Yale YSB-400-EB1 Office Safe Box
Product Information
The Yale Safe is a secure storage solution designed to protect your valuable items. It is available in various models, including YSB/200/EB1, YSB/250/EB1, YSB/400/EB1, YLB/200/EB1, YSM/250/EG1, YSM/400/EG1, YSM/520/EG1, and YLM/200/EG1. The safe is manufactured by ASSA ABLOY Group, a trusted brand in the industry.
Safe Overview
The safe features a display, keypad, concealed override keyhole, LED interior lights (on some models), battery compartment, and locking bolts. It is important to keep the user manual for future reference.
Installing the Batteries
- Follow the instructions under “Using the manual override key” to open the safe.
- Remove the battery cover located on the rear of the door.
- Place the batteries in the battery compartment according to the illustration at the back. Close the battery compartment once the batteries are installed.
- When the batteries need to be changed, the display will show a warning message and emit a sound. Please refer to the user manual for battery replacement instructions.
- Note that changing batteries will not reset your user code.
Securing the Safe
To reduce the risk of theft, it is crucial to securely fix the safe. Use the included bolts and secure it to a solid concrete floor. For proper installation and maximum performance, it is recommended to have a professional locksmith install the safe. Incorrect installation may result in injury due to the weight of the product.
Setting/Re-setting Your User Code
- Unlock the safe using the manual override key if necessary.
- Press and hold the “+” button and simultaneously press the “code” button. The display will show a prompt.
- Enter a code of your choice (between 3-8 digits) and press the “code” button. You will be asked to repeat the code.
- Re-enter your code and press the “code” button.
- A confirmation sound and display message will confirm that you have programmed a new user code. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if no confirmation is received.
- If you forget your code, use the manual override key to open the safe and re-set the code.
- Note that changing batteries does not require reprogramming your user code.
Opening and Closing the Safe
- To open the safe, press the “code” button.
- Enter your user code using the keypad and press the “code” button.
- If the code is correct, you will hear a confirmation sound and the door will open.
- To close the safe, close the door and press the “close door” button followed by the “code” button. The bolts will engage, locking the door.
- If an incorrect user code is entered four consecutive times, an alarm will sound for approximately one minute, during which the safe cannot be opened with the electronic lock.
Using the Manual Override Key
To open the safe using the manual override key, insert the key into the keyhole located behind the Yale logo on the safe door. Turn the key clockwise twice to fully retract the locking bolts.
Re-activating the Interior Light
Some models of the safe may have an interior light feature. To activate or deactivate the interior light, press the respective button on the keypad.

- Place the batteries according to the illustration at the back of the battery compartment. Once the batteries are installed, close the battery compartment.
Before using your Yale safe you must insert batteries. The safe requires 4 “AA” (1.5V R06) – which are included. When batteries need changing the display will show together with a warning sound when you press .
Set /re-set your user code

The code may only be programmed when the safe is unlocked: if necessary use the override key to open the safe.

Press and hold and simultaneously press . The display will show .

Enter the code of your choice (between 3-8 digits) then press . You will now be asked to repeat the code you just entered (the display shows ). Re-enter your code and press .

A sound and the display will confirm that you have programmed a new code. If you hear a sound and the display reads , repeat step 2 and 3.
- If you have forgotten your code, use the manual override key to open the safe and re-set the code.
- Please note, your user code does not have to be reprogrammed when you change the batteries.

- Close the safe door.
- Press followed by .
The bolts engage, locking the door, and the display shows .
Please note, if the incorrect user code is entered you will hear a beep, the display will show and the door will not open. If the wrong user code is entered 4 consecutive times an alarm will sound for approximately 1 minute, during which you will not be able to open the safe with the electronic lock.
Using the manual override key
- To open the safe place the key in the key hole behind the Yale logo. The key can only be inserted one way, Yale logo on key head facing down. Turn the key clockwise twice to fully retract the locking bolts.
Please do not store the mechanical override keys inside the safe.
Please note, for security reasons the key can not be removed and the electronic lock is deactivated when the safe is opened using the mechanical override key. To remove the key, you must lock the safe using the key
Re-activating the interior light
(Only available on some models)
- To re-activate the light press .
The display shows and the light will be turned on for another 30 seconds.
The light is automatically activated when the safe door is opened with the electronic keypad. The light can be reactivated at any time.
Show/hide digits while entering code
- Press and hold and simultaneously press to change the setting.
- If display shows no input digits will be visible in the display when a code is entered.
- If display shows the code will be visible in the display when a code is entered.
Turning sound on/off
- Press and hold and simultaneously press the to change the setting.
- If display shows this means that audio feedback when operating the safe is turned off.
- If display shows this means that audio feedback when operating the safe is turned on.
