INSTALLATION GUIDE
Corner Epoxy Cove Base
- Easycove® coving outperforms all other coving solutions in impact, tensile strength, bond strength and fire resistance
- Uniquely engineered interlocking bond channels creates a mechanical bond to the substrate for watertight applications
- Manufactured to have an expansion coefficient similar to epoxy, this feature helps to eliminate cracking and separation
Tools & Materials
Easycove® Coving Material Tape Measure Pencil
Epoxy Adhesive Tube and Dual Cartridge Caulk Gun for Application
Miter Saw, Hand Saw, or Utility Knife Easycove® Join and Seal
Optional: Finishing Epoxy
Optional: Flake Material
To Coat or Not to Coat
Easycove® coving is easily coated. Its physical properties mimic that of epoxy troweled cove. Easycove® coving can be coated using brush, roll or spray – prior to or after flooring installs.
When coating prior to installation:
- Once Easycove® coving has been cut to the desired lengths, number your coving pieces for faster installation.
- Make sure walls are completely clean and properly prepared
- Lay Easycove® coving in a dust free zone.
- Make sure coating is thoroughly dry prior to installing Easycove® coving.
When coating after installation:
- Once Easycove® coving has been installed, allow adhesive set completey
- Make sure coving is completely clean prior to coating.
Preparation
-
Once Easycove® coving is removed from the box, it should be stored in a warm area, completely flat. A hot air gun may be helpful to help the material relax in colder temperatures.
-
Easycove® coving should be applied at operating temperature of the room whenever possible.
Substrate should be solid and ideally prepared to the original structural material. Whenever applying Easycove® coving over a previously painted surface, the bond will only be as good as the coating that Easycove® cove is adhered to. -
Rough walls need grinding or sanding, ideally prepared to the original structural material. 1
-
Epoxy and other resinous coatings can be applied to the cove prior to installation.
-
Easycove® can also be installed after floor coatings for a smooth seamless look.
-
Floors and Walls should be vacuumed.
-
Block should be diamond ground and prepared to a sound substrate 2
Measure Twice, Cut Once
- Once substrate is prepared and the floors and walls have been vacuumed, measure and cut the Easycove® coving to the required length. 3
- Easycove® recommends you use a miter saw to ensure clean and even edges. However, when time requires, a utility knife or hand saw can be as effective.
- A miter saw allows for greater accuracy when 45 degree angles are required, also giving you the freedom to make your own corners.
- Easycove® offers inside and outside 4” and 6” corners.
Joints & Corners
Easycove® Pre‐Formed Cove Base Corners
- Easycove® coving can be mitered to any angle, and with the added feature of the DoveLock™ bond channels, can accommodate any inside or outside angle.
- Easycove® pre‐formed cove base corners, further encourages saving time, reductions in materials and labor costs, and continued ease of typical coving installations.
- Easycove® pre- formed cove base corners replicate the unique DoveLock™ engineering, and can save crucial time and money.
- Easycove® pre- formed corners should be installed with the same guidelines as straight Easycove® coving.
Joints, Corners and Transitions:
As for any cove base, joints may show if only light coverage is applied over
cove. Easycove® adhesive or similar 2‐part epoxy is suggested for filling
joints to provide a smooth transition and to help make cove appear seamless.
Installation
-
Easycove® Adhesive
This 100% solids, fast drying two part epoxy adhesive is recommended for superior bond strength. Easycove® adhesive can be applied to several cove bases in succession. Once mixed, adhesive should be light gray in color. Proper mixing ensures adequate bonding. 600 mL per tube (20 LF) -
Easycove® Join and Seal
Easycove® Join and Seal can be applied to the vertical ends of each cove base prior to Easycove® adhesive.
Placing a thin line of the Join and Seal Adhesive, press the cove base firmly together to create a completely monolithic cove that is properly aligned. Easycove® Join and Seal can also be applied after one section of coving is applied to the wall (ie after 4) 20g net wt bottle (200-500 LF) -
Applying Adhesive
• DoveLock™ Bond Channels: Apply a 1/4” bead to the DoveLock™ Bond channels to create a mechanical bond to the substrate -
Applying Adhesive
• Cove Anchor: Apply 1/4” bead at the 90 degree floor/wall or an amount sufficient to anchor the cove. A critical step in the process, this bead helps create a water- proof seal between the adhesive and cove anchor. Failure to have a consistent bead may allow moisture to intrude and compromise the bond.
Installation
5 Positioning the Cove
- Tilt Easycove® coving up into position and apply even pressure. Use a soft cotton cloth for adhesive overage/spillage and to make sure cove is completely pressed against the wall and floor.
- Pin nailing is NOT suggested and/or required when using Easycove® Adhesive in combination with Easycove® Join and Seal. On occasions where Join and Seal is not available, simple blue tape can be used until adhesive sets.
Finishing (Optional)
- Using a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol, wipe down the face to remove any dirt or contaminants and then apply epoxy in the same manner you would troweled cove using brush, roll or spray.
- Decorative flakes may be broadcast onto the cove creating a seamless cove to floor look.
