  8. If the unit has USB playback function, the USB memory stick should be plugged into the unit directly. Don’t use a USB extension cable because it can cause interference resulting in failing of data.

  10. This device is not intended for use by people (including children) with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities, or a point. Product Usage Instructions

Follow these instructions to use the CD-500:

  1. Ensure that there is a 5 cm (2″) free space around the device for proper ventilation.
  2. Refer to the supplied user manual for installation instructions.
  3. Keep the device away from heat sources such as radiators, heaters, stoves, candles, and other heat-generating equipment.
  4. Avoid placing heavy items on the power adaptor to prevent damage.
  5. Use a soft dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use solvents or petrol-based fluids. For severe stains, use a damp cloth with dilute detergent.
  6. Do not interrupt the connection while the device is formatting or transferring files to prevent data corruption or loss.
  7. If the unit has USB playback function, directly plug the USB memory stick into the unit without using a USB extension cable to avoid data transfer issues.
  8. Unplug the device during lightning storms or when it will be unused for a long period.
  9. Do not overload AC outlets or extension cords to prevent fire or electric shock.
  10. Ensure proper electrical grounding according to the device’s class (class 1 requires a protective earthed connection).
  11. Always hold the plug when removing it from the main supply socket. Do not pull the power cord to avoid short circuits.
  12. Replace damaged power cords or plugs and ensure outlets are not loose to prevent fire or electric shock.
  13. If the product comes with a remote control containing coin/cell batteries, do not ingest the batteries and keep them away from children. KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN MIND:

  • Do not cover or block any ventilation openings. When placing the device on a shelf, leave 5 cm (2”) free space around the whole device.

  • Install in accordance with the supplied user manual.

  • Keep the device away from heat sources such as radiators, heaters, stoves, candles and other heat-generating products or naked flame. The device can only be used in moderate climates. Extremely cold or warm environments should be avoided. Working temperature between 0° and 35°C.

  • Avoid using the device near strong magnetic fields.

  • Electrostatic discharge can disturb normal usage of this device. If so, simply reset and restart the device following the instruction manual. During file transmission, please handle with care and operate in a static-free environment.

  • Warning! Never insert an object into the product through the vents or openings. High voltage flows through the product and inserting an object can cause electric shock and/or short circuit internal parts. For the same reason, do not spill water or liquid on the product.

  • Do not use in wet or moist areas such as bathrooms, steamy kitchens or near swimming pools.

  • The device shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and make sure that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, are placed on or near the apparatus.

  • Do not use this device when condensation may occur. When the unit is used in a warm wet room with damp, water droplets or condensation may occur inside the unit and the unit may not function properly; let the unit stand in power OFF for 1 or 2 hours before turning on the power: the unit should be dry before getting any power.

INSTALLATION

  • Unpack all parts and remove protective material.
  • Do not connect the unit to the mains before checking the mains voltage and before all other connections have been made.

    To avoid any accidental button press during operation, the unit has a function of button hold. Set the HOLD SWITCH to ON position. To release the button lock, slide it to OFF position

CHARGING THE UNIT
Before using, it is recommended to charge unit for at least 2 hours.

BASIC OPERATION
Connect the earphone (included) into the EARPHONE OUT on the side of the unit.

AC/DC Adaptor (Not Supplied) Operation
Press the STANDBY button to turn on the unit. To turn off to the Standby mode (with display of time and date), press and hold the STANDBY button.

Built-in Battery Operation (AC/DC Adaptor NOT Connected)
Press the STANDBY button to turn on the unit. To turn off to the Standby mode (with display of time and date), press and hold the STANDBY button . To turn the unit to OFF mode for power saving (without display), press and hold the STANDBY button again.

DAB / FM / CD
Press the MODE button to select between different sources.

Volume Control
Press the VOLUME + / – button to change the volume level. The CD player has a hearing protection to limit the volume level and give you a warning when it is too high. When prompted, you have to press the ENTER button to confirm that you want to increase the volume, then press the VOLUME + button can further increase the volume level.

Adjusting the DAB / FM Reception
The earphone wire serves as the antenna. Therefore fully extend the earphone wire and place the unit to a location to ensure a good DAB / FM reception.

DAB OPERATION
The first time in the DAB mode, it will automatically scan for available DAB stations. Wait until the scanning has finished. The display will show the scanning progress.

Auto Scan

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode.
  2. Press and hold the SCAN button to start auto-scanning the available stations.

Manual Scan
By using the manual scan operation, it can help you to adjust the unit position or search station that is missed while auto scanning.

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “Manual tune” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button to select the desired channel (5A 13F).
  5. Press the ENTER button to confirm. Adjust the unit position for the best reception if necessary.
  6. To select another channel (5A 13F), press the button and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  7. When the station is found, press the ENTER button to select.
  8. To quit manual scan, press the MENU button repeatedly.

Tuning
After scanning all the available DAB stations, press the button to display and navigate the station list. Then press the ENTER button to tune to this station within a few seconds.

Storing DAB Presets
You can save up to 30 DAB stations.

  1. Tune to the station you wish to store.
  2. Press and hold the PRESET button, “Preset Store” will be displayed.
  3. Press the button to select the desired preset number to store.
  4. Press the ENTER button to store.

Recall Stored DAB Presets

  1. Press the PRESET button, “Preset Recall” will be displayed.
  2. Press the button to select the desired preset number to recall.
  3. Press the ENTER button to recall.

Displaying DAB Station Information
There are several types of information provided by the radio station. To display the information, press the INFO / MENU repeatedly.

DAB SlideShow
When receiving the station with slideshow (if available), the picture will be shown on the left hand side of the display. Press the ENTER button will enlarge the picture to fully fit the screen. Press the ENTER button again will quit and back to the normal operation.

OTHER DAB MENU OPERATION
Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control. Then press the button for different options as described below.

Dynamic Range Control (DRC)
DRC can make quieter sounds easier to hear when the unit is used in a noisy environment. The DRC level of a broadcast is set by the broadcaster and transmitted with the service. Changing the DRC value on your unit enables you to apply a scaling factor to this level.

There are three levels of compression:
DRC off: No compression
DRC low: Set to 1/2 that of the sent transmitted service
DRC high: Maximum compression as sent with the transmitted service

  1. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  2. Press the button to select the DRC value and then press the ENTER to confirm.
  3. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Note:

  1. Not all DAB broadcasts are able to use DRC function. If the broadcast does not support DRC then the DRC setting in the unit will have no effect.
  2. After you have adjusted the DRC level the sound may be louder.

Prune
This function removes invalid stations.

  1. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  2. Press the button until “Prune” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  3. Press the button to select “Yes” and then press the ENTER button to prune the unit.
  4. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

FM RADIO OPERATION

Auto Scan

  1. Turn on the unit in FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the SCAN button to start auto scanning and saving the available stations (max. 30 storage).

Manual Scan

  1. Press the button repeatedly to tune to a different frequency, 0.05MHz per step.
  2. Alternatively press and hold the button to automatically search to the next available station.

Storing FM Presets
You can save up to 30 FM stations.

  1. Tune to the station you wish to store.
  2. Press and hold the PRESET button, “Preset Store” will be displayed.
  3. Press the button to select the desired preset number to store.
  4. Press the ENTER button to store.

Recall Stored FM Presets

  1. Press the PRESET button, “Preset Recall” will be displayed.
  2. Press the button to select the desired preset number to recall.
  3. Press the ENTER button to recall.

Stereo / Force Mono Selection
When receiving a Stereo FM radio channel, pressing the PLAY/PAUSE button to toggle between stereo audio and force mono audio.

Displaying FM Station Information
There are several types of information provided by the radio station. To display the information, press the INFO / MENU repeatedly.

FM MENU OPERATION

Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control. Then press the button for different options as described below.

Scan Setting

  1. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  2. Press the button to highlight the “Scan setting” and then press the ENTER button3. Press the or button to highlight “Strong stations only” or “All stations”.
  3. Press the ENTER button to confirm. When the “Strong stations only” is selected, scanning will ignore the noisy stations and only capture the strong stations. When “All stations” is selected, all possible stations will be captured during scanning even if it is a bit noisy.
  4. The next time doing the scanning the unit will search for the stations based on this scan setting.

CD OPERATION

Loading and Playing CD Disc
Open the CD door. Install a disc with the CD label side facing up. Close the CD door. Press the MODE button to CD mode. After reading, it will automatically start to play.

Play/Pause Control
To pause playback press the PLAY/PAUSE button . Press the button again to resume playback.

Stop Control
To stop playback press the STOP button .

Skip Track
During playback press the button to skip to the previous or next track.

High Speed Music Search
During playback press & hold the button to start high speed searching. When you release the button normal speed playback will resume.

Repeat Play / Random Play

  1. During playback press the PLAY MODE button once, the current track will be played repeatedly

  2. In case of MP3 disc pressing the PLAY MODE button again, all tracks in the current folder will be played repeatedly.

  3. When pressing the PLAY MODE button again, all tracks will be played repeatedly.

  4. When pressing the PLAY MODE button again, all tracks will be played in random sequence.

  5. When pressing the PLAY MODE button again, the unit will resume to normal playback.

Programmed Playback
The unit can be programmed to play a sequence of tracks selected.

  1. In stop mode press the PLAY MODE button, the display shows the program number “★01” near the bottom of the screen display.

  2. Press the button to select the desired track.

  3. Press the PLAY MODE button to save the desired track.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 to program up to 24 programmed tracks in CD disc (or 99 programmed tracks in MP3 disc).

  5. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playing the programmed tracks.

  6. To clear the program play, press the STOP button twice or change to another mode.

  7. During program play you can also do the “Repeat One” or “Repeat All” operation, however random play will not be supported.

Note:

  1. Besides playing CDDA audio disc, the unit can also play MP3 file. However, WMA file and others are not support.
  2. Folders or files number on the disc that exceed the supported limit of this product cannot be played.

Resume Playback
During playback, change mode or standby on/off and back to CD mode will continue playback from where you have stopped. To clear the resume playback, press the STOP button or open the CD disc compartment door. During programming playback, there is no resume playback.

Anti shock Protection
The unit has an electronic anti shock protection function to prevent any interruption of the sound output when the unit is subjecting to shock or vibration during disc playback. The unit’s internal buffer can provide a typically 45 seconds when playing a CDDA disc and typically 120 seconds when playing a CD MP3 disc of protection against interruption of sound output. If the player is subjected to shock or vibration for a longer time that the buffer is full, some interruption of sound output will occur. This is normal. The sound will resume once the unit is stabilized from the shock or vibration.

Note:

  • The anti skip function provides for continues sound output when the unit is subjected to shock or vibration. It will not compensate for errors arising from the use of defective, scratched or dirty discs.

BLUETOOTH TRANSMIT OPERATION

The Bluetooth transmit function allows the unit’s sound (DAB, FM or CD) wireless transmit to the Bluetooth wireless device for example wireless speaker.

  1. During the DAB or FM or CD mode, press and hold the BT TX button to start searching the closest available Bluetooth device. “BT:TX” will be shown on the screen display bottom area in which the portion “TX” is flashing to indicate searching the Bluetooth speaker in progress.
    They will be automatically connected and the sound will transmit to the Bluetooth speaker.

  2. Press and hold the BT TX button again will turn off the Bluetooth transmit function.

Note:

  • Please note that it needs a longer time when connecting the device for the first time.
  • Except the Bluetooth device that you want to pair, it is recommended not to turn on other Bluetooth devices within 10 meters during pairing. If the pairing is not successes, please check if there is other Bluetooth deices nearby. Or you can locate the discman closer (for example within 3 meters and no blocking between them) to the Bluetooth device and try to do pairing again.
  • If you move out of Bluetooth range (10 meters) between the unit and the Bluetooth device, the “TX” indicator on the display will begin flashing. Move the unit or your Bluetooth device back within range and reconnect the Bluetooth device if necessary.
  • If there is no Bluetooth device searched within 2 minutes, the Bluetooth transmit function will be turned off automatically.

BBS
You can enhance the bass effect of the music. Press the BBS button will toggle the bass boost between ON and OFF.

SYSTEM MENU OPERATION
Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button. System menu will be shown as below. Press the button for different selections as shown below. Then press the ENTER knob to setup. To quit the menu control, press the MENU button repeatedly.

  • Sleep
  • Time
  • Backlight
  • Language
  • Factory Reset
  • SW version

Sleep Function
You can set the sleep timer function among off, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes.

  1. During the sleep timer count down, there is a moon icon shown on the screen display bottom area.
  2. When the sleep timer is zero, the unit will be turned off automatically.
  3. To cancel the sleep function, press and hold the STANDBY button or set the sleep timer to off.

Time Setup
This setup allows you to setup 4 different display modes. They are:

  • Set Time/Date
  • Auto update
  • Set 12/24 hour
  • Set date format

Set Time/Date

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Time” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button until “Set Time/Date” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  6. Hour digits will be flashed. Press the or button to change to hour value and then press the ENTER button.
  7. Minute digits will be flashed. Press the or button to change to minute value and then press the ENTER button.
  8.  If 12 hour display is set before, “AM or “PM” will be flashed. Press the button to set AM or PM and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  9. Then the unit will request to set the date. Follow the similar procedures as listed above to complete the setup of day, month and year.
  10. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Auto Update

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Time” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button until “Auto update” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  6. Press the button to change between
    • Update from Any: Time and Date will be updated by either DAB or FM broadcast
    • Update from DAB: Time and Date will be updated by DAB broadcast only
    • Update from FM: Time and Date will be updated by FM broadcast only
    • No Update: Time and Date will never be updated by broadcast
  7. Select your desired and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  8. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Set 12/24 Hour Display

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Time” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button until “Set 12/24 hour” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  6. Press the button to toggle between 12 or 24 hour display. Select your desired and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  7. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Set Date Format

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Time” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button until “Set date format” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  6. Press the button to toggle between “DD MM YYYY” or “MM DD YYYY” date display. Select your desired and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  7. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Language Setup
You can set the language of the unit.

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Language” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button to toggle between different languages. Select your desired language and then press the ENTER button to confirm.
  6. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

Factory Reset
This function resets the unit to the original factory settings.

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “Factory Reset” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  5. Press the button until “Yes” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button to reset the unit.

Software Version Check
You can check the software version of the unit.

  1. Turn on the unit in DAB mode or FM mode.
  2. Press and hold the MENU button to access the menu control.
  3. Press the button until “System” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button.
  4. Press the button until “SW version” is highlighted and then press the ENTER button to show the software version number.
  5. Press the MENU button repeatedly to exit the menu control.

BATTERY LEVEL SAVING
In order to save the battery consumption, the unit in CD mode pause or without playback for around 15 minute will automatically turn off to the power off mode.

Trouble Shooting

No power

  • Ensure that the unit is switched on and the battery is fully charged.

No sound output

  • Turn up the volume.

Disc in place but the unit won’t play

  • Ensure that the disc label is facing up.
  • Ensure that the disc is clean.
  • PAUSE mode may be activated, deactivate it.
  • Disc may be damaged or dirty; check and clean the disc.

DAB/FM reception

  • Ensure the earphone (antenna) wire is fully extended.
  • Electrical interference in your home can cause poor reception. Move the unit away from them (especially those with motors and transformers).

Sound interference coming from the earphone

  • Move any wireless devices (mobile phone, bluetooth device etc.) away from the unit.
