis. The Clamp’s green LED light will turn to solid green, indicating ‘Ready’ mode.
- Attempt to start the vehicle. If the Vehicle does not start right away, wait 20-30 seconds while the clamps are connected to the battery and the Jump Starter is on to allow boosting the discharged battery, and try again. Do not attempt more than 5 consecutive jumps within a 15-minute period. Allow the Jump Starter to rest for at least 15 minutes before attempting to jump-start the vehicle again.
- After the vehicle is started, first remove the Cable from the Jump Starter, then remove the black Negative Battery Cable, and lastly the red Positive Battery Cable.
- Recharge the Jump Starter if the battery level is below 50%, or every 3-6 months.
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating the Jump Starter. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
- Store idle equipment. Always lock up tools and keep them out of reach of children.
- Do not leave the Jump Starter unattended while switched on. It could result in fire and property damage.
- Do not be exposed to rain or wet conditions. Water entering the Jump Starter will increase the risk of fire.
- Wear ANSI-approved splash-resistant safety goggles and heavy-duty rubber work gloves whenever connecting, disconnecting, or working near battery. Battery acid can cause permanent blindness. Avoid touching eyes while working near the battery.
- Do not use Jump Starter while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating Jump Starter may result in serious personal injury.
- People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure.
- Maintain labels and nameplates on the Jump Starter. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
- The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors that cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
