General notes on use

The cooler is not suitable for continuous operation. Ice can form on the aluminum radiator. We recommend switching off the cooler after a maximum of 6 days of operation. You can switch the cooler on again after 2 hours.
Dry the surfaces of your refrigerated goods to avoid condensation.
When the cooler is not in use, store the connection cables in the compartment provided for this purpose in the lid of the cooler.
When operating the cooler from a 12 V power source in your car, make sure that the supply of power to the cooler is not constantly interrupted when the engine is switched on and off frequently. Also note that the car battery may become drained when the engine is not running.
To prevent the goods to be cooled from freezing, the cooler should not be operated at the maximum cooling setting when the ambient temperature is below 18°C.
If you do not need to use the cooler for a longer period of time, then please remove all objects from the cooler. Disconnect the cooler from the power supply and store the connection cable in the in the compartment provided for this purpose in the lid of the cooler.

Operation

For hygienic reasons, we recommend that you wash the inside and outside of the cooler with a damp cloth before using it (see also the section “Cleaning and care”). Do not store any unwrapped food in the cooler. Place the cooler on a firm and level surface. The lid can be locked in the open position using the handle (1) and the lock(2).
The connection cables for the desired power sources:

  • 230 V (household power socket) (3)
  • 12 V cigarette lighter in a vehicle (4)
  • 12 V connection for the Li-ion power battery (5)
are firmly connected to the cooler in the cable compartment located on the back of the lid.

Function of the cooler when operating at 230 volts:
When the cooler is operated with 230 volts, the cooling capacity can be controlled using the control dial (6) on the top of the cooler. Please note that this control dial only regulates the cooling capacity when operating at 230 volts. The 230 V control dial has no effect when operating the cooler with the 12 V cigarette lighter or 12 V battery pack. To operate the cooler with 12 volts, the 230 volt control dial (6) must be turned to the “OFF” position. If your cooler is equipped with a warming mode in addition to the cooling mode, then select the desired “Cold” or “Hot” mode using the slide switch (7). Two LEDs indicate the selected mode. When operated with 230 V, the cooler operates in the normal mode (control dial (6) in the “ECO” position, small mark on the lid points towards “ECO”) with maximum energy savings and reaches an inside temperature of approx. 17°C at an outside temperature of 25°C; this corresponds to a Delta T of approx. 8°C (Delta T = difference between the temperature inside the box and the ambient temperature). If you want to operate the cooler at a lower inside temperature or a higher outside temperature instead of in the ECO mode, then you can lower the inside temperature by turning the control dial (6). Please note that in this case you will use more energy than in normal operation. If you turn the control dial (6) to the “zzZ” position (sleep mode), the cooler cools almost silently with the lowest possible energy consumption. This mode is intended to ensure that you can operate your cooler in a caravan, mobile home, or hotel room near your bed at night without being disturbed.
If your electric cooler is also equipped with a warming mode and you have selected the warming mode (slide switch (7) is set to the “HOT” position), setting the control dial (6) to “Max” will heat the inside of the box to approx. 60°C; turning the control dial (6) to “OFF” reduces the heat output.

Function of the cooler when connected to the 12 volt cigarette lighter
To operate the cooler with 12 volts, you must first turn the 230 volt (6) control dial – which only controls the output when operating at 230 volts – to the “OFF” position or disconnect the 230 volt plug from the power socket. Only then will the operation of the 12 volt control system be activated!
If your cooler is equipped with a warming mode in addition to the cooling mode, then select the desired “COLD” or “HOT” mode using the slide switch (7) located on the cover of the box. Now press the power button (8) “12 Volt POWER ON/OFF” for about 3 seconds, after which the first blue diode lights up and indicates that the cooler is only being supplied with about 1 amp of current. If you want to supply the cooler with a higher current strength of 2, 3, or 4 amps to increase the cooling capacity (or to increase the heating capacity of the device when selector switch (7)is set to “HOT”), then tap the power button (8)again repeatedly until 2, 3, or all 4 diodes are lit. In this position, the cooler/heater will be supplied with the maximum current strength. Briefly pressing the power button (8) again reduces the current strength back to 1 amp, and you can restart the selection procedure again as described above. To switch off the electric cooler, press the power button (8) again for 3 seconds to disconnect from the 12 volt power supply.

Please note: The 12 volt control system does not have a memory function, which means if you have set the current strength to 3 amps and then disconnect the 12 volt cable or the 12 volt power battery connection, then the previous current strength setting is deleted. If you then connect the electric cooler again to the 12 volt supply, then you must press the power button (8) (POWER ON/OFF) again for 3 seconds to reset the power supply to 1 amp, after which you can then set the desired current strength as described above.
Approximate values of the cooling and heating temperatures you can expect for the various current strength settings can be found in the following table (Table A).
The table also shows the possible operating time of the Li-ion power battery for the various current strength settings.ZORN-Z26-LNE-Electric-E-AKKU-

Operation with the 12 volt Li-ion power battery
Before you connect the power battery to the electric cooler using the connection cable, please read the following instructions for installation, charging, and operating the power battery, and in particular, carefully read all corresponding safety instructions and precautions.

Fastening the Li-ion power battery to the cooler (11):

  • You will find a holder (guide rail) on the left side of the cooler.
  • Insert the power battery into the holder from above. The power battery is now securely positioned and connected to the cooler.
  • By briefly pressing the status button (9) (battery status) on the top of the battery, the LED lights (10) will indicate the current battery status for approx. 10 seconds.
  • Please note that the battery status display on the Li-ion power battery will only function correctly when the battery is not connected to the charger (12).
  • The power battery has already been charged to about 50% by the manufacturer. Even when the power batter status display shows a higher battery levelbefore the first use, we urgently recommend fully recharging the power battery first before connecting it to the electric cooler for the first time.
  • It will take about 3.5 to 4.5 hours to fully charge the power battery using the enclosed charger (12). Please take this time before operating the cooler for the first time to increase the lifespan of the power battery.
  • To charge the power battery, connect the separate 100-240 volt charger (12) to the power battery. Insert the plug (14) of the cable of the charger (12) into the socket (13) on the left side of the battery. Make sure when inserting that the flat side of the plug (14) of the charger
    (12) faces upwards and fits snugly in the identically shaped part of the socket (13) of the power battery.

The charger (12) has one LED (15) that is green or red when lit. If the charger (12) is connected to the 230 volt mains, then the LED (15) is green and indicates that the charger is ready to charge. If the power battery is then connected to the charger (12) for recharging, the LED (15) on the charger (12) is red and indicates that the charger is charging the battery; the LED (15) turns green as soon as the Li-ion power battery is fully charged to 100% – the charging process is then complete.
If you have fully recharged the battery (the charger LED switches from red to green = fully charged), then please disconnect the battery from the charger by removing the plug of the charging cable from the socket (13) on the battery.
If you now check the charge status of the Li-ion battery by pressing the status button (9), all 4 blue LEDs will be lit when fully charged.

Please note the following again: The LEDs (10) can only indicate the correct battery level if the power battery is not connected to the charger (12).

Note the following when using the Li-ion power battery:
The time it takes to recharge the battery depends on how deeply discharged the power battery was before charging. The over-discharge protection built into the power battery prevents damage to the battery, which means you can run the electric cooler as long as you want without interruption until the battery automatically stops supplying power, which then prevents over-discharging the battery.
When fully discharged, the charging process can take up to 3½ hours.
Note in this case that the time required to recharge a battery from 0% (none of the LEDS light up) to a battery level of 75% will take about 2.5 hours, and that it can take about another 2.5 hours to charge the battery from 75% to 100%. This is a special property of Li-ion batteries but there is no need to worry in this case either – the overcharge protection built into the battery prevents the battery from becoming overcharged!
Please note that depending on the cooling or heating setting selected, only 3 LEDs will be lit after using the power battery for just a short period of time, which means that the battery is not fully charged to 100% any more and that the battery level has now dropped to about 75%.
Cooling or heating is possible for up to 7.5 hours with a fully charged battery and depends on the supply current strength you have selected on the electric cooler.
Table (A) provides information on the possible current strength settings and the corresponding cooling/heating capacity. In this table you can see that when the current strength is set to maximum, the temperature in the box can be maintained at approx. 3°C for about 2 hours. Reducing the current strength to 2 amps, for example, means you can maintain the temperature in the box at 7°C for a period of 3.5 hours. By reducing the current strength to 1 amp, you can cool the items stored in the box for up to 7.5 hours at 9°C.
The operation and control of the cooling and heating capacity when operating with the Li-ion power battery is exactly the same as described when operating with the 12 V cigarette lighter in the car: in this case as well, you must first turn the 230 V control dial (6) to “OFF” before you press the 12 volt power button (8) on the lid of the box! (See also the section on the operation/function when using the 12 volt cigarette lighter)
If you now want to operate the cooler independently from a 230 V or 12 V power source using the power battery, then please connect the separate battery connection cable (5), which you will find in the cable compartment in the lid of the cooler, to the fully charged power battery (you will find the corresponding socket (13) on the left side of the power battery, it’s the same socket (13) you need to use when recharging the power battery using the charger provided). Please make sure when connecting that the flat side of the plug is facing upwards and fits snugly into the identically shaped part of the socket of the power battery.
The cooling and heating capacity when operating with the Li-ion power battery is controlled in exactly the same manner as described when operating with the 12 V cigarette lighter in the car: in this case as well, you must first turn the 230 V control dial (6) to “OFF” before you press the 12 volt “POWER ON/OFF” button (8) on the lid of the box! (See the section on the function of the 12 volt cigarette lighter)

Caution: Never charge the power battery using a different charger. The power battery and the supplied charger are designed to work exclusively with each other! Using other chargers can be dangerous and damage the function of the power battery. Never use the power battery to operate (or charge) other devices, you risk injury as well as damage to the battery and other devices!

General instructions for use and protection of the power battery:
The power battery has an advanced battery management system (BMS) that protects the power battery from overcharging or over-discharging.
The BMS (Battery Management System) is designed exclusive for use with the electric cooler and prevents overcharging or over-discharging the battery.
You can recharge the battery regardless of the current battery level, but it is not recommended to recharge the battery when the battery level is 75% or higher!
Important: The lifespan of a battery is about 3 to 5 years and also depends on the number of charging cycles. When the power battery is used properly, over 500 charging cycles are possible during this time without any problems.
However, this does not mean that the power battery will not function anymore after 3 to 5 years have passed or the stated number of charging cycles has been exceeded, but is does mean that a reduction of the nominal capacity to between 60% and 80% can be expected due to technical reasons. This aging process is common to all Li-ion batteries and is therefore not necessarily perceived negatively by the user as it is comparable to the well-known capacity of mobile phone batteries.
As a consumer, you always have a warranty of two years, but this does not cover a higher number of charging cycles (> 500). To protect the battery when stored or when in use, it is designed for a temperature range of 10°C to 40°C and for a temporary maximum humidity of 80%. To maintain the battery performance, please fully recharge the power battery every three months.

Additional safety instructions:

Do not use the device in extremely cold, hot, humid, or dusty areas. Do not expose the device to direct sunlight either. Protect the device from open fires. There is a risk of explosion!!
Protect the device from impact or falling regardless of the operating state.
This device is sensitive to electrostatic discharge, so protect the device from all possible electrostatic discharges.
Do not disassemble the device into its individual parts and do not attempt to repair it yourself. The device does not contain any parts that require maintenance and the warranty will be void in this case.
Do not insert any objects not intended for use into the openings of the product. This could cause an electrical short circuit and result in fire.
Do not operate the product with wet hands. Do not use water or chemical solutions to clean the product. Please use a dry cloth only.
The device generates heat during use – this is normal – do not cover the product during use.

Tips for the best cooling performance and energy savings

  • Choose a well ventilated location that is protected from sunlight.
  • Only place pre-cooled foods and beverages in the electric cooler.
  • Do not open the cooler any longer than necessary.
  • Do not leave the lid open for longer than necessary.
  • Make sure that the cooler is not too full and that the air can circulate adequately between the items to be cooled.
  • To achieve maximum energy savings for longer periods of use, we recommend using the normal 230 V operating mode (cooling control dial (6) set to the “ECO” position).

Replacing the 12 volt fuse in the 12 volt plug

To replace the fuse (21), first unscrew the red compensating sleeve (18) from the plug. Unscrew the screw (16) from the upper half of the housing (17) using a suitable Phillips screwdriver. Lift the upper half of the housing off the lower half (20).
Note: Hold the contact spring (19) in place while removing the fuse. Otherwise the contact spring may fly out. Carefully lift the contact pin (22) out of the housing. The fuse can now be removed.
Note: If the thin metal wire in the middle between the two metal caps is broken, then the fuse is defective and must be replaced.

Push the contact spring (19) back and gently insert the new fuse into the groove provided. Now place the rear edge of the contact pin on the metal cap on the front of the fuse. Releasing the contact spring secures the fuse and contact pin in the groove.
Screw the upper and lower halves of the housing back together and then place the red compensating sleeve (18) back on and screw it tight. The plug is now ready for operation again.

Cleaning and care

Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents for cleaning. Otherwise there is a risk of property damage.
Always disconnect the connection cable from the power socket, cigarette lighter, or power battery before cleaning. Otherwise there is a risk of electric shock.
Never clean the cooler under running water. This can cause damage to the electrical system.
Before cleaning, remove the electrical compartment lid by carefully pulling it out at a slight angle through the right rear recess (1A) of the lid hinge and to the right out of the left rear recess (1B) of the lid hinge. Remove the battery as well from the holder on the side by pulling it upwards carefully. Use a dry cloth to clean the electrical compartment lid and the power battery.
To clean the bottom section of the electrical compartment, use a damp cloth and a mild soap solution and then rinse it out with clean water.
