Cadwell® Sleepmate
Instructions for Use (IFU)
Intended use
The Cadwell Sleepmate™ Reusable Airflow Sensor is to detect patient nasal and/or oral breathing during sleep research and clinical studies of sleep.
Instruction for use
The sensor should be installed so that the probes are exposed to the maximum
available airflow. The sensor probes are flexible to allow each probe to be
bent gently to insure that they are in the path of airflow. The probes should
not touch the skin as contact may attenuate the signal amplitude. All cannula
style airflow sensors are installed onto the patient in a manner similar to
that of an oxygen cannula. The sensors are delicate and must be handled
carefully. Proper handling and cleaning will increase durability and
longevity in the life of the sensor. When bending the prongs to fit the
patient, never bend at a sharp angle, but in a smooth round curve. The prong
should be bent a short distance away from the center bar. The assembly should
be carefully secured using both the sliding cinch tubing and surgical tape.
Connect the sensor to the appropriate channel input of your recorder. No
external power source is required.
Ensure the sensor is securely attached to the patient as described and you
have clear, reliable signals prior to lights out.
Cleaning
This sensor was designed to be reusable and can be cleaned by rubbing with any cleansing agent that is not corrosive toward plastic. The entire assembly must be completely dry before using again to insure patient safety. For sterilization implement a standard procedure for gas sterilization. Do not autoclave this product. Use the molded ends of the connectors when removing the connector from the junction box.
