SALTER 20 Litre Manual Microwave

WARNING- READ BEFORE USE
Do not use the appliance with an extension cord.
If the door or door seals are damaged, the appliance must not be operated until it has been repaired by a competent person. It is hazardous for anyone other than a competent person to carry out any service or repair operation that involves the removal of a cover which gives protection against exposure to microwave energy. If the power supply cord, plug or any part of the appliance is malfunctioning or if it has been dropped or damaged, cease using the product immediately to avoid potential injury.
This appliance contains no user serviceable parts, only a qualified electrician should carry out repairs. Improper repairs may place the user at risk of harm.
Liquids and other foods must not be heated in sealed containers since they are liable to explode.
The heating of beverages in the appliance can result in delayed eruptive boiling, therefore extreme care must be taken when handling the container. Always allow beverages to stand for at least 20 seconds before handling. If necessary, stir during heating. Always stir after heating.

Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed.
Check that the voltage indicated on the rating plate corresponds with that of the local network before connecting the appliance to the mains power supply.
Children aged from 8 years and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge can use this appliance, only if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.

• Unless they are older than 8 and supervised, children should not perform cleaning or user maintenance.
• This appliance is not a toy – children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• When heating food in plastic or paper containers, keep an eye on the oven due to possibility of ignition.
• The appliance is intended only for heating food and beverages. Drying of food or clothing and heating of warming pads, slippers, sponges, damp cloth and similar items may lead to risk of injury, ignition or fire.
• If smoke is observed, switch off or unplug the appliance and keep the door closed in order to stifle any flames.
• The contents of feeding bottles and baby food jars should
• be stirred or shaken and the temperature checked before consumption, in order to avoid burns.
• Eggs in their shell and whole hard-boiled eggs should not be heated in the appliance since they may explode, even after microwave heating has ended.
• Keep the appliance and its power supply cord away from heat or sharp edges that could cause damage.
• Keep the power supply cord away from any parts of the appliance that may become hot during use.
• Keep the appliance away from other heat emitting appliances. Failure to maintain the oven in a clean condition could lead to deterioration of the surface that could adversely affect the life of the appliance and possibly result in a hazardous situation. Care should be taken not to displace the turntable when removing containers from the appliance.
• Do not use metallic containers for food and beverages during microwave cooking.
• Do not immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid. Do not immerse the turntable in cold water directly after use -wait at least 20 minutes to avoid the risk of cracking.
• Do not operate the appliance with wet hands.
• Do not clean the appliance with a steam cleaner or water jet.
• Do not leave the appliance unattended whilst connected to the mains power supply.
• Do not remove the appliance from the mains power supply by pulling the cord; switch it off and remove the plug by hand. Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not move the appliance whilst it is in use.
• Do not touch any sections of the appliance that may become hot or the heating components of the appliance, as this could cause injury.
• Always use the appliance on a stable, heat-resistant surface, at a height that is comfortable for the user.
• This appliance should not be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote control system, other than that supplied with this appliance.
• This appliance is intended for domestic use only. It should not be used for commercial purposes.
• A CAUTION: Hot surface – do not touch any sections or ? surfaces of the appliance that may become hot or the heating components of the appliance.
• WARNING: Keep the appliance away from flammable materials.

Product Group Definition

• This product is a Group 2 Class B appliance.
• Group 2 ISM equipment: Group 2 contains all ISM equipment in which radio-frequency energy is intentionally generated and/or used in the form of electromagnetic radiation for the treatment of material, and EDM and arc welding equipment. Class B equipment is equipment suitable for use in domestic establishments and in establishments directly connected to a low voltage power supply network which supplies buildings used for domestic purposes.

Installing the Manual 20 Litre Microwave
The appliance is intended to be use

The appliance should be installed away from sources of heat and humidity.
To ensure sufficient ventilation, the appliance should have at least l O cm of free space between its back and the wall, 5 cm of free space between its sides and the wall and 20 cm of free space above it. The appliance should be at least 85 cm above floor level on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
The appliance should be at least 5 m away from any
Ns, radios or other appliances with antennas, as picture disturbance or noise may occur.
The appliance must be positioned so that the plug is accessible.

Care and Maintenance

Switch off and unplug the microwave from the mains power supply and allow it to cool fully before attempting any cleaning or maintenance.

STEP 1: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

STEP 2: Using a soft, damp cloth, wipe the microwave door and window, door seals and control panel to remove any spill or spatter.

STEP 3: Wipe the interior surfaces, including the waveguide cover, with a soft, damp cloth to remove any built-up grease, as this may begin to smoke or catch fire.
Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning detergents or scourers to clean the microwave or its accessories, as this could cause damage.

NOTE: The microwave should be cleaned after each use.

CAUTION: The microwave should be cleaned regularly and any food deposits removed.

WARNING: Do not remove the waveguide cover.
Failure to maintain the microwave in a clean condition could lead to deterioration of the surface that could adversely affect the life of the microwave and possibly result in a hazardous situation.

Instructions for Use

Before First Use
Clean the microwave following the instructions in the section entitled
‘Care and Maintenance’.
Place the microwave onto a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface at a height that is comfortable for the user.

STEP 1: Place the roller ring in the centre of the microwave and place the turntable on top. Ensure that it is engaged in the rotating coupler and the turntable moves freely.

NOTE: When using the microwave for the first time, a slight smoke or odour may be emitted. This is normal and will soon subside. Allow for sufficient ventilation around the microwave. It is advised to heat a small cup of water in the microwave before first use as this will help to remove residue from manufacturing inside the cavity and will prevent the initial smoke or odour from affecting the taste of the food.

ALWAYS ALLOW BEVERAGES/ LIQUIDS TO STAND FOR AT LEAST 20 SECONDS BEFORE HANDLING TO AVOID ERUPTIVE BOILING.

Using the Manual 20 Litre Microwave

STEP 1: Plug in and switch on the microwave at the mains power supply.

STEP 2: Place the food to be microwaved onto the glass turntable and close the door. Make sure to use microwave-safe plates or containers.

STEP 3: Select the desired power level using the power dial on the control panel.

STEP 4: Turn the timer control dial to the desired cooking time, If the desired time is less than two minutes, turn the timer control dial past three minutes and then back to the desired cooking time.

STEP 5: Cooking will automatically begin once the time is set. To pause cooking, open the door. To resume cooking, close the door.

STEP 6: When the cooking time has elapsed, the microwave will beep and the light inside will automatically turn off.

NOTE: If food is removed before the cooking time has elapsed, ensure the timer control dial is set to ‘O’ to avoid the microwave operating whilst it is empty.

CAUTION: It is recommended to wear heat-resistant oven gloves when removing cooked foods from the microwave. Avoid touching the heating element on the roof of the cooking cavity.

Defrost Recommendations

NOTE: Turn food halfway through defrosting for better results.

Cooking tips
The following factors may affect cooking results:
Food arrangement
Place thicker pieces of food towards the outside of the dish and thinner pieces towards the centre. Spread evenly and avoid overlap where possible.

Cooking time
Cook food for a short time, evaluate once cooking has finished and cook for longer if required. Overcooking may result in smoking and burning.

Cooking food evenly
Food such as chicken, burgers and steak should be turned once during cooking. Food such as soup will need stirring during cooking, starting from the outside of the dish.

Allow standing time
After cooking has finished, leave the food in the microwave to complete its cooking cycle and cool gradually.

Checking food is cooked through.
The colour and texture of food can help to determine if it is cooked. This can include steam coming from all areas of the food, joints of poultry moving easily, no blood when cooking meat and fish being opaque and easily flaked with a fork.

Browning dish
When using a browning dish or self-heating container, always place a heat- resistant insulator, such as a porcelain plate, under it to prevent damage to the turntable and rotating ring.

Microwave-safe plastic wrap
When cooking food with a high fat content, do not allow the plastic wrap to come into contact with food, as it may melt.

Microwave-safe plastic cookware
Some microwave-safe plastic cookware might not be suitable for cooking food with a high fat and sugar content. The preheating time specified in the microwave-safe cookware instruction manual must not be exceeded.

Storage
Check that the microwave is cool, clean and dry before storing in a cool, dry place. Never wrap the cord tightly around the microwave wrap; it loosely to avoid causing damage.

1. The high voltage capacitor remains charged after disconnection; short the negative terminal of the H.V capacitor to the oven chassis using a screwdriver to discharge before touching.
2. During servicing, the below listed parts are liable to be removed and give access to potentials above 250 V to earth.

   • High voltage fuse
3. The following conditions may cause undue microwave exposure during servicing:
   • Improper fitting of magnetron
   • Improper matching of door interlock, door hinge and door
   • Improper fitting of switch support
   • The door, door seal or enclosure has been damaged

Connection To The Mains
Please check that the voltage indicated on the product corresponds with your supply voltage.

Important
As the colours in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, please proceed as follows:

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

• Blue Neutral (N)
• Brown Live (L)
• Green/Yellow Earth( )
• FOR UK USE ONLY – Plug fitting details (where applicable).

The wire coloured BLUE is the NEUTRAL and must be connected to the terminal marked N or coloured BLACK.
The wire coloured BROWN is the LIVE wire and must be connected to the terminal marked Lor coloured RED.
The wire coloured GREj!-J/YELLOW must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter E or marked .
On no account USt either the BROWN or the BLUE wire be connected to the EARTH terminal( ).
Always ensure that the cord grip is fastened correctly.
The plug must be fitted with a fuse of the same rating already fitted and conforming to BS 1362 and be ASTA approved.
If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician who will be pleased to do this for you.

Non-Rewireable Mains Plug
If your appliance is supplied with a non-rewireable plug fitted to the mains lead and should the fuse need replacing, you must use an ASTA approved one (conforming to BS 1362 of the same rating).
If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician who will be pleased to do this for you.
If you need to remove the plug, DISCONNECT IT FROM THE MAINS, then cut it off the mains lead and immediately dispose of it safely. Never attempt to reuse the plug or insert it into a socket outlet as there is a danger of an electric shock.
