Daily checks
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
For maximum safety, make the following checks before riding
- Normal operation of the front and rear lights, brake system, and brake lever power cut-off system.
- Check parking brakes are in the OFF position and released.
- Check tire pressure is 15-20 psi (1-1.4 bar), low pressure will influence both handling and speed and decrease your range.
- Check front and rear wheels, if there is any movement anywhere then tighten before riding.
- Check the battery charge level is sufficient for the upcoming ride.
- Check the front and rear brake system for stopping and free operation.
- Adjust the handlebars to your preferred position.
- Adjust and secure the seat into the correct position for your height.
- Make sure any loads you are carrying are secure and not overweight or overhanging.
- If you are transporting dogs or other pets make sure they have a secure floor to avoid slipping and they are properly secured.
- Secure any loose clothing.
- Always wear a helmet.
Riding
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
Important warnings when riding
- To increase safety and reduce power consumption, it is recommended to avoid sudden starts and stops.
- The tricycle’s electric controller has temperature overload protection. If a temperature overload situation occurs, power to the electric tricycle will be cut automatically and restored when temperature returns to normal.
- The recommended maximum rider weight is 100 kgs, although we have tested riders up to 150 kgs safely.
- Avoid riding overloaded, and don’t ride too fast.
- Never ride with more than 1 person, it’s dangerous and illegal, unless using an approved child seat.
- Never ride after drinking alcohol or taking medicines that cause impairment.
- Never ride on the roadway where there is vehicular traffic.
- Ride within your abilities and the conditions, especially when learning.
How to ride safely
- Position the tricycle on level ground clear of any obstacles, especially until you get used to riding your Sobowo tricycle.
- Firstly, decide if you are going to ride the tricycle with, or without electric assistance.
If you are going to be riding without electrical assistance then you can continue with the mounting instructions. If you are going to ride the tricycle with electric assistance, then turn the key on the battery to the ‘ON’ position, and then continue.
Riding continued
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
-
Standing alongside the tricycle, hold the brakes, and apply the parking lock to stop the tricycle from moving.
-
Position yourself holding onto the handlebars so that you can place a leg over/through the tricycle frame until you are standing evenly over the tricycle frame with a foot on each side. Don’t try to swing your leg over the back basket area, it is not safe to do so.
-
Using your strongest leg, place your foot onto the pedal, when the pedal is at the lowest position, then stand on the pedal to lift yourself and up and get your body positioned onto the seat correctly. If you can get onto the seat from ground level without standing on the pedal then the seat is set too low for you. Continue with both feet on the pedals at all times.
-
Once comfortable, release the parking lock and either pedal the trike without electric assistance or, if choosing electric assistance, go through the electrical start-up details below.
-
Turn the Sobowo electric tricycle on by turning on the handlebar controller. The colour LCD display will light up. Select the desired starting speed. The speed range 1-5. 1 is the slowest setting with 5 being the fastest.
-
Decide if you want to operate as pedal assist or with twist throttle.
-
Pedal assist mode, start to pedal and electric assistance will engage after half-to-one turn of the pedals.
-
Throttle mode, press the red button to turn the throttle on and twist the throttle for the desired speed level.
-
With both feet on the pedals at even level, push off with your strongest leg, looking ahead for pavement conditions/obstacles and for other road users/traffic.
-
If riding in pedal assist mode, power will engage after half-to-one turn of the pedals. In throttle mode at the same time as pushing off, twist the throttle slightly using your right hand to introduce electric assistance .
-
You will not lose your balance on the electric tricycle so always keep both feet on the pedals at all times.
-
Ride and control the tricycle up to your desired speed. Don’t ride too fast until you are fully familiarized with the Sobowo electric tricycle, its performance, stopping distance and handling characteristics.
-
Slowly squeeze the brakes to get the feel of how they work and their strength.
-
The brakes on your Sobowo electric tricycle are high-performance, hydraulic disk brakes, and they will reduce your speed very quickly. About 70% of the braking power will come from the front wheel, but use front and rear brakes
together for the best stopping performance. -
The brake lever on the left-hand handlebar operates the two rear wheels, and they brake/stop together. The brake lever on the right-hand handlebar operates the front wheel.
Important tips when riding
- When pushing/walking the tricycle manually, please turn off the power at the key to avoid accidental acceleration and accidents.
- It is recommended to park your electric tricycle undercover indoors, or outdoors under cover in the shade. Don’t forget to switch off the power by removing the key.
- In a public place, the tricycle must be parked in accordance with local traffic/legal regulations. Don’t forget to switch off and remove the key and also engage the park brake so stop the tricycle moving when blown by the wind.
Riding range
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
Average distance from one charge is between 25-40 km. The distance will differ
based on different riding conditions, rider weight, pedal assistance effort
and other factors.

Saving battery power and extending your range
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
Frequent hard starting, aggressive braking and hard starting again, riding
fast against the wind, continuous riding on rough or muddy roads, riding in
hilly areas, and heavy rider weights will decrease the battery power and
shorten the riding distance.
Here are some tips for extending battery life.
- Try not to brake and hard start frequently, look ahead when riding, and judge the road conditions in advance.
- Avoid hard starting and accelerate slowly for maximum range.
- When the battery is not in use, it should be recharged once every 60 days.
- Check the battery regularly. If the battery is abnormal, have it inspected, tested, and repaired. Keeping the battery operating correctly will extend the life of the battery pack.
- The average charging time is about 2-6 hours. Try to avoid overcharging or using fast charging.
- Long-term direct exposure to direct sunlight is strictly prohibited, excessive heat will damage your battery.
- Avoid cold temperatures below 2°C, cold or below freezing will damage your battery.
- Never use your battery for anything except its intended purpose.
- Never use a battery charger which was not supplied with your Sobowo electric tricycle.
- Never charge the battery on its side or upside down.

A note for parents and guardians
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
Note on wearing protective gear
Always ensure the rider is wearing proper protective equipment, such as an
approved safety helmet. A helmet is required by local laws and regulations
nation-wide in Australia. Always wear shoes and keep shoelaces tied and out of
the way of the wheels, sprockets and chain. Never ride barefooted or in
sandals. If you are headed off-road then knee pads and elbow pads are highly
recommended.
an important Message to Parents
This manual contains important information. For your child’s safety, it is
your responsibility to review this information with your child and make sure
that your child understands all warnings, cautions, instructions, and safety
topics. All children should always ride with adult guidance. The Sobowo
company recommends that you periodically review and reinforce the information
in this manual with younger riders. You are required to inspect and maintain
your child’s electric tricycle to ensure their ongoing safety.
Safety notes before first use
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
This electric tricycle is intended for riders older than 16 years. Do not
ride the electric tricycle if you suffer from reduced physical, sensorial, or
mental issues. Riders with a lack of experience or knowledge should ride
carefully. Children should not play with the electric tricycle, nor should
cleaning or maintenance be attempted by children. The use of this electric
tricycle can result in stress and fatigue by passing riding vibrations
throughout the rider’s body, If this causes you distress or discomfort then
immediately stop riding.
This electric tricycle is a leisure device. However, when entering any public
area, it may be considered a vehicle subject to possible traffic laws and
regulations. For your own safety, please follow the instructions in the
manual as well as local traffic laws and regulations.
At the same time, you should understand that operating risks cannot be
entirely avoided as others may violate traffic regulations and drive
erratically. You may be exposed to road accidents just as when you’re walking
or biking. The higher your speed, the longer the stopping distance. On a
smooth surface, the electric tricycle may slip, lose balance, and even result
in a fall. Be cautious when riding, don’t speed, and keep a safe distance
from other road users, especially when riding in unfamiliar areas.
Additional safety notes
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
- Ensure handlebar grips are not damaged and installed properly. Loose or damaged grips can cause you to lose control and fall.
- Failure to wear a helmet when riding may result in serious injury or death.
- Do not use this electric tricycle with standard bicycle trailers, stands, or vehicle bicycle racks. Please contact Sobowo to check if your equipment will work with the electric tricycle before use.
- Off-road riding requires special attention and specific skills. Variable conditions and hazards accompany off-road riding and extra care must be taken. Wear appropriate safety gear and do not ride alone in remote areas.
- Take extra care while riding in wet conditions. Feet or hands can slip in wet conditions and lead to death or serious injury from a fall.
- Riding in wet conditions is not recommended at speeds above 15 km/h.
- Don’t remove front or rear reflectors, or the orange reflectors on the wheels, they are required by law.
Additional safety notes
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
- Engaging in extreme riding is dangerous and should be avoided. Although many articles/ advertisements and catalogues depict riders in extreme terrain, this is not recommended or permitted, and you can be seriously injured or killed if you perform extreme riding.
- Sobowo electric tricycles do have strength and integrity limitations. Extreme riding should not be performed, otherwise you can be seriously injured.
- Failure to comply with these instructions or engage in improper operation, or not providing correct maintenance of your electric tricycle or accessories can result in serious injury or death.
- After any incident you must consider your electric tricycle unsafe to ride until you consult with a certified electric tricycle service provider for a complete safety inspection.
- Failure to properly charge, store, or use your battery as instructed will void the warranty and may cause a hazardous situation.
Additional safety notes
Sobowo Electric Tricycle
- You should check the operation of the brake inhibitor switches before each ride.
- The brake system is equipped with an inhibitor which disconnects power to the electric motor whenever the brakes are engaged. Check proper operation slowly while in a controlled environment by riding slowly with the electric motor running and applying the brake levers, the electric motor should immediately stop.
- Riders must understand the operation of the twist throttle before use and take care with their riding, respecting speeds appropriate for the area they are riding in, and importantly, their user experience level. Most accidents could be prevented by riding slower.
- Any changes to the electric tricycle not expressly approved by Sobowo will void warranty and could adversely affect your safety while riding.
- Because electric tricycles are heavier and faster than normal tricycles, they require extra caution and care while riding.
- To avoid damage never, submerge the electrical components in water or subject your electric tricycle to saltwater environments.
