CONNECTIONS
Ensure that the POWER SWITCH (1) is in the OFF position prior to making any
connections. This unit comes with a 2-conductor AC Power cable. Plug the Power
cable into the AC power input (2) before plugging it into mains power.
-
The MXR-01 BT has BALANCED (10) and UNBALANCED (8) stereo Master outputs on the rear panel. Select the output appropriate for your amplifier/speakers. There is also an unbalanced Booth output (9). Use a standard RCA-type cable
to connect to your booth monitoring solution. -
Headphones may be plugged into the front panel-mounted Headphones 1/4″ output jack (11).
-
A Microphone may also be plugged into the rear panel-mounted MICROPHONE 1/ 4″ input jack (7).
-
The MXR-01 BT has LINE/PHONO RCA inputs (3-6) located on the rear panel. The PHONO inputs are for connecting any turntable with a magnetic cartridge. To hear the connected turntable, go to the associated channel on the front panel and switch it to PH. The LINE inputs are for connecting devices with line-level outputs, like CD, MP3, and other Media players. To hear line-level device output, plug the device into the appropriate input, then go to the associated channel on the front panel and switch it to LN.
-
When using turntables, you will likely need to ground the RCA cables by screwing in the grounding forks to the GROUNDING SCREW located on the rear panel of the MXR-01 BT. If necessary, attach each device ground to the GROUND THUMB SCREW provided.
NOTE: WHEN USING TURNTABLES, NOT ATTACHING A GROUND WHEN ONE IS REQUIRED MAY CAUSE AN AUDIBLE SYSTEM “HUM”.
CONTROLS
-
Once all your connections have been made on the rear panel, turn on the mixer by pressing the power switch (1). Turn the mixer on before you turn on any connected amplification. When powering off, turn off connected amps, then the mixer, then any connected sources.
-
Bluetooth Button: When the MXR-01 BT is on. The Bluetooth is in search mode for pairing devices. The Bluetooth button (16) is blinking Select “GEMINI MXR-OlBT” in your Bluetooth list and accept pairing. The light keeps lighting. When a unit is connected, a short press of the button can play or pause the music. The long press is disconnected from Bluetooth, the last paired device will be connected when the short press is in search mode.
-
CHANNELS: To bring a channel into a program output (PGM), you must first decide which connected source will be in use. Using the LINE/PHONO switch (12, 13), toggle to either your connected turntable or line lever source. Once you’ve selected the desired source, slowly raise the Volume Fader (28) to a comfortable level. You can increase the level of the connected audio source by turning the GAIN knob (24). Turning the HIGH (25), MID (26), or LOW (27) EQ knobs will allow you to shape the sound of the source audio.
-
MICROPHONE: Turn the MIC VOLUME knob (22) clockwise to increase the amount of microphone in the program audio. Turning the MIC VOLUME knob fully counter-clockwise will switch the mic off. You can adjust the tone of the microphone audio by using the HIGH (20) and LOW (21) EQ knobs.
NOTE: FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE, BEGIN WITH THE MASTER VOLUME (29) SET TO THE 12 O’CLOCK POSITION. SET ALL EQ AND GAIN CONTROLS TO THE 12 O’CLOCK POSITION, AND BOTH CHANNEL FADERS TO THE LOWEST POSITION. START PLAYING AUDIO AND SLOWLY BRING UP THE ASSOCIATED CHANNEL FADER TO 75%. IF THE LED METERS ARE LIGHTING THE RED LEDS. USE THE GAIN KNOB ON THAT CHANNEL TO LOWER THE VOLUME UNTIL CLIPPING STOPS. IF THE AUDIO LEVEL IS TOO LOW, YOU CAN USE THE MASTER VOLUME KNOB TO ADJUST YOUR OUTPUT. THIS PROCESS WILL PREVENT SIGNAL OVERLOAD AND DECREASE DISTORTION. RED LEDS INDICATE POSSIBLE CLIPPING (DISTORTION), SO AVOID THIS STATE WHEN POSSIBLE. -
CUE: By connecting a set of headphones to the HEADPHONES jack (11), you can monitor connected devices without bringing them up in the Master audio. Use the cue toggle switch (19) to switch between CHl and CH2. The cue mix knob
(30) allows you to mix program audio into your headphones, allowing you to line up beat mixes or scratches before making them live. By turning the cue mix knob towards CUE (counter-clockwise), you will only hear the cue source. Turning the cue mix knob clockwise towards PGM adds and increases the amount of master audio present in the cue bus. -
CROSSFADER: The crossfader (18) allows you to mix from one channel to the other. The crossfader in the MXR-01 BT is also user-replaceable by removing the faceplate.
NOTE: DO NOT APPLY DOWNWARD PRESSURE WHILE USING THE CROSSFADER. LIGHTLY GUIDE THE CROSSFADER BACK AND FORTH WITH YOUR FINGERTIPS. UNNECESSARY FORCE CAN BEND THE STEM, OR CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRUSHES, CAUSING A LOSS OF SOUND. -
OUTPUT SECTION: Once you are comfortable with the sound level of the music, you may adjust the volume with the Master Volume knob (29) as needed. The BOOTH output is for connecting a “monitor” for the DJ and can be controlled using the BOOTH VOLUME knob (23).
-
MIC SECTION: Plug the MIC INPUT jack (7) on the rear panel. You can control the volume of the mic by turning the MIC VOLUME knob (22). Using the MIC LOW (21) and MIC HIGH (20) EQ knobs allows you to change the tone of the microphone audio.
-
VU METER: The MXR-01 BT has a VU meter (14) that gives you an indication of the outgoing audio signal. This is especially helpful if you are located further away from the main PA system and can not cleanly hear the audio. Try to keep audio levels in the green section of the meter. Peaking into the yellow LEDs is ok occasionally. The red LEDs indicate possible clipping and distortion and should be avoided.

CROSS FADER REPLACEMENT
Before you begin, please disconnect the main power and any connected devices.
To access the crossfader, it is necessary to remove the mixer faceplate:
- First, remove all knob and fader caps.
- Then, unscrew the 6 screws in the faceplate (shown with red arrows).
- Once the faceplate is removed, you will have access to the crossfader assembly.
- Unscrew the 2 screws holding the crossfader in place, and carefully lift the crossfader out of the chassis.
There is a ribbon and connector attached to the crossfader assembly. Carefully detach _ the connector from the crossfader. It should require no tools and very little force. Once the old crossfader has been removed, connect the new crossfader to the mixer using the same ribbon connector. Insert the crossfader into the chassis and screw it in place. Power on the mixer and test the performance of the new crossfader. If working, go ahead and replace the faceplate and faceplate screws. If your new crossfader is not working, please repeat the above procedure and/or contact Gemini Technical Support. Gemini is not responsible for any damages caused by the user making modifications or replacing parts on the MXR-01 BT mixer.
