Product Information

The Roll Paper Holder is an accessory designed for use with a printer. It allows for easy and convenient storage and feeding of roll paper. The holder is made up of several components, including two holders, a flange, a base, guide legs, and thumbscrews for assembly. The holder is designed to securely hold the roll paper in place while ensuring smooth and accurate paper feeding.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Warning: Before mounting the roll paper holder, ensure that the power cord of the printer is unplugged to prevent the risk of fire or electric shock.
  2. Mounting Method:
  3. Align the guide of the base with the grooves on the left and right sides of the printer and set it from the top. Ensure that the tractor L/R (left/right) is moved to the respective edge positions.
  4. Attach the guide legs to the base using the supplied thumbscrews. Make sure that the legs are parallel to the mounting surface to prevent rattling. Position the L-shaped support face towards the rear of the printer.
  5. Attach the holders to the base using the supplied thumbscrews. The mounting position will vary depending on the width of the roll paper being used. Press the back of the holder against the base to attach it securely.
  6. Paper Feeding Method:
  7. Pass one end of the shaft through the roll paper, starting from the E-ring side. Insert a flange, followed by the roll paper, and then another flange. Ensure that the tip of the roll paper is at the bottom.
  8. Mount the roll paper into the holder by inserting it between the E-rings. The E-ring side should be on the left when viewed from the front of the printer.
  9. Attention: Do not place the roll paper on a table with the shaft inserted, as it may roll off. Immediately mount the roll paper into the holder to prevent any accidents. Take care not to lose the flange during this process.
  10. Additional Notes:
    • Before using the roll paper holder, print a test print pattern from the printer’s manual and ensure that the APW (Automatic Paper Width) setting is set to NO. If it is set to YES, change the setting to NO to maintain stable left margin printing.
    • Place the roll paper holder on a level and stable table to prevent any instability or accidents.
    • During assembly, be cautious of sharp edges, such as the sheet metal, knob screw tip, and shaft tips. Handle the parts carefully to avoid injury or damage.
    • Ensure that the legs are mounted in the correct direction as shown in the instructions to maintain stability.

Safety Warning

Attention

  • When using the roll paper holder, print a test print pattern from “4. CONTROL PANEL OPERATION” in the printer’s manual, and confirm that “APW” is “NO”. If the item for “APW” is “YES”, change the setting to “NO” according to “5 PRINTER SETTING CHANGES”. When printing in the “YES” setting, the left margin may become unstable.
  •  Place the roll paper holder on a level and stable table.
  • There is a risk of injury if you touch the edge of the sheet metal, the tip of the knob screw, or the tip of two shafts (For roll paper support and path route securing) when assembling roll paper holders, paper setting and use. So please be careful. Also, be careful not to drop parts during assembly. This may cause damage or injury.

  2. Attach the legs to the base. (Use two of the supplied thumbscrews)
Ensure that the legs are parallel to the mounting surface to prevent the base from rattling. Position the L-shaped support face toward the rear of the printer.

  3. Attention   If the legs are mounted in the opposite direction or if they have been forgotten to be mounted, there is a danger that roll paper holder may become unstable and may fall over.
Therefore, attach the legs in the correct direction as shown above.

  4. Attach the holder to the base. (Use two of the supplied thumbscrews)
The mounting position varies depending on the width of the roll paper to be used. The figure on the lower left shows, the case when an 8.5-inch size is mounted. Press the back of the holder against the base to attach.

  5. Pass the shaft and the flange through the roll paper. From the E-ring side of the shaft, insert the flange, the roll paper and then the flange. Attention the roll paper direction. (The tip of the roll paper is at the bottom.)

  6. Mount the roll paper into the holder.
The E-ring side is on the left when viewed from the front of the printer. Insert the holder between the E-rings.

  7. Attention If the roll paper is placed on a table with the shaft inserted, there is a risk of rolling down the roll paper. Therefore, mount the roll paper into the holder immediately. Please be careful not to lose the flange.

  8. Attention Insert the shaft through the roll paper and set it in the holder.  If the roll paper holder is then removed from the printer, the shaft may fall out of the holder, causing damage or injury. Therefore, do not remove the roll paper holder after the roll paper is set.

  9. Attention If roll paper is set to the holder so that it hits or falls, the table installation surface of the leg may be scratched by impact and vibration, so be careful not to give impact when setting roll paper.

  10. Set the shaft for securing path route. Insert the holder between the E-rings.

Paper feeding method for the roll paper

  • Feeds the roll paper. Turn on the printer.
Set the print mode to “single sheet mode”. (Depress the lever)

  • Set the print mode to “Continuous paper mode”. (Lift the lever)
A warning tone (beep) sounds but ignore it.
Then, turn the Paper feed knob to pull out the roll paper.
(When taking out the roll paper, please make the length from the cover to the tip 10~15cm.)
Insert roll paper. When paper is detected, it is automatically inhaled.

  • Stack the leading edge of the paper output side and the leading edge of the paper feed side.
Lightly pull toward the rear of the printer (roll side), removing any slack and overlapping
the ends. At the same time, there is a print start position mark on the body cover, so adjust the position using the mark as a guide.
The reference of the left edge of the roll paper is the print start position mark. If the paper width is 8.3 or 8.5 inches, it is 2 graduations (about 5 mm) to the left from the reference. For 4 inches, it is 3 graduations (about 7.5 mm) to the right from the reference.
Use this value as a guide for the paper width and print start position.
Adjust the position of the holder as necessary.
Adjust the clearance between the flange and the end face of the roll paper to 1 (+1/-0.5) mm.

    • Attention Adjust the alignment so that the deviation between the left and right sides is about ±1mm when both sides of the paper overlap.
(If the paper is deviated too much, the skew may overlap, causing interference between the tractor and the edge of the paper, causing the paper to break.)

    • Attention   If the paper width is 4 inches, make sure that the paper end-print margin is at least 9 mm on either side.
If the paper width is 8.3 or 8.5 inches, make sure that the paper end-print margin is at least 7 mm on either side.

  • When you have finished adjusting the roll paper, set the print mode to “Single Sheet Mode”.

  • Turn the Paper feed knob to return the roll paper.
The position to return is near the top of the printhead. (See figure below) Position for returning the roll paper: near the top of the printhead (I am removing the cover for explanation)
If necessary, adjust the slack of the roll paper on the paper feed side.

  • Press the “LF/FF” button to execute LF line feed operation.
Perform LF line feed operation approximately 5~10 times.
Prevents the gear backlash when the roll paper is returned (3-5).
If this operation is not performed, line feed may be blocked at the beginning of printing.

    • Attention   Please note that “long press” will cause FF page break. (Line feed about 550mm)
When performing FF page break operation, eject the roll paper once and start over from 3-1.
  • Attach the sheet guide along the groove.
This sheet guide is used as a separator to prevent printing paper from entering the printer again. Do not allow printing paper to enter the printer. (Until the Printed Paper Exceeds the Roll Paper)

    • Attention   If the sheet guide is not set, paper may be caught in the printer.

    • Attention   Do not use the inside of the paper guides.

    • Attention Adjust the position of the paper guide collinear with the paper holder. Be careful not to be outside the reference.
Also, adjust it so that it is within 10 mm of the reference inward.
This completes the preparation before printing.

  • About Left and Right Margins
If the left and right margins become small during printing, reinsert the roll paper by following the steps 3-1 to 3-7.

  • About Paper JAM Removal
If paper JAM occurs, cut the paper in the middle, remove the roll paper in the reverse order of the roll paper set, and remove the JAM paper.
