Temperature Calibration
IMPORTANT: Do not use a thermometer to measure the oven temperature.
Elements will cycle on and off as needed to maintain a consistent temperature
but may run slightly hot or cool at any point in time due to this cycling.
Opening the oven door will affect
cycling of the elements and impact the temperature.
The oven provides accurate temperatures and has been thoroughly tested at the
factory. However, it may cook faster or slower than your previous oven,
causing baking or browning differences. If necessary, the temperature
calibration can be adjusted in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.
On double ovens, the upper oven and the lower oven can each be calibrated
independently.
A minus sign means the oven will be cooler by the displayed amount. The
absence of a minus sign means the oven will be warmer by the displayed amount.
Adjust the oven temp up to +/-30°F (+/-18°C). It is recommended to make
changes in 5°F (3°C) increments until desired results are achieved.
To Adjust Oven Temperature Calibration:
- Press the Tools keypad.

Bakeware
To cook food evenly, hot air must be able to circulate. Allow 2″ (5.0 cm) of
space around bakeware and oven walls. Use the following chart as a guide.
Number of Pan(s) | Position on Rack |
---|---|
1 | Center of rack. |
2 | Side by side or slightly staggered. |
3 or 4 | See the rack position graphic in this section for pan placement |
recommendations.
NOTE: Bakeware materials and color may affect results. Dark, dull, non- stick, or glass pans may require shorter baking times. In contrast, insulated or stainless steel pans may require longer baking times. Follow bakeware manufacturer’s recommendations.
Preheating and Oven Temperature
Preheating
When beginning a Bake cycle, the oven will begin preheating after Start is
pressed. The oven will take approximately 12 to 17 minutes to reach 350°F
(177°C) with all of the oven racks provided with your oven inside the oven
cavity. Higher temperatures will take longer to preheat. The preheat cycle
rapidly increases the oven temperature. The actual oven temperature will go
above your set temperature to offset the heat lost when your oven door is
opened to insert food. This ensures that when you place your food in the oven,
the oven, will begin at the proper temperature. Insert your food when the
preheat tone sounds. Do not open the door during preheat before the tone
sounds. Rapid Preheat (on some models)
Rapid Preheat can be used to shorten the preheating time. Only one standard
flat oven rack should be in the oven during Rapid Preheat. Extra racks should
be removed prior to starting. The preheating cycle should be completed before
placing food in the oven. When the Rapid Preheat cycle is complete, the oven
starts a normal Bake cycle.
IMPORTANT: Rapid Preheat should be used only for one-rack baking.
Oven Temperature
While in use, the oven elements will cycle on and off as needed to maintain a
consistent temperature, but they may run slightly hot or cool at any point in
time due to this cycling. Opening the oven door while in use will release the
hot air and cool the oven which could impact the cooking time and performance.
It is recommended to use the oven light to monitor cooking progress.
Before baking and roasting, position racks according to the “Positioning Racks
and Bakeware” section. When roasting, it is not necessary to wait for the oven
preheat cycle to end before putting food in unless it is recommended in the
recipe.
Baking and Roasting
The oven will take approximately 12 to 17 minutes to reach 350°F (177°C) with
all oven racks inside the oven cavity. The preheat cycle rapidly increases the
temperature inside the oven cavity. Higher temperatures will take longer to
preheat. Factors that impact preheat times include room temperature, oven
temperature, and the number of racks. Unused oven racks can be removed prior
to preheating your oven to help reduce preheat time. The actual oven
temperature will go above the set temperature to offset the heat lost when the
oven door is opened to insert food. This ensures that the oven will begin at
the proper temperature when you place food in the oven. Insert food when the
preheat tone sounds. Do not open the door during preheat until the tone
sounds.
During baking or roasting, the bake and broil elements will cycle on and off
in intervals to maintain the oven temperature.
Depending on the model, if the oven door is opened during baking or roasting,
the heating elements (bake and broil) will turn off approximately 30 seconds
after the door is opened. They will turn on again approximately 30 seconds
after the door is closed.
Frozen Bake™
Frozen Bake™ Technology automatically adjusts the manufacturer’s bake time by
combining preheating and baking to deliver great packaged frozen food results
without the wait. There are multiple preprogrammed food options. The Frozen
Bake™ cycle have been customized to work only with these foods. When using
Frozen Bake™ Technology, it is important that you follow all manufacturer’s
instructions including venting, covering, stirring or placing on a baking
sheet to ensure a good result. When cooking frozen meals, only cook items that
provide instructions for cooking in a conventional oven. Place your dish in
the center of the rack and select one of the rack positions recommended for
Frozen Bake™ in the “Positioning Racks and Bakeware” section and bake only one
package or pan at a time. Use the temperature and maximum bake time from the
package.
A tone will alert you to check the food for doneness before the cook time is
complete and again at the end of the cook time. The display will prompt you to
add additional cook time if needed.
Convection Baking and Roasting
During convection cooking, the fan provides hot air circulation throughout the
oven. The movement of heated air around the food can help to speed up cooking
by penetrating the cooler outer surfaces. Food cooks more evenly, browning and
crisping outer
surfaces while sealing moisture inside.
During the Convect function, bake and broil elements, and the fan operate to
heat the oven cavity. If the oven door is opened during convection cooking or
preheating, the fan turns off immediately and the element(s) will turn off
after 30 seconds. Once the door is closed, the element(s) will turn back on.
NOTE: It is normal for the convection fan to run during nonconvection
cycles as well as during preheat.
- It is important not to cover foods so that surface areas remain exposed to the circulating air, allowing browning and crisping.
- Keep heat loss to a minimum by only opening the oven door when necessary. It is recommended to use the oven light to monitor cooking progress.
- Choose cookie sheets without sides and roasting pans with lower sides to allow air to move freely around the food.
- Test baked goods for doneness a few minutes before the minimum cooking time with a method such as a toothpick.
- Use a meat thermometer to determine the doneness of meats and poultry. Check the temperature of pork and poultry in 2 or 3 different places, including the thickest part.
- Before convection cooking, position the rack(s) according to the “Positioning Racks and Bakeware” section.
- When using more than one rack, position bakeware/cookware on the racks to allow movement of the fan circulated air around the food. See the “Positioning Racks and Bakeware” section.
- If the oven is full, extra cooking time may be needed.
- For optimal cooking results, do not cover food.
- Use Convect Bake for single or multiple rack baking.
- When convection baking, reduce your traditional recipe baking temperature by 25°F (15°C).
Broiling
When broiling, no preheating is necessary unless recommended otherwise in the
recipe. Position food on grid in a broiler pan, and then place it in the
center of the oven rack. Close the oven door to ensure proper broiling
temperature.
NOTE: Odors and smoke are normal the first few times the oven is used or
if the oven is heavily soiled.
Changing the temperature when broiling allows more precise control when
cooking. The lower the broil setting, the slower the cooking. Thicker cuts and
unevenly shaped pieces of meat, fish and poultry may cook better at lower
broil settings. Place the food in the lower oven. Refer to the “Positioning
Racks and Bakeware” section for more information.
On lower settings, the broil element will cycle On and Off to maintain the
proper temperature.
- For best results, use a broiler pan and grid. It is designed to drain juices and help avoid spatter and smoke.
If you would like to purchase a Broiler Pan Kit, one may be ordered. See the Quick Start Guide for contact information.
Convection Broiling
When broiling, no preheating is necessary unless recommended otherwise in the
recipe. During the Convect function, broil elements and the fan operate to
heat the oven cavity. Position food on grid in a broiler pan, and then place
it in the center of the oven rack. Close the oven door to ensure proper
broiling temperature.
-
It is important not to cover foods so that surface areas remain exposed to the circulating air, allowing browning and crisping.
-
Keep heat loss to a minimum by only opening the oven door when necessary. It is recommended to use the oven light to monitor cooking progress.
-
For best results, use a broiler pan and grid. It is designed to drain juices and help avoid spatter and smoke.
If you would like to purchase a Broiler Pan Kit, one may be ordered. See the Quick Start Guide for contact information. -
Use a meat thermometer to determine the doneness of meats and poultry. Check the temperature of pork and poultry in 2 or 3 different places, including the thickest part.
-
Before convection cooking, position the rack(s) according to the “Positioning Racks and Bakeware” section.
-
For optimal cooking results, do not cover food.
-
For best results, flip meats midway through cooking time.
Air Fry Basket (on some models)
If your appliance isn’t supplied with an Air Fry Basket, see your Quick Start
Guide for Online Ordering Information.
When using the Air Fry feature, position the air fry basket directly on top of
a large baking sheet. See Positioning Racks and Bakeware section of your
Control Guide for placement of basket and sheet for best performance. Avoid
using more than one basket to avoid uneven cooking.
Air Fry
(for connected models, when connected)*
IMPORTANT: Cooking times, temperatures, and general instructions may vary
depending on recipe. Air frying in a large oven cavity allows for more food to
be air fried at one time, longer baking times are to be expected.
Start the cycle and allow to completely preheat before placing the food in the
oven. Position food on the baking tray or air fry basket and place into oven
as shown in the Positioning Racks and Bakeware section of your Control Guide.
Close the oven door to ensure proper temperature.
During air frying, the heating elements cycle on and off in intervals to
maintain the oven temperature while the fan circulates to hot air.
- When air frying, food should be evenly spaced on a baking tray or air fry basket in a single layer.
- Refer to instructions on packaged food for conventional oven baking regarding air fry time and temperature.
- If oven is already preheated due to previous use, cook times may decrease for Air Fry.
- For best results, only use one rack level and one basket or tray for Air Frying.
- For frozen, bone-in, or dense foods with cook times less than 15 minutes, additional time may be required.
- For fresh food recipes with cook times more than 30 minutes, a 5-10 minute preheat is recommended.
- For recipes written for counter top air fryers, additional time will be needed.
- It is not recommended to use air fry with wet batter.
- For best performance, shake or flip food half-way through bake time. Be sure to close oven door after removing food.
- Spray baking tray or air fry basket with oil to avoid food sticking to tray or basket.
NOTE: Greasy foods may cause smoke during the air fry cycle. Properly
using a baking tray or baking sheet liner under an air fry basket (on some
models) will help to reduce the amount of smoke produced. Maintaining a clean
oven and baking sheet will also reduce the amount of smoke.
See table below for cooking recommendations.

Potato Cubes | 2 Lbs | 425°F (218°C) | 20-25 minutes |
Fresh Chicken Wings (no breading) | 2 Lbs | 400°F (204°C) | 25 minutes |
Brussel Sprouts | 2 Lbs | 400°F (204°C) | 20 minutes |
Zucchini Chips | 8 oz (1 lg zucchini) | 400°F (204°C) | 20-25 minutes |
NOTE: The convection fan and oven elements will shut off when the oven door is opened. All timers, including any active Cook Time or Timed Cook functions, will continue to count down.
Built-In Microwave Oven Use
A magnetron in the microwave oven produces microwaves which reflect off the metal floor, walls, and ceiling and pass through the turntable and appropriate cookware to the food. Microwaves are attracted to and absorbed by fat, sugar, and water molecules in the food, causing them to move, producing friction and heat which cooks the food.
- To avoid damage to the microwave oven, do not lean on or allow children to swing on the microwave oven door.
- To avoid damage to the microwave oven, do not operate microwave oven when it is empty.
- Baby bottles and baby food jars should not be heated in microwave oven.
- Clothes, flowers, fruit, herbs, wood, gourds, paper, including brown paper bags and newspaper, should not be dried in microwave oven.
- Paraffin wax will not melt in the microwave oven because it does not absorb microwaves.
- Use oven mitts or pot holders when removing containers from microwave oven.
- Do not overcook potatoes. At the end of the recommended cook time, potatoes should be slightly firm. Let potatoes stand for 5 minutes. They will finish cooking while standing.
- Do not cook or reheat whole eggs inside the shell. Steam buildup in whole eggs may cause them to burst, requiring significant cleanup of microwave oven cavity. Cover poached eggs and allow a standing time.
Food Characteristics
When microwave cooking, the amount, size and shape, starting temperature,
composition, and density of the food affect cooking results.
Amount of Food
The more food heated at once, the longer the cook time needed. Check for
doneness and add small increments of time if necessary.
Size and Shape
Smaller pieces of food will cook more quickly than larger pieces, and
uniformly shaped foods cook more evenly than irregularly shaped food.
Starting Temperature
Room temperature foods will heat faster than refrigerated foods, and
refrigerated foods will heat faster than frozen foods.
Composition and Density
Foods high in fat and sugar will reach a higher temperature, and will heat
faster than other foods. Heavy, dense foods, such as meat and potatoes,
require a longer cook time than the same size of a light, porous food, such as
cake.
Cooking Guidelines
Covering
Covering food helps retain moisture, shorten cook time, and reduce spattering.
Use the lid supplied with cookware. If a lid is not available, wax paper,
paper towels, or plastic wrap approved for microwave ovens may be used.
Plastic wrap should be turned back at one corner to provide an opening to vent
steam.
Condensation on the door and cavity surfaces is normal during heavy cooking.
Stirring and Turning
Stirring and turning redistribute heat evenly to avoid overcooking the outer
edges of food. Stir from outside to center. If possible, turn food over from
bottom to top.
Arranging
If heating irregularly shaped or different-sized foods, arrange the thinner
parts and smaller-sized items toward the center. If cooking several items of
the same size and shape, place them in a ring pattern, leaving the center of
the ring empty.
Piercing
Before heating, use a fork or small knife to pierce or prick foods that have a
skin or membrane, such as potatoes, egg yolks, chicken livers, hot dogs, and
sausage. Prick in several places to allow steam to vent.
Shielding
Use small, flat pieces of aluminum foil to cover the thin pieces of
irregularly shaped foods, bones, and foods such as chicken wings, leg tips,
and fish tails. See “Aluminum Foil and Metal” section in the Quick Start Guide
first.
Standing Time
Food will continue to cook by the natural conduction of heat even after the
microwave cooking cycle ends. The length of standing time depends on the
volume and density of the food.
Turntable On/Off (on some models)
For best performance, the turntable should be on during microwave cooking.
If using oversized cookware that does not turn freely on the microwave
turntable, turn the turntable off. To turn off the turntable when setting a
microwave function, touch TURNTABLE and then OFF. When cooking with the
turntable off, food should be turned halfway through the cooking process.
NOTE: The turntable cannot be turned off during any auto cooking cycle.
Cookware and Dinnerware
Cookware and dinnerware must fit on the turntable. Always use oven mitts or pot holders when handling because any dish may become hot from heat transferred from the food. Do not use cookware and dinnerware with gold or silver trim. Use the following chart as a guide, then test before using.
Material | Recommendations |
---|---|
Aluminum Foil, Metal | See “Aluminum Foil and Metal” section in the Quick Start |
Guide.
Browning Dish| Bottom must be at least 3/16″ (5 mm) above the turntable.
Follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Ceramic Glass, Glass| Acceptable for use.
China, Earthenware| Follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Melamine| Follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Paper: Towels, Dinnerware, Napkins| Use non-recycled and those approved by the
manufacturer for microwave oven use.
Plastic: Wraps, Bags, Covers, Dinnerware, Containers| Use those approved by
the manufacturer for microwave oven use.
Pottery and Clay| Follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Silicone Bakeware| Follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Straw, Wicker, Wooden Containers| Do not use in microwave oven.
Wax Paper| Acceptable for use.
To Test Cookware or Dinnerware for Microwave Use:
- Place cookware or dinnerware in microwave oven with 1 cup (250 mL) of water beside it.
- Cook at 100% cooking power for 1 minute.
Do not use cookware or dinnerware if it becomes hot and the water stays cool.
Microwave Cooking Power
Many recipes for microwave cooking specify which cooking power to use by
percent, name or number.
For example, 70% = 7 = Medium-High.
Use the following chart as a general guide for the suggested cooking power of
specific foods.
Percent/Name | Use |
---|---|
100%, High (default setting) | Quick-heating convenience foods and foods with |
high water content, such as soups, beverages, and most vegetables.
90%| Cooking small, tender pieces of meat, ground meat, poultry pieces, and
fish fillets. Heating cream soups.
80%| Heating rice, pasta, or casseroles.
Cooking and heating foods that need a cook power lower than high. For example,
whole fish and meat loaf.
70%, Medium-High| Reheating a single serving of food.
60%| Cooking sensitive foods such as cheese and egg dishes, pudding, and
custards.
Cooking non-stirrable casseroles, such as lasagna.
50%, Medium| Cooking ham, whole poultry, and pot roasts.
Simmering stews.
40%| Melting chocolate.
Heating bread, rolls, and pastries.
30%, MediumLow, Defrost| Defrosting bread, fish, meats, poultry, and precooked
foods.
20%| Softening butter, cheese, and ice cream.
10%, Low| Taking chill out of fruit.
Turntable
The turntable rotates in both directions to help cook food more evenly. Do not
operate the microwave oven without having the turntable in place. See the
Quick Start Guide for online ordering information.
The raised, curved lines in the center of the turntable bottom fit between the
3 spokes of the hub. The hub turns the turntable during microwave oven use.
The rollers on the support should fit inside the turntable bottom ridge.
NOTE: The microwave oven cooling fan may continue to run for several
minutes after the cooking cycle has been completed. The microwave cooking does
not continue beyond the end of cooking cycle.
To Turn On/Off
For best microwave oven performance, it is recommended to always leave the
turntable on. If necessary, the turntable can be turned off (except during an
auto function).
This is helpful when cooking with a dish that is larger than the turntable.

Defrost
The Defrost feature can be used or the microwave oven can be manually set to
defrost by using 20% cook power.
- Unwrap foods and remove lids (from fruit juice) before defrosting. Remove any metal twist-ties and replace them with strings or elastic bands.
- If food is foil wrapped, remove foil and place it in a suitable container.
- Slit or pierce plastic pouches or packaging. Slit the skins, if any, of frozen food such as sausage.
- Bend plastic pouches of food to ensure even defrosting.
- Always underestimate defrosting time. If defrosted food is still icy in the center, return it to the microwave oven for more defrosting.
- The length of defrosting time varies according to how solidly the food is frozen.
- Shallow packages will defrost more quickly than deep blocks.
- Separate food pieces as soon as possible during or at the end of a cycle for more even defrosting.
- Foods left outside the freezer for more than 20 minutes or frozen ready-made food should not be defrosted using the Custom Defrost feature but should be defrosted manually.
- Use small pieces of aluminum foil to shield parts of food such as chicken wings, leg tips, and fish tails. See the “Aluminum Foil and Metal” section in the Quick Start Guide first.
Steam Cook
Steam Cook is a sensor cooking function that uses microwaves to steam food. Use Steam for foods such as vegetables, fish and potatoes.
- Times and cooking powers have been pre-programmed for steaming a number of food types.
- Use a microwave-safe steamer.
- Use 1/2 cup (125 mL) water or as directed in the steamer instructions.
Popcorn
NOTE: During Popcorn function, as with all microwave cooking functions, the microwave oven should be attended at all times. Listen for popping to slow to 1 pop every 1 or 2 seconds, and then stop the cycle.
- To avoid damage to the microwave oven, do not use regular paper bags or glass utensils.
- Pop only 1 package of popcorn at a time.
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions when using a microwave popcorn popper.
- For best cooking results, do not try to pop unpopped kernels.
- Use fresh bags of popcorn for optimal results.
- Cooking results may vary by brand and fat content.
- The microwave uses the sensor to determine sizes that can be popped: 1.75-3.5 oz (50-99 g) bags.
